I love how deeply ironic this is. The film is a subtle criticism of the Iranian government's policies. A Separation is definitively anti-Iran, so why Iran sees it as a success is baffling.

@Dandundara, I watched it at Tower Theater in Mimai, but I think it is being shown quite widely by the big movie chains too. It was one of the saddest but most moving films I have seen. The personal tragedies & conflicts under a different culture were amazingly moving. I keep waiting until the very end for the girl's choice. The contrast between the familycourt system in the West & the one in Iran was starkly sharp. It certainly deserves to win the Oscar too.

I'm Belgian and I have seen both "Bullhead" (Belgium) and "A Separation" (Iran). I haven't seen the other Oscar nominees. I'm sorry to say, but "A Separation" is the better movie.

I watched this for the second time in the theaters today. As I was walking up the aisle towards the exit, I noticed many people were still sitting in their seats with the heads down. I assumed they had fallen asleep (since the film is on the slower side) but then as I looked closer I realized all these people were crying and had their eyes buried in their hands. This isn't just a film, it's an experience. I urge everyone to go see it!

This is a great movie but the trailer is misleading because it uses music much more than the movie does. The movie itself has very little music to manipulate the audience, which makes it all the more powerful and effective.
