I love how they use the stingers as a ruse. it sets up a car chase with the BMW perfectly and then instead we get the awesome tank chase, made so much better by the fact that unlike other Bond movie car chases we don't see it coming thanks to the ruse.
The point of not killing Bond too is that someone has to escape to confirm 006's death. He goes back to England, bitter that Alec has died, and no-ones knows that Alec was able to escape and head up Janus. If both of them die, MI6 lists them as MIAs, which means either of them could be alive.
Goldeneye is my fourth favorite Bond film overall and the first one I actually saw in the theaters after watching Bond movies on TV for years as a kid. The film is great on really every level as you already described. The six year absence of Bond was well worth the wait as the production values increased dramatically and as you said the franchise found itself again. I also love Pierce Brosnan as James Bond and unlike Timothy Dalton who I grew to like overtime I like Pierce Brosnan right away.
Anybody ever noticed how bad the shots of the goldeneye satellite and earth look? I suspect they reused stock footage of Moonraker (earth looks similar).
Wow, its nice to actually see someone who STILL loves Brosnan as Bond. GE has always been my personal favourite Bond film and PB has always been my favourite 007.
Calvin, I completely agree that Brosnan combined the best elements of Connery and Moore--Connery's rugged athleticism and Moore's humor and sophistication. I'm also glad to see all the positive comments on TWINE--never understood all the negative reviews for that one. I enjoyed it just as much as GE, and the Elektra King character was just awesome.
@calvindyson i'd like to see what you have to say about The World Is Not Enough because i think thats one of the greats and it gets really bad reviews among the fans.
As a youth I enjoyed Remmington Steele and I had hoped Brosnan to bring some of that brand of comedy to the role but it was virtually never seen. I can't blame them too much as here they have a Bond that looks the part full measure, first since Connery (cruel good looks etc.). While I don't think they used Brosnan to full effect I do believe him as the character Bond. Moore was my fave too and that comedic aspect is why- wish Brosnan would have embraced that moore. =p
@rhydermike You like The World is Not Enough? It's not often I meet people who are fans of that one, seems to have a bit of a bad reputation amongst the fans but I think it's pretty great!
Oh I absolutely adore this Jame Bond film. It was the very first Jame Bond I watched and loved it instantly. Brosnan does a great job as Bond for his first film as Bond. I loved the score because it fits the whole atomosphere of the post-Soviet era. Also, loved the villians: Alec Trelvayn and Xenia Onatopp.
Haha, you look a bit like jimmy carr :P

Brosnan desperately needed a haircut in this film. I miss Dalton already. :(

One other thing--love Judi Dench as M. I'm really glad she stayed on for the Daniel Craig films.

Not a fan of this one. But then, like everything politically correct, I'm surprised that you're a fan of Bond anyway.
As for the look, it has a kind of drab realism to. Connery era was often about delivering a spectacle to the screen.
I like the next two Brosnan ones.

@calvindyson You didn't point out one obvious nit pick, why are a bunch of Russians speaking English to one-another? :)
