no offence to the director but this movie is a real horse-sh%t. VietCong were well-trained soldiers, with state-of-the-art weapons funded by the Soviet Russia and the Chinese Communist. Those bunch of morons in the trailer are real amateur scumbag. American soldiers got captured by VietCong were well-treated. VietCong used them for diplomatic negotiation. They were arranged in 5-star- Hotels. Those fake Vietcong in that trailer looked more like Cambodian Red Khmers

I saw the documentary of this story a few years ago. It was very interesting & the movie was quite loyal to it I thought. Denglar had a thick German accent though that sounded like Colonel Klink, so its understandable that in the movie he just had an American accent. Bale & Davies are great in this film. I also liked some of the Vietnamese/ Laosian guards characters especially the little person. The real Dieter Denglar had a lot of character & strength of character & seemed a little eccentric .

best movie out there..great acting, perfect everything. The only flaw is the way the portrayed Gene. In real life he was the guy who planned everything, and he was the guy that went back for his friend who was ill, hoping that Dangler would make it and send help to the prison camp. To this day we havent found Y.C. or Gene. Sad story, great film.

The original plan was to split into two groups, Duane, Eugene and Dietler together, the rest as another.

But instead it came down to 3 groups (Duane and Dietler together) As Eugene went with To instead who was very ill and to sick to carry on on his own. Their intended to get to the nearest ridge and wait for rescue.
