You know one day,while in class in 8th grade I need to go to the restroom and catch a drink of water on the way back, So I did. On returning Mr. Simitsu, my teacher, asked me what I left for and I told him. He said "why didn't you raise your hand and ask me" . I told him knew that I wanted a drink and needed to pee and didn't need verification. I've been an incorrigible ever since. ( It made me feel free and independant even as I was being given detention in the vice principals office.) =)

J hope you learned the word 'hyperbole' somewhere... school or not. In fact, the school is not "exactly" like a prison; anyone with a modicum of intelligence recognizes this statement as over the top, and could provide examples of differences. As well, the school of today is not the school of 10 years ago; children and parents dominate the system, and less capable kids are the result. Is it a hegemonic system? Yes, but not in this tired old rant's notion. It's now simply bottom up chaos.

That's why i hated school, it was exactly like prison. i tell my kids that school is slave training and if it wasn't the law, they would not have to go. it is exactly like prison. it might be worthwhile if they taught things one might actually need to know someday, but it is a bunch of useless garbage that isn't worth wasting a braincell on. when my kids talk about college i tell them it is a waste of money, and they can learn more on the job or online.
