I am an Australian born Tongan and I have never heard or encountered Tongan's eating whales??? Despite what that Tongan man has said, "we either study or eat them?"...this is NOT the case. And as far as the Japanese corporation are trying to buy out little businesses in Tonga - that is nothing new.
