3DO didn't develop this game, New World Computing did. New World Computing created the entire Might and Magic franchise. 3DO bought NWC in 1996 and almost destroyed the M&M franchise by forcing NWC to push out games as fast and as cheaply as possible. 3DO really screwed up Heroes 4, they moved developers to other projects, pushed the release schedule ahead by months, and then laid off most of the development team just two weeks after the game was released.

weel i have to say that the heroes saga are the best games that ever exist, my first heroes was the trhird and is the best for me. Heroes 4 is good but i get bored after 1 hour of playing it, yes, there are too much more possibilities whit estrategy and realy a lot of things. Someting that i realy HATE! of Homm4 is the desing of ALL the building and some creatures like elemetals they just look stupid and buildings are truly unreal and have no meaning with respect to the ground around them

This is the result when you know your company is drowning. They were in deep finacial hot water and were filing for bankruptcy. Pros of HOMM4: Music Writing (not story) New Stratagy gameplay New Faction (Chaos) (unless I am wrong..) Cons Creature Designs (eh. Some were alright, others were wtf?) Hero taking part in the battle (okay yes it was a cool upgrade...but it failed for me) I am just nit picking here though :) I like this game...but not love.

@MageAnakara Indeed. While i think that Heroes 4 was a great game with lots of potencial, i do not agree that it should have been released, because i think it's not... done. Not entirely done, something is missing, and sincerely thing they should have stayed on road with Heroes 3 and just improved the history there along with graphics and added stuff from there that way. This jumped off completely... and no improvement in graphics, it was in fact, worse. :(

To all who did not understand the intro to Heroes IV(like me at first), replay HoMM 3: Armageddon's Blade and all the HoMM 3 Chronicles, the stories are quite impressive, and you'll understand what's the deal with the Sword of Frost and Armageddon's Blade, In HoMM3: Chronicles: The Sword of Frost they also cover the prophecy of this scene, the destruction of Enroth(the planet)

This was the best HoMM title for me first and foremost because of the music. Beyond that, the story was fantastic. And these 2 aspects are why I like the series, overall.

I found the intro very cool back in the day, particularly the swords clashing and causing a worldwide cataclysm.

There can't be fair comparison between Heroes 3 and Heroes 4: those are two almost totally different games. I, too, used to think Heroes 3 was the best, but the longer I play Heroes 4, the more original and powerful in its own right does it feel to me... Heroes 3, after all, was but yet another improved copy of Heroes 1 (just look at its similarity to Heroes 1 in combat system, perspective of the battlefield,... ).

Heroes 3 IS alot richer in towns, creatures and possibilities, though.

I liked Heroes4 the best, mostly because it gave heroes an individual existence and allowed them to take part in the action themselves or even team up to fight side by side. It also allowed the player to send out individual creatures or small groups of them to explore and collect resources faster. It gave the player more options.

Heroes 5 was good, but lacking. It just didn't feel like HoMM at all, just an imitation of HoMM3. Well, a good imitation, with shiny graphics and cool characters.

In heroes IV i play imposibile mode,at V is really more difficult especially when you are against more computers.
