To you all who complain about the jar; Have you own a mantis?
It's common to keep a small mantis (like the one in the video) in a small enclosure. That way they find prey much easier. You know, because mantids aren't very active nor do they chase their prey. They choose a spot in which they sit for hours without moving, waiting something edible to walk close enough. Then they'll strike. :) And as the mantis grows, they'll move into a bigger tank.
"Well, this is Peppermint's new cage. She likes to wander around the house, but she is so small that I allready lost her once. I don't keep her in here all day; she's got a ten gallon tank, but we can't use that to feed her." Read the description.
And did you see how small her mantis was?
You guys clearly don't know anything about mantises.
WTH? You rather as well let it free. Would you liked to be locked up in such a small box for how many hours a day? Makes no damn sense to keep a pet if it's going to be locked up in a small compartment even for an hour.
@ehanson343 It’s not a box, and she was not locked in there for “hours a day”.
It was kinda funny because when she got bigger – I let her loose in the living room and every morning she would be sitting on top of her cage (NOT this one) waiting to be feed. It was the coolest thing ever.
@bulldude8796 I actually happen know something about them. What the fuck are you commenting on this for more like. Go troll somewhere else fuckkerrr :)
too much thigs are wrong that place its ok for a newborn but u need a bigger place for ur animal because its too big for that dimencions other thing those holes were too small and that place need more air the boottom need peat moss for wather and the air is because we dont want fungus in the cage ho cant kill the animal i have 5 praying mantis and i criate them im know what im taking
The jar is more than large enough for the mantis at it's current size. It's fairly young, so nothing is wrong; however, when it grows larger, than maybe you all can bitch without looking like idiots.
@0seadragon0 I think, a year ago I might have been appealing to all mantid keepers to keep their mantids in bigger tanks as I had achieved a miracle spring 2009- spring 2010. I'm sure I kept a Bud Wing over a year from purchase as a nymph and also in keeping an African 10 months May- March 09/10. This was because I went the whole way and bought the biggest tanks in their catalogues.
Prior to that, my mantids didn't last beyond the mid point of winter from purchasing as nymphs April- July.
@MrPlingplong Actually thats about the size of a cage you want for that small of a praying mantis. A small cage means less surface area for its prey to roam around which makes it easier for the mantis to catch it.
@MrPlingplong In case you haven't noticed... the caption says: "Well, this is Peppermint's new cage. She likes to wander around the house, but she is so small that I already lost her once. I don't keep her in here all day; she's got a ten gallon tank, but we can't use that to feed her."
where did you get of find it.... because i know they sell eggs at osh but they hatch like 100 and they all eat each other so i don't want to have to deal with that
WTF! YOU'RE CRAZY!
YOU CANT HOLD WILD ANIMALS WICH LIVE IN WILD IN THAT!

Nice "fake" nails. You couldn't just be normal and have real nails? And plus, you should have a bigger place for your praying mantis.

LoL, these are my REAL nails... I've only worn fake nails once, and found them quite uselsess.

Good idea with the sea-fish-stickers and sand. So the mantis feels like in nature. ^^

@trashark Yes, because mantis are sub-aquatic creatures, aren't they.
