  • dang that was like on empty ass flight

  • Ahhh, The times when airlines could afford to fly planes half empty with passengers, Great video!

  • Ain't nothing like sitting in the back of a 727 on a max performance takeoff....like being on a rocket! Looking "up" the cabin as you climb out....and the sound of those JT-8D's.......almost better than sex!

  • this is a great video. like a time machine

  • todays planes are like sex with a rubber on, the 727 is going bareback!

  • @powervr250 That is the single best analogy I have ever read on an aircraft. CONCUR!!!!!!!!

  • rare sight to see empty seats in a plane especially now days

  • i remember flying a air canada 727 back in 1991 from tronto to san francisco and it was suposed to be a 767 and i also remeberd the flight attendant apolgizing for the size of the air craft . you no their was no movie but i still enjoyed the flight even if it was almost 5 and half houers.

  • the 727-200 was my favourite plane..

  • Love that classic 727 sound! I miss the 727.

  • I bet airfare was $50 back then including fees and taxes.

  • @indyfan22k airfare has actually dropped since then. Flying has gotten cheaper and it has made flights miserable. Less service, more people.

  • @jimmyp42002

Are you sure ? My Father found a ticket hidden away for may years. It was from 1997. Atlanta to Newark $79 including taxes.

the TSA and Baggage Fees and rude Flight Attendants have made flying a pain in the ass, just my opinion.

  • @indyfan22k cheap tickets existed but flying was MUCH more expensive back in the day. The airlines catered to the business traveler with the money, not vacationers. I can remember when KSAN-KMIA was almost $900 round trip. that same flight with the same airline today is around $350-400

  • @indyfan22k It's not just your opinion.

People have universally become selfish and rude anymore vs. the old days.

Then there's the fact that everything has become so mindless and boring these days. Quiet and smooth, quiet and smooth, quiet and smooth. Some of us enjoy the sound of engines - both in our cars and airplanes. Unfortunately most mindless idiots would rather have silence so they can enjoy their shitty mainstream pop and talk on their cell phones and blah blah blah in peace.

  • @lt1caprice57l Oh yeah..

  • @lt1caprice57l I agree with you....love the md80s American has, the sound of the Jt8d's in flight..i even bought my car because i like the sound of a v8 on the road...all those mindless morons on the i phones etc..ugh

  • It's hard to believe these mainline aircraft are now relegated to the history books! What a nice look back at the 72 and the ATL hub. Thank you !

  • 727's are great planes but they're pretty tough to fly. I had to learn these aircraft by heart even though I would not be flying them commercially. Great video!

  • Love the Eastern Tails

  • Good Old days, I'd kill to beable to have that much room now a days.

  • I miss the widget and I miss the 727, Delta should do a retro jet 738 in the widget colors, in fact it doesn't even matter what aircraft just a retro jet, and a retro jet honoring NWA. Great vid.

  • Yep. JT X3. A song not heard much anymore.

  • Reminds me of being a kid again!!!!

  • the service of Delta was fine?

  • "we'd like to point out some of the safety features - not all of them, we're saving the good ones for first class!"

  • Those were the days!

  • @bartdude95 Probably because it was an early morning flight and not that many people tend to want to go on flights that leave so early, Or maybe passenger traffic was low during that weekend, Those are my assumptions.

  • @ford9572 Well back then, people didnt really fly that much.

  • why empty plane

  • You should've filmed more out your window! Always like to see the runway and the lights flashing by as the plane gathers speed. Oh well. Nice vid anyway. Love the engine sound.

  • I miss the sound of JT-8D's at full blast!

  • wow..look room between seats. Also, I know airplane food sucks but I miss the nice meals during the flight.

  • I didn't see anything wrong with the camera work but I liked the audio so much that I muted it.!

  • The entertainment music on that plane at the gate, was that a track tape that they play back in those days, or satellite broadcast?

  • you were so lucky... My father has been on several 727s, and he said they are amazing.

  • Wow. That was an incredible takeoff! Great engine growl! Miss the 727... Never got to climb aboard one... : (

  • What a great old plane. I miss those guys.

  • how come there was little passengers onboard?

  • Man, I miss the sound of those engines! Actually your camera work is great. It gives a good sense of being on the plane and takes me back. Love the shot across the cabin through the windows at 2:18 as the plane is taking off.!

