Very Good video, but Summoning play Symphonic Black Metal (or for someone Epic Black Metal) and Amon Amarth play Death Metal, only the themes are viking. Anyway The Land Of The Dead is a sublime song!!

These viking metal bands(I'm talking only about viking metal bands, not pagan overall) are very nice, but I think instead of talking about norse mythology histories, they could teach values about the Asatrú and show the religion, not the mythology. Yes, mythology is cool as well but when some people hear about mythology tales they think that it is an old thing, a past thing. Asatrú has not died !

Aside from their Norse themed lyrics, norse depictions all over the place, i don't see why a melo death band can't be considered viking metal, if their lyrics and motives depict such, call a spade a spade. Sure they are a mainstream depiction of what the masses call viking metal, but still.

Clear vocals, some folkloric instrumental (neednt in all the songs) and other characteristics. The second is that a musician than compose and play his music need to know, what is he playing, do you understand? And in a interview with John Hegg, he said that he do death metal, just because he DONT know, what is viking metal. Conclusion? AA is melodeath.
