i can't speak highly enuf of the potcake:D being a resident of one of the family islands, they have earned a great deal of respect from me. potcakes are highly resilient. unlike those pure breed dogs that seem to get sick if you so much as sneeze on them or give them table scraps. potcakes are REAL dogs. had one that got his head cracked open and he still lived (that's WITHOUT medical attention). for 14 years i might add, his life got cut short by a drunk driver however:(
My husbnd and I adopted a Potcake a couple of years ago from Marsh Harbour and he "Nipper" is the most spoiled dog I know. I wish more people could be informed as to how wonderful and loving these dogs are. We visit the Bahamas regularly and have seen these dogs but never knew of their plight. As a huge fan of Phil Stubbs, I only found out about this song when we were in Lucuya and heard it on the radio, I thought Bone Fish Folley was my favorite song until this. Pat Bounds. Fort Pierce, Florida
bey potcake is a bahamian name stop lying to people bout caribbean, and btw we aint part of the caribbean we part of the commonwealth thank you very much
@TheConchyjoe u stupid dread... jamaica is also part of the commonwealth.. so is trinidad and tobago..we may not technically be part of the caribbean, but we share the same culture, and politically we are also part of the caribbean as we are members of CARICOM.. and we are 'technically' part of the west indies which is basically the same thing as the caribbean..just get ur facts straight.. being a commonwealth country doesn't mean anything it just means we got independence from britain.
potcakes are the best! i was in exuma to do a free spay/ neuter clinic and rescued 7 to come to canada, now we have over 20 now living in Ontario Canada! two call my house home!!!
as a bahamian man, i can give you folks the right definition of a potcake. first it is not a caribbean term it is a BAHAMIAN term for a dog that has a mixture of breeds, we call them potcakes if noone knows what other breeds of dogs they have come from...
@Rashadwilliam naa they are founf through out the caribbean..... some islands just have different names.. for instance in trinidad they call them POTHOUNDS... so its a simalar term to decribe the same typeof dog
dey dont love me dey only know me when dey need me.. a potcake is the best investment (usually free to acquire and cheap to feed) and will be the best dog you ever have (smartest too)
went to turks and caicos this summer to find "lil bear" is a potcake.... he is a very sincere and brilliant doggie at 2 years and rarely does anything to piss me off other than greeting me at the door wth jumping and running circles under my feet... i <3 muh lil guy
Great dog! Mine's a tad hyper and bit obnoxious but if I get mad she acts so sad. She was the alpha of her pack XD which explains so much. Stubborness!
She is very shy, and shows signs of aggression towards strangers, but we are trying to work with her. Anyone have any tips they could give me about potcake aggression?
I can't even begin to tell you how happy we are that we adopted a Potcake... they are a breed of their own!! We live in CT, USA and our Potcake adapted very well to the 4 seasons. He trained quite easily and has a tremendous amount of love to give. We also have 5 cats and a parrot. We have a harmonious environment and they all get along and play together... :"Caico's" favorite thing to do is to lay out on the patio when it's 80 degrees out... go figure..LOL
He is six now...He was born behind Boogaloos restaurant on Provodinciales... and was brought here by Dr. St. Claire in Meriden, CT winter of 2003...he was born around November 20th...I know that he did have a brother that came with him and a family in Meriden owns him. could that be YOU???
Anyone know the chords to this, please email me ryanac1@gmail.com.
