I can't believe how many jackasses are yelling shit at him in this video. Could some suicide bombers please light them the fuck up so I can enjoy this video?
@slicknicknirvana seems like every video i see of him the audience is acting like this.. interviewers also tended to be huge dicks to him. don;t quite get it, maybe the audience felt uncomfortable because he was so subdued

I like artists who take requests. You gotta admit it takes effort to buy a ticket, stand in line for 2 hours, stand and wait through 2 sometimes 3 opening acts, drink your 6 dollar can of beer, just to see your favorite artist play alot of "easier" songs from the "new" record, when all you wanna hear is an older song that got you through a time in your life. Elliott Smith was a MAN among boys dont get me wrong, but his live performances were terrible, often forgetting lyrics and halfassing it.
well because when he was in the depths of his addiction he gave performances that were utter shit. i love this performance, its wonderful, and the overwhelming majority of his performances were amazing, but he did give some bad ones in his time.
when ppl scream like that it makes me so mad...anytime my friend plays live its my job to yell at them and remind them that the guy playin is not a fuckin jukebox
It's too bad that a lot of people such as these don't realize how rude it is to call out song names. It makes me a little angry. It's not some guy in a bar doing cover songs, it's elliot smith at some of his best.
It's too bad that you don't realise that Elliott actually ASKED these people to call out song names. "Sad song, happy song, new song, old song?" Ring a bell? Get a hold of yourself, please.
Who said "The only good rockstar is a dead one, I want all my rockstars dead!"(in a non offeensive way) just saying that he's a good artist with great songs. But it does seem true, that all dead rockstars are good.
It almost seems that he becomes uncomfortable when people ask him to play Miss Misery; see how he fidgets his strum hand? Also, it is evident he was a trained musician because when he tunes the fourth string down a half step he tunes it flat and then comes up. Never tune from sharp to neutral!
That doesn't necessarily mean anything. I was never formally "trained" and I know to do that. I'm not saying he was or was not taught professionally, but that can't be used as reason enough.
actually, the guild of american luthiers recommends (in their super complicated instructions for tempered tuning)tuning from sharp down to pitch. otherwise the string retains extra tension above the head nut and will settle sharp.
Oh wow, never heard that. Thats interesting to know, but I still think that the average guitar will tend to go flat faster than a guitar personally crafted in the hands of a luthier.
@charliebjustice I get the best results tuning down and then tuning up but different strings are different cases... it really matters if you use heavy gauged, light gauged and if you have a 3v3 or 6 in line headstock... bridge matters a bit too.. if you have an archtop or tune o matic bridge you'll have much more tension.
yeah, tune down one whole step (D) then tune the top and bottom strings to C. Then tune the fourth string down one half step so that instead of it being F it is now E.
CGCEAD. Start by tuning the whole thing down a step. Then tune the now "low D" to a C to match the fourth string and the now F on the third string half a step down to an E. Then your done!
