As much trouble as Magicka has given me through playing on my own, even if I hated every single aspect of the game, it's an original concept, has original gameplay styles, and the designers siad "No." when they were advised by "professionals" to do otherwise. That alone is enough to make it an amazing game and enough to make me love it.

The reason why I think people say having everything unlocked right away is because you'll lose the player base faster.Most games have some sort of grind to get better stuff,but MMORPGs exploit this more than any other genre.then again shooters are starting to pick up on the grind,but just using different forms.I really don't think many people would play a game for years if it werent for that it takes that long to get to the max level+end game equipment.I hope the grind part of games go away soon

a thing about getting all abilities at the start is a bad thing for some games, like if you got them all in "God of War" it would get boring like on the third level.

it just depends on the game your playing like darkspore thats a great game for having everything because you have a giant variety in character but games like darksiders, god of war, dante inferno, really need that system or it wouldnt get get that feeling of having more pwnage to keep you playing the whole game
