I SAT NEXT TO MR. SANDERS AT RONNIE SCOTTS, WHAT A PRIVELIGE, HE IS SO GOOD TO HEAR /THANKS FOR ADDING THIS VID. TRULY. HE IS A REAL GENT. NO FRONT A MAN OF THE PEOPLE,LOVE DAVID LIKEWISE.
I had to comeback on this. I love love Pharoah's face when Sanborn goes....I just wish we had this type of thing on TV and Cable now. Someone believes that nobody wants this. Poor fool!
Kenny garrett has pharaoh sanders as a guest on his album "Beyond the Wall", highly recommended, the title track has ridiculous solos from the entire group. I saw kenny live perform Beyond the Wall live but pharaoh wasnt there @_@
If I could play like either of them I would quit my job IMMEDIATELY and be happy being a poor musician. Alas the time to practice escapes me. I wonder what K. Garrett would have sounded like instead of Sanborn. I love Garrett's phrasing
I saw Pharaoh and Kenny play together several times, they work together really magically.
I'll never forget the show at the Blue Note in NYC where Pharaoh went off into his primal, soul yelps for an extended solo and Kenny came in afterwards and just took the whole place to church. It was divine...Definitely check them together if you have a chance.
Love Pharoah's style. Just started playing the tenor. 'Greetings to Idris" my favorite man nothing can get me down when I hear that piece. Can any cat out here gimme advice on how to go beyond the normal range of the instrument? Also does Sanders' pianist have any solo work out there?
The classiness of jazz is only a front for what it truly is about...ok...What you have to do when your listen to this song is stand up to it. See? You can't let it fool you with it's classiness. It's classiness is only God in disguise to see how much you really want his help. Stand up to it and challenge it's proclamations. Dig!
Very interesting. Jazz in general touches you spiritually like nothing else.Well, lets say some of us. Especially this "Thembe" piece from "Night Music"
I saw Don Elias with Sanborn at the Blue Note a few years back. He did a whole unnaccompanied solo with udus and all kinds of great stuff. Absolutely amazing. Sanborn was killer too and so was the bass player. Ricky Peterson? Richard Patterson? Pharoah sounds so at home with these guys in this video. His musicianship transcends boundaries like that.
Pharoah Sanders is awesome. In fact I was born on his same birth date, October 13th AND I play the tenor saxophone in my college band.

Does anyone have a clip of Sanders earlier in this show where he plays something just by himself, I think unaccompanied?

Sanborn is really good, but this clip illustrates the "less is more" theory perfectly.

Everything Pharoah plays is so spiritual. Coltrane was the same. Every note in profound and meaningful.
This is what sets their work apart from all the instantly disposable work of the popular mass society.
