  • hey !!! junket was not that bad... but we didn't have a pink version...yuch !!! lol !!!

    take care !!!

  • I never heard of those custards... Maybe that's a good thing... Great answers, Nancy!

  • I've never ever had Ex-Lax. I hear too many horror stories about it and I won't try it. Never heard of black balls. Were they a kind of jaw breaker? I think I'v ehad something similar, but it wasn't black.

  • @TheBlueFlamingo

Yes they were a kind of jaw breaker that started out black and had several layers of different colors...not very sweet or tasty and in the middle was a tiny seed of some sort. But hey, at 3 for a penny.....LOL

  • Hey Nancy...Lol..I think we all had an incident with the Ex-lax!

    That blackball thing sounds Yucky!

    HugZ sugar!

  • @kismet0717

Yes my sister seems to think the black balls were dipped in India ink. LOL

  • Xlax...ack ack!

  • @jantheempress

I know....I can't even eat dark chocolate...though thoughts of IT come back to me!!

    Hugs

  • I like ALL grapes but don't like wine at all!! LOL That ex-lax got a lot of us when we were little I think... It tasted so good! LOL I liked Sugar pops when little but no more.. like you said too sugary! I liked how the Junket was slippery and slid right down.. LOL

  • @mysteryglo

I'm so glad you like your Junket Judy...

"Junket was slippery and slid right down.." Yes..yes it did and that was the texture I didn't like!

Gee, can you still buy the stuff?

  • The Vermont Country Store has Junket! You can find them online.

  • I hope you know; we WILL find out if you did that terrible thing to your sister. lol

    Hugs, Christina

  • @meldenphire

LOL...strange I can't recall....but I get this really strange guilty feeling when we talk about it. ;-)

Ah I still love her though.

    Hugs

  • Nancy I believe I remember that black ball. You're right it was so hard you could not bite it into. And then at the end there was a little seed of candy of some sort! Good to see you! Hugs

  • @imperceptibleme

Hi Melissa....yes that sounds like a black ball...I don't know why I bought them as a kid other than I could cash in pop bottles to get them and they were cheap. I would love to know what the outside black stuff was made from as it wasn't really sweet and had a metallic taste to it.

I don't like vlogging but thought I would answer my sister's Show & Tell.

    Hugs

  • I never liked grapes, but I loved grape juice. What's up with that?

  • @VirtuallyAddicted

    Strange eh?

I don't like red or purple grapes...but I drink red wine.

    Go figure.

    Thanks and hugs.

  • It is so amazing how tastes stay with you through adulthood. I can't think of anything offhand (or else I would have made a response to Chris' video) that has carried into my adulthood that I hated as a child. There must be something...heheh

  • @PaintedRavensong

If you think about it long enough I'm sure you can think of a few things Mic.

    Hugs to ya! :-)

  • I remember what you call black balls but we called them aniseed balls and i hated the taste of the seed in the middle...it tasted like perfume.

I don't know if you've heard of blancmonge, but i think it's what you call Junket.... it was made with milk, was always pink and as it set it had this thick skin on the top UUGGHH!

  • @twish1999

Gee, that sounds just like Junket Trish!!

One thing I really love... English Trifle!!! :-)

  • werent they called gobbstoppers ?

  • koo koo for cocopuffs?

  • @PappyStu

    Yes you are Pappy!! LOL

  • Everybody loved them they were big and covered in some kind of artificial cheap chocolate and a mix of marshmallow and biscuit inside they were made by Burtons and they called them wagonwheels, I hated them they all tasted mouldy, what an earth were they made of? sweaty arm pits comes to mind!!! and they are still selling them today, I can not imagine anyone crossing a road to buy one, but they do, school tuck shops sell them succesfully, (in their favor very filling )xxx David.

  • @beachfrontal

Yes we still have wagon wheels...can't say I have ever eaten one though...there's just something about the insides......yuck!

    Hugs to you David.

  • dont even try they are horrid, I like sweet things anything sweet I will eat it, but wagonwheels , I do not even like the look of them , they look like wagon wheels, why do I hate wagon wheels, too much viewing WAGON TRAIN when I was a kid I guess!!, do you remember Clint Eastwod in that cowboy TV series before he became really famous.

  • @beachfrontal

I sure do remember Wagon Train...

I still won't eat Wagon Wheels!! LOL

  • MOM, remember those black diamond squares ????

Paul brought them home one day. They were very rich tasting ? He called them "Aux blood" ???

  • @patchcords

Yes...I recall Chris...and they were Ox Blood...good for you...I think they were German made.

    WHY??? :-O

  • I want to buy some :-) Yummy !!

  • Nancy, I trade you apples for chockolate, is that a deal?☺

  • @EmCSpiteri1

    You don't like apples?

Sure I'll take the apples and you can have my dark chocolate. :-)

    Hugs

  • I remember blackballs. On my walks into town, hunting for coke bottles to cash in for blackballs. (I think we got 2 cents for coke bottles)

  • @AnneMarie96

Yup...two cents for a coke bottle would get you 6 black balls...but did they not have a strange taste to you...? Almost like black paint!!! :-O

  • My mum used to take that stuff regulary, she warned me not too try it! I hate Sugar Puffs too!:)

  • @ajdpadbury

Good thing you didn't try it...