  • Wow lots of empty seats.... Can't believe I've flown with such a classy jet...

  • love this video. thanks for uploading it. What equipment do u use to upload VHS movies ?

  • A Classic!!

  • I miss the sound of those Pratt & Whitney JT8D's working hard on takeoff. I remember my last DL 727 flight was the last evening flight from ATL-GSO back in 2001.

  • Did you get a meal on that flight?

  • @morgand25 I don't think so. They had a beverage service and I think that was all.

  • Nice video!

  • I WANT a job like yours' SD!!!!! How bad I miss that three holer. I've managed to obtain three or four of those old Aurora B-727 model kits. Never started. I plan to build them WAY better than I did when I was 10. Airbrushing, LED lighting and all.

  • Great audio!!! Brings back some good memories!

  • fantastic.....

  • I always loved those tiered, sculpted window panels on the 727-200 Advanced, each one with its own individual small fluorescent tube light and yellow-greenish light cover.

Only when they were in the sunset of their career did I come to appreciate this plane's spaciousness, ride quality, and "size for its size" as a passenger.

  • I have enjoyed your videos. One can only appreciate the audio unless you have flown on the 727 and also a DC9. It is hard to describe, but great memories of a by gone era.

  • why is there no one on the plane??

  • @djedenhnjfndsj

The light load might have had something to do with the economy at the time. In the Autumn of 1990 the economy wasn't doing very well. Saddam had invaded Kuwait and gasoline had soared to like $1.45 gallon!

Three months after this I was on an AA Super 80 flight from STL to DFW with 20 passengers.

  • @airlineamtrakfan When this video was taken, the early 1990s recession was underway as it began in July 1990. It was a mild recession and ended in March 1991 where a 10 year economic expansion began. No one knew in the early 1990s it would be a 10 year expansion. Around this time, George HW Bush was trying to look at options on what to do with Iraq.

  • Thanks you soo much!!!!

  • here in bolivia still flying the boeing 727 (aerosur airlines) boeing 727 rules!!!!

  • I miss the 1990's.

  • there was no one on that 727 lol u were by ur self in the back

  • did you also go the atlanta olympic games?

  • No, I was going to an aviation seminar at a hotel near the Atlanta airport.

  • did you go to the atlanta olympic games in 1996?

  • @fatty24 that was in 1996.

  • Loved the video! I've been posting some older airline trip videos converted from VHS, too. Flying on these Delta 727's in the 1980's was what sparked my fascination with aviation!

  • Loved the video. It brought back many memories of flying on the 727. The only time I can hear those engines now, really, is to leave the country.

  • Nice! Thanks for the memories...I miss that thing lol.

BTW..o that is not an old WA bird, it is a 232,225A or 232A (the aft galley is on aircraft left, not right like the 247A)

  • Great video. It brings back wonderful memories with my favorite airline. Thanks for posting

  • who the hell flies from Charlotte to Atlanta?

  • Great video, I like the 727 and the classic airliners. Go Delta Airlines!

  • Atlanta is my fav. airport. Delta forever!!!

  • great videos! you have given me new ideas on shooting my next plane video!

  • Nice job! Glad to see some of the older recordings posted on YT. I wonder if that was an old Western 727-247A.

  • Wonderful movie! I fly with Delta B727 in 1999 from CVG to SFO. It was the last time I fly with B727.

  • Excellent... you post some of the best aviation vids:)

  • Thanks very much for the compliment. Stay tuned, there are more videos in the "pipeline". Also, due to demand, I plan to make the video collection available on DVD for anyone that wants it.

  • this was 3 days before atlanta was chosen for the olympic games. did you celebrate on september 18, 1990?

  • @fatty24 this video was the day before I was born

  • Good job, the unique camera shots across plane made this video even more interesting.

  • @ntxguy

There was no one in the back of the plane with me so I felt comfortable pointing the camera across the aisle, etc.

  • quite original in filming towards the opposite window: I like it.

  • this was a dawn flight right

  • @chairliftsrcool

Yes, it was Delta's first flight of the day from CLT to ATL.

I was headed to an airliner memorabilia show near the Atlanta airport and wanted to be there when it started !

  • Another good 1!
