Yes you do need a custom firmware for the ir shell and any other homebrew app.

As for any TV it depends on what app you use, because there is always a set list of which tvs the app is programed to work with.

Also the psp remote app can control ps2's dvd players etc. etc. if it has an infrared signal and is programed with the app.

My psp slim messed up earlier today. The buttons stopped working on 3.90m33-3. Though i'd reinstall it, that didnt work, so installed 4.00(new) OFW and they worked but:

1. The row of buttons at the bottom dont work

2. I cant enter any text( it keeps quitting text entry really fast)

3. Scrolling in the web browser with square and joystick doesnt work

psp phats and slims have the same battery time, and actually the phat one holds more charge but the PSP itself is less efficent, but in the end, its the SAME TIMES.

You can have a phat on for like 10 hours, especially if you lower the cpu usage of this program
