At least he had the guts to come clean and tell the truth in the end, unlike a lot of other riders!!!.... how many top riders were clean in the 90's?!
Beeing able to understand Danish, id like to add that the statements from Bjarne Riis when he admited to having used doping has been altered. They are not the same as originaly broadcasted. A shame that him actualy beeing honest is used in such a manor.
Beeing able to understand Danish, id like to state that the statements from Bjarne Riis when he admited to having used doping has been altered. They are not the same as originaly broadcasted.
People make such a big deal about doping and cyclist who do it. To be honest I don't care who doped. Although, being a cyclist on our national team and having competed in the Commonwealth Games, I can understand why the CYCLIST themselves would be concerned about it. I mean its REALLY HARD work. I can understand why they do it. So from that point I don't really care and would not condemn them. I myself have of course never doped and never will, but I understand why they go to that extent.
@Draganus As much work as I put in, I didn't even finish the race, but like I said in my last post, I would never condemn the sport or all cyclist automatically for the few that dope. Those that dope just want it that bad. I don't think that they think about what it does to the sport, they just think about what they want out of the sport. I don't think anyof them are malicious in their intent, they have goals and dreams like we all do. I just wish they would be more considerate in reaching them
BTW: Having followed the case on danish television, I can say that the part about him using doping on his current team is fake, in the original clip he explains that Rasmus Damsgaard has helped him make a system that makes IMpossible for the riders to be doped without the risk of being caught... they just cut that part out in this video...

As a Dane I am actually still proud of what Bjarne Riis did... doping or no doping, it still takes a hell of a lot more than just sticking a needle in your arm to be able to win a race like Tour de France...
But the thing I'm proud about is the fact that he is one of the few that had the balls to stand up and admit that he used doping...
Wait a second. Did he say the team he owns still dopes? That they do it to where they can't get caught? If thats true; what year did he say that, because it appears cycling is more clean now.
I mean the truth is, everyone in the 90s was doped. Maybe even the early 2000s. It hasn't been until recentally that riders weren't doped. I don't really blame him, anyone could do it then and get away with it.
Riis doped to win, but at least he had the balls to admit it, unlike so many other riders during the last 15 years of rampant EPO and blood doping in cycling
Its NOT the same clip, its you one clip where they ask about somthing about CSC and he had used that wrong so some will think all Saxo Bank is doped...
Rigtig fin video.
At least Riis has finally told the truth..Others would never really say the true. All professional cyclists take drugs...is not a secret: L.Armstrong,M.Indurain,M.Pantani,A.Zulle,T.Rominger, Vinoukourov, Valverde, Contador etc.
Is very sad doping´s world.A world full of corrupt and false people looking for ephemeral glory, dirty money and dark politic... is this really cycling? Is this really sport?
I don't think theres doping to the extent in todays cycling as previous cycling. Contadors face doesn't look as awkward as Riis face. What I mean is I can believe that contador did it without drugs. Riis always looked dopped, he had that zombie face. Riders in the tour in the 90s looked like holocaust victims. Riders in the tour now look like professional athletes. Now as far as Armstrong being dopped. I think its possible.
I still thinks he is great! but what about Pantani, Ullrich, Indurain and alle the others.. and yes Armstrong! You are dopped more than the whole sport together!
I think Riis deserves some respect for his honesty. He was also competing when many other riders were also doping, and many still deny this. I note that UCI have yet to take his 96 TDF away from him. The main thing that counted against him was his appearance, which was not particularly photogenic, and should've made no difference, but I can't help think that his bald head and thick set build, which went against the traditional cyclist build, may have also contributed to his unpopularity.
fuck this video..Riis is an exceptional human being both on and off the bike. they make it like he was the only one to have this magic potion. he still had to train harder than all of them.
No he did not say that his team is using Doping, it is a lot of sound bites taken out of context, and put together so it sounds like that, actually he said "Absoulutly no, we have a great system" and so on :)
you have to read in to the context of what he says. Q Is doping also a part of the team? A
"absolutely" In the sense to what they are doing in their anti doping program.. The question in Danish is more open to suggestions than it is when it is translated into English.
Bjarne Riis vil altid stå for noget helt specielt i dansk historie.

Whats the BIG problem? everybody was doped back then, so Riis was just the best "doper" . Cycling is a sport of liars but still exicthing !
