  • I always say that...I think Mookie would have been safe regardless. It's hard to tell from the only view they give, but Mookie was bookin down that line and I couldn't see Shiraldi covering in that shot.

  • 3:16 "Even if I made the last out, I didn't want it to be a strikeout".....I really wish Beltran had seen this part of the interview.

  • not to burst your bubble but it was bob stanley who pitched to mookie not calvin schrldi they took him out after ray knight had a single which scored gary carter.

  • Oh, Mookie, it wasn't "just a simple ground ball" and the interviewer's characterization is not a "silver lining on a cloud".

The wild pitch and the missed grounder were memorable, for sure. But so were the foul balls after foul balls that you hit -- tough pitches all -- with 2 strikes!

I mean, there must have been 15 pitches in that at-bat. Most of them foul balls of tough Calvin Shiraldi pitches.

Just keeping the at-bat alive long enough to get the wild pitch was astounding.

  • And by "Calvin Shiraldi" I meant "Bob Stanley". :-)

  • great guy I'd vote him for President
