the ONLY thing that would make this better is Tubas chimes some Tympani and a suspend cymbal (im a percussionist) but the french horn part of the song is my favorite AND sence this is Frenchhorn band...i guess this is amazing AND the best of this song i have seen on youtube
omgee im in a middle school band and we are playing this song and i also play the french horn so this is really heart felt and inspirational for me i gotta try and practice much harder if i want to get a sound as beautiful as that...LOVE IT...!<3
@ilovecandy135 quality vs quantity on the number of notes. Lets see a middle school band / even a high school band produce the same tone quality as these guys.
Love this video. I can't get enough of it. I miss playing the French Horn when I hear a performance like this, of course I'm not/was not anywhere near the caliber of talent this group performed with. Still, love this video. Thank-you for whoever recorded and posted.
This is an amazing choral work, and I was lucky enough to get to sing it with a very musical choir. I love how well the horns are able to emulate the voice and choral sound in this recording - it is played very musically, and sounds like the players and conductor really knew what they were doing with the music. It moved, it had life. Excellent job to all these performers!
@Joey10Thompson10 This is one of the most amazing, yet simple phrases I've ever heard anyone say. This is so true, do you mind if I use this with my ensembles?
@ilovecandy135 The difficulty in this song is not the notes but protraying the feelings of the composer and produce a rich and beautiful sound. Just because you play the notes does not mean you are playing music. Real music takes alot more than just playing right notes.
I am a horn player---this is PHENOMINAL! What a rich , full sound. The lower horns sound just like they should---bass trombones! The tempo, dynamics, and phrasing are impeccable. A beautiful performance. I cried.
This is amazing! We are playing this song for concert season in the Jemison Hig School Symphonic Band and we heard this song in the choir version and the one by the Angelo State University. and this one is almost equal to the choir one on youtube from the album...The only error is the early horn at 2:56, but I love the stong breath at 2:36 and the strength behind the sound right there. The richness and texture of it is so high that I could almost feel the music with my hands! Well done!..
Thank you so much for posting this. As a horn player, I'm 1) Impressed that 36 horns can play in tune better than I can with a piano, and 2) completely moved by how well and emotionally the piece was played.
Absolutely beautiful, I remember playing this at Hampton University. Its a beautiful chorale and what makes it more unique is that its a French Horn choir perfoming it. The French horn has always been my favorite brass instrument because of its smooth and pretty sound it produces. It has such a sound of royalty VS what we hear so much from the trumpet. Its the least popular instrument from my band students but when they hear the few students play it, they fall in love with it. Anyway, love this!
I play tuba, but I've always loved the sound of a french horn...best thing in the world, and this is just magnificent (my band is playing this this year)
OH my goodness I have chills! And I have never seen soo many french horns in one place playing at one time! I love it! It shows the range and beauty which the french horn has to offer. It is by far the most beautiful sounding instrument..but I am a little biased considering I do play the french horn myself. :)
Very nicely done. Everything was very tasteful. the conductor took his time and made it musical. This is a french horn sounds like...lol no but serious this was amazing. I could not come up enough adjectives to describe how awesome of a performance this was. My life was truly enriched by hearing this. Balance Blend Consistency of sound moving precisely together dynamics control musicality intonation interpretation and so on... Thanks for putting such quality music online.
from 2:37 to about 3:07 i swear i hear trumpets in there too, but I don't see any on the stage! Is this just an amazing phenomenon of the french horns' amazing sound? Cause i could swear i hear at least 1 trumpet in there!
Wow! I knew I was in for a treat when I first viewed this video because from the very start there was no coughing or shaking of the camera. And the bright pastel outfits - OMG. Where do I start? This performance is FAR superior to the other instrumental SIC here on YouTube. The tone is rich and lush. The intonation right on. The tempo moves but is never rushed. The balance between the parts is flawless. Dynamics are emotional. Thank you so much for posting this. I will listen over and over again
I must agree on every level possible. It saddens me that there aren't other pieces of instrumentation to go along with the great sound qualities, but it's still the best instrumental recording of this song on youtube. :)

Gorgeous, simply gorgeous. I actually got a bit choked up listening to it. THIS is what Pavel Chesnokov heard in his head while composing this piece.
