  • Looks pretty cool, I might go with SDL as well. I basically have a choice between SDL and Clanlib.

  • pretty neat, keep it up!

  • Nice work , lookinging forward until i can do this:)) inspired

  • Great Work!

  • Very good.

  • @8BitAdventure Thanks!

  • Can you write manager game in SDL (C language)? Btw your game looks good :)

  • Nice, needs a very minor tweak in some collision detection like when jumping onto a platform, and there needs to be some minor work on the animation. The character just looks... out of place, but nonetheless it is a great flex in your programming muscles. I've been using XNA for a while in C#, but I want to go back to Allegro, but I know that SDL is OpenGL, which I would want for multiplatform capability. Have you worked with any particle system yet? I'd like to know how hard it is to implement.

  • @Spirrwell Hi, thank you for your feedback. I haven't used SDL since this video was posted, so I never got to implement particles. I've instead been experimenting with various engines and languages, mostly as a part of my education.

  • @bytegrove Ah, I see. I understand, I'm fifteen years old, and I've been studying since I was eight years old, and only in the past one or two years have I actually been able to understand it all. The complex programming terminology threw me off back then, but math comes naturally to me. Good luck and keep up the good work!

  • how did you do the graphics?...

    Looks awesome...

  • @pufixas The animations were done using 3d models rendered at a super low resolution. :P The background and level tiles were made in paint and photoshop.

  • @bytegrove

    Thanks for reply.

I love your game, though. Play it like every day :D

  • @pufixas Wow, that's great to hear! :) Thanks!

  • How long did it take you to fully make this game from scratch?

  • @SheWasAlmost18:

I worked on and off on it for about 2 months. I think making the level editor took the longest.

  • @bytegrove Cool! I have a competition in like 7 months and I need to learn how to make a good game so I went with SDL

  • @SheWasAlmost18 Best of luck then! :) I can recommend lazyfoo (dot) net for learning SDL.

  • @bytegrove what site did u use to learn this? i would like to learn. also did you learn how to make the level editor yourself or read it somewhere? thanks

  • @lucirz For tutorials on SDL, I recommend: lazyfoo (dot) net

As for the level editor, I knew what features I wanted so I implemented those, but I bet there are some good tutorials on that subject as well. ;)

  • is your name 'graham' by any chance?

  • I really like this project. Your graphics are really good. The theme is excellent its got a retro feel to it that works really well.

  • The music reminds me of Zombies Ate My Neighbors. xD

  • That's really nice animations and a smooth level editor.

So is it ported to the GP2X-Wiz or only the GP2X?

  • halo

ples can say how made u these?

can i also make 3d game

    were u found totorial

    thank in advanced

  • I love the graphics in this one, very oldskool, very nicely done :)

  • nice looking game do you have tutorials on how you made it

  • Cool! :DD Love the coding but the graphics needs some more work in my opinion :)

  • This is great! I like the style! :) Any chance you will be adding more attacks?

The level editor looks cool, and I like how the aliens splat around when you kill them :P

I would give you 5/5, but I have no idea what google did with youtube's rating system... I suppose it's the "like" button?

    TheComet

  • @Thecommet

Thanks! :) When I get tired of working on soulhunter I work on this instead and vice versa. Yup, I'll add more weapons! :)

Yeah, they updated YouTube and replaced the star rating system with like/dislike. :P

  • hey there, what kind of map/level editor did you use and how did you impletement it with SDL?

  • @sil3nt9

I made my own level editor ( @1:01 in the video). The editor was made with SDL as well and it can be accessed from the game's main menu.

  • @bytegrove ah nice, how'd you get everything running?. Any tutorials on the subject?.

  • good shit man. pretty cool, reminds me of that space viking game you were working on. this game looks really polished man, very skillful.
