I'm of the view (ha ha) eyeballs not a place where lasers and knives belong. Contacts can get annoying, I'll give you that, but glasses have always been fun for me. I always have fun every couple years getting my prescription updated and choosing a new pair! But yeah, morning blindness is definitely annoying, especially when your classes fall off the nightstand or you have no idea where you left them XD
The health hazards are being downplayed. At least 1/3 of lasik-patients suffer from dry eyes and 1/5 reduced night vision. Numerous other complications, much more than than the industry is willing to admit. NO NO NO, DON't DO IT.
I say don't do it. You only have 2 eyes, and even if there's only a very small chance that it goes wrong - if it does, it's *your* eyes. Google "lasik disasters". Remember, glasses are a fashion item, enjoy them :-)
I say go for it. If you go to a company/doctor who is recognized then it shouldnt be such a risk. In Estoni where I live the surgery is world-class and when youre done you have to wear smkind of special classes bt in a month you can get rid of em and you dont have to use lenses
I got my lasik done about 10 years ago, and I haven't had any problems. My vision is 20/20 and no side effects... once in a long while, my eyes get a little dry, so I need eye drops.
My friend also got it done about 8 years ago with no problems, and no drying in the eyes.
BUT... my friend's wife got it done about 6 years ago. Her are get dry a lot, and at night, her vision isn't all that great, with some haloing.
Im not bragging at all but i have always had perfect vision al of my life so i am not going to try and say i know how you feel. however i know that i take my eyes for granted and if i were in your position i would take advantage of all the options. you have exhausted glasses and contacts now surgery would be the next step. are you scared of it hurting or something worse? if your worried that it is going to hurt maybe a little pain to make your life a bit better might be worth it.
I'm thinking of getting it done too. By looking at all the videos on youtube, it's definately successful. If you do it, are you going to do a log of the event? Go for it
I got my eyes done last year, best thing I ever did. You also don't need your eyes cutting with blades these days, research "Intralase" its all done with lights. Totally pain free and heals much quicker.
ok, for me I've had glasses all my life, and for me, I love them. They are totally annoying and get in the way when kissing, weather change, and knocking into things. I've looked into lasik, but I just feel like glasses make my face look better. It gives me a more characteristic look, a smart/cute appeal. In my opinion, you look great with and without your glasses. totally cute with, but go for it if you want it.
ps...you have the most perfectly wheet beautiful teeth ever!
Make sure to get a good referral. Don't go somewhere that's inexpensive. Know exactly what you are getting. Not all LASIK procedures are performed the same way. Some use newer technology (better lasers, computer mapping, etc.). Some don't use a blade to cut a flap (PRK and LASEK). Take into account that LASIK is surgery and comes with risks. Having the procedure at a young age probably will mean the results won't last forever and additional surgery could be required in later adult years.
on Lasik...just be careful in selecting a Doctor....Brian McCann, catcher for the Atlanta Braves had Lasik, had problems, and played w/glasses all season...
Go for it! A friend at work got it done and she is so amazed with the results, and like everybody says the glasses do make you look cute and fashionable, personally, I'd go with the surgery.
Yeah I'm more for functionality than with what looks good. I'm glad I can pull off glasses, from what other people say, but I'd much rather not have to deal with them.
as already mentioned, you do rrreally want it and if the doc says you're sight will really improve with it, then perhaps you should. but as i already told you, i can't get passed the whole going into the eye part :P
LOL. why are you even asking? You want it so much, it couldn't be more clear. There are some risks to it, but every surgical intervention has them. If it's something you really want it, do it. :)
Yeah, I feel you. I have an irrational fear when it comes to eyes. People say "eyes" and my eyes start like burning or something. lol. But actually want to do Lasik too. But I can't yet. First, I don't have the money yet; Second, it's only recommended once the diopters stabilize for at least 12 months.
Lasik! I've always wanted to go for it. I asked my family doctor about it, and he advised me to go for it when I'm a lil older as lasik can be only done once. So for now I'm still young and I guess I can deal with my bad eyesight with contact or glasses . But I'm sick and tired of of wearing glasses. :(
DUDE....I want Lasik SO BAD!! but like u i'm like "OMG, they slice ur eye open and do WAT?!" lol! i've worn glasses for as long as i can remember. nvr had contacts, from hearing wat u said about them i dnt even know if i want them lol so....yea hehe. i'm kinduv in the same position. i'd do it tho if i were u. as long as u pick a good place to do it and not in the ghetto i'll think u'll be fine lol. GOOD LUCK!
That sneeze made me laugh more than it should!! If your getting it done, go to a proper opticians to do it. I have a cousin who had it done semi-cheaply and he eventually had to pay about 3 times as much to get it fixed again, coz it just got even worse. gl
Glasses make you look cute but if it makes your life better, then do it. If it makes you happy, then do it. Everyone I know who has had it done has had great results and never looked back. Do it, do it, do it. No pressure.
I know a few people that have gotten it and quite like it! The only catch (from what I'm told) is that your eyes can still get worse after the surgery, so its good to make sure your eyes are semi-stable so you don't have to get the surgery again. However there are also options to have touch up surgeries done as part of your purchase plan. So be sure to check that out too! :)
My glasses are transitions, and i've had them since i was in middle school so my eyes have gotten weak in the sunlight. So if i ever get Lasik i'd miss the built in sunglasses xD
I got glasses for the first time in 3rd grade, and then for my 21st bday(supposedly the earliest you should do it) I did LASIK! I LOVE IT! Seriously, the procedure is painless. The ONLY downside that I have experienced is at first, you're eyes will be really really sensitive to light so get some cute sunglasses, but gradually you will be less sensitive. Find a really good Dr. that you trust it makes it easy :) My Dr. here was great but I dont think you are in Texas!
I had lasik about 10 years ago. I had to jump through a bunch of hoops because my optometrist thought I was too young and that my eyes would continue to get worse throughout University. But I persisted and found a really good eye surgeon at a local University. My eyes were still 20/20 up until I got a job where I was staring at a computer screen for 10 hours a day, they are a little worse now but its pretty negligible. The surgery was very quick and painless. BEST DECISION I EVER MADE!
You should probably do it, but only after you see a specialist (who's not connected with the Lasik clinic) for a complete evaluation to determine whether you're likely to have a successful outcome with minimal chance of complications. You could also do some online research - there's a lot of stuff pro and con.
My advice: Go for it! I'm in exactly the same boat. I'm practically blind without glasses/lenses and really want to get laser eye surgery. If your prescription is as high as mine, and it sounds like it is, then surgery may not completely 'cure' you. But, to be honest, you won't need to wear glasses/contacts all the time afterwards. What it must be like to have that choice... I know people that have had it done and they wish they had done it sooner. x
I'm terribly near-sighted. I wish I could do Lasik, but I'm afraid of the unknown. I've been using contacts for over 15 years, and it's become a routine caring for them. I'd like to wear glasses in public (for fashion accessory), but the lenses make my eyes minuscule.
One day, I'll do Lasik. So go ahead with it, and keep showing those beautiful eyes.
My eyes are in pain now...and I don't even have glasses :S

As everyone knows, excessive masturbating causes blindness. So if you're vision in going so quickly, you might want to cut back a little.

Yeah, I'm going to look into the other kind of eye surgery that doesn't involve any cutting at all. Like a permanent contact lens. Weird stuff! o.O

Are you talking about intra-ocular lenses? If so, they do have to make an incision and they only last for about 15 years =S
