I know the name sounds funny, but Bearded Dude McGee was my world in the late 80's. When he sported that beard (similar to Bertie) he was drop dead gorgeous. Really he was a bearded adonis on the high seas.

We spent a great deal of time down in the Keys, living, loving and laughing. Dude had the complete discography of Bertie to that point, and we played his touching music over and over. The romantic nautical themes were so fitting.

Brings back such great memories of the 80's with Bearded McGee, and our romantic days and nights out on the boat sailing the crystal blue waters of the Keys. I can't believe it's been over 20 years, it only seems like days ago, that I was wrapped in his loving arms, losing all track of time as we listened to the sounds of Bertie coming from the Sparkomatic. This song takes me back, and conjures up so much nostalgia...McGee wherever you are...I will always love you.

Before Donna (Hurricane 1960)

Met Bertie in Islamorada New Years Day 1985 (?) Drove a Hatteras (The Floating 'flaming' Benz) from Galeston to Miami. New Years Eve at The Columbian Club in Sarasota listening to Tommy Smothers at a table until 4am, was a little swole by Islamorada, listened top the band and went up to the singer and said "You sound just like Berttie Higgins" "I am Berttie Higgins" Brilliant!

I for one enjoy both versions of this song. The original is cool for reflecting on the past, but the up-tempo updated version helps to keep the classic song alive.

If you really don't like this, play the other one on the list because it is the original.

"Key Largo" is a great and fanatically loved song - that people get married to (I played keys - left hand bass and all the keyboard and orchestral parts - during a live radio show where the couple got married - I played the intro lick by accident during their vows)!!