I don't know why they need to sugar coat the cereals!! Too funny!

  • Real dark chocolate has the opposite effect of Exlax chocolate. I like one but not the other. I'm not telling which.

  • @robertpina99

LOL...I think I can guess which one you prefer Robert. :-D

You don't have to tell me.

    Hugs

  • I don't remember any of those candies and from what you say, I'm glad I don't. lol

  • The black balls? No Marc...you're not old enough.

And how come I don't like red grapes yet I drink Merlot?

  • We had sweets called Gobstoppers which were huge and pretty awful to taste. thing was, it took at least 45 minutes to eat them. Yuk.

  • Tam, why would you even try something called "Gobstoppers"? LOL

  • Tam we still have them here!! I've never tried one and don't intend to...something about the name just turns me off....and I wonder how many little kids have choked on one!! :-O

  • These sound like what we called "jawbreakers."

  • @erra404

I think they are about the same thing...

huge round hard balls of candy...Gobstoppers...

and Jawbreakers. What kid would want to eat things with such strange names!!? :-D

  • for a very long time i thought Exlax was candy. i think i ate it once as a kid. it didn't taste too great.

    michael

  • Oh Michael! That's what my sister did...some things we learn the hard way. LOL

    Hugs

  • I can't eat canned carrots. EW....

    Luvs,

    Mooz

  • OH!!! Moomay...I know what you mean!!!

There is no flavor and they're like mush!!!

    I gag thinking about them

    Hugs to you sweet lady.

  • I remember black balls..we got them and other candy for pennies...we'd collect pop bottles and cash them in for penny candy..

  • @spellermouse

    Oh speller you're home!!

Yup we collected pop bottles too...small bottles worth two cents. Could get ya a boodle bag or 6 black balls. LOL.

    Hugs

  • Balls! lol. I think the black balls were dipped in India Ink ..that's the metallic taste. Thrills gum!! ha ha haa! Tasted like soap and still does. You probably did tell me to "go have a piece of that chocolate in the drawer". :-( Poor Dad....trying to shave with me on the "throne" beside him....pppfffffttttt!! Love you!!!

  • @bugsinrug

LOL...why do I feel some kind of guilt every time we talk about that...?? Did you know I had some of DoDo's Feenamint ....like chicklets and now I can't chew peppermint chicklets? Bet you didn't know I did the same as you....and paid for it!!!

    Love you!!

  • Aha hahaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!

  • I still cant eat jelly and ice cream together i like them apart, i hate egg custard yuck they have it in tarts over here. I never liked orange creams so i could let Chris have them and i can have the coffee creams. Great to see you nancy.x.x

  • @realnutty01

I know...I don't vlog..it's just hard for me...so I do the scenic vids and let my sister do the talking. LOL

Jelly and ice cream? Somehow that doesn't seem right to me either.

    Big hugs

    xoxoxo

  • omg....we where just talking about black balls...i hated them but they where cheep and i remember them tasting like metal..

  • @paultinsel

LOL..yup...3 or a penny...what on earth were they made of??

Gee, I guess as kids we would try anything that sold as candy...

    I can't believe you remember them!!! :-)

Hugs to you and hello to Tinsel!!

  • Oh the things we remember from our youth!

Junket was OK by me... it was desert! Black Balls... oh yeh... ever look at your tongue after, and the final touch was crunching into that seed... it was a peppercorn I think... bitter!

We got all kinds of various 'treats' in the grab bags... I think they were a collection of penny candy that didn't sell well... but we got it anyway!

Good post and subject... any subject that can get us to think back that many years has merit!

  • @johnnyould

Thanks Wiz...we called them boodle bags...cost two cents and you got junk candy in them...usually the black balls were in there too! But they had a metal taste to them that I really didn't like.

Oh I can't think back any further tonight...you'll have me remembering getting a chunk of ice wrapped in waxed paper, from the iceman, in the summer and thinking who great it was!.

  • Yea!!!! You got the video to upload!!! :-)

  • @tommy30507

Finally!!! I took it down once and re-uploaded it again!! :-D

  • There was a girl in Jr. High who was alway's taking my Chicklets gum (Little square gum) One day...I replaced the 2 pieces of Chicklet's with 2 Fedamint Laxative Gum's. :o) LOL She took my pack of gum But...She never showed up the next day. When she came back 2 school I asked her if she was still full of shit? HAHA!

    Hugs, Irene

  • @IreneK43

Irene!!! You are so bad! LOL. That reminds me my Aunt always had Feenamint laxative chicklets around and I got into them one time. To this day I cannot chew peppermint chicklets!! :-)

  • Nancy I have a question for you ...how do you do your hair?Hot rollers maybe?Let me know I want to try and do m hair like yours to see how it comes out...Hope you and your family are healthy these days..

  • @Julsinmaine101

Hi Juls...No rollers...it's naturally curly....I wash it and spray it with a defrizzer and either air dry it or use a blow dryer with a diffuser attachment..

    Hugs to you!!
