Actually, I think this was in the build up to the elections where government sponsored thugs were attempting to intimidate people who supported the opposition.
Actually this video and the situation as a whole has been, at this point, largley discussed and exposed. Modern Egyptian society (and the majority of Arab-Muslim nations) makes it practically impossible for women to defend themselves in almost any mode of life. The problem of rampant sexual harassment in these countries isn't in any way a "new" development either, it's just finally getting more well deserved attention. I hope women get equality and rights in these kinds of places one day.
This is a regular street fight. Police is powerless against the number of people in the fight. You might not be used to this, but what happens is two opposing groups from a different neighbourhoods carry sticks, knives, and other white weapons and start a fight for some reason, things escalate after a while when friends starts to call upon other friends to the fight. Can all of those posters who insulted Egyptian men in the video, actually point at the sexual harassment in the video.

Let's face reality -- humans are sexual beings, and if a society attempts to repress that urge, then it comes out in inappropriate ways. Think of all the people in such places who get married just to fulfill that sexual urge and then live miserable lives because they picked the wrong person.
To me it's the height of hypocrisy for a culture to prohibit sexual relations outside of marriage and then allow harassment of women to take place. Just goes to show that no culture is perfect.

I lived in Egypt for many years and downtown (west el balat ) cairo often gets crowded like that at night and durring Ramadan..there are several reasons why a crowd would get like that..sometimes political demonstrations, a fight between two men ( which I've seen on several occasions on the crowded streets of cairo ) , a famous personality..etc
I know one thing, rape ,strong armed robbery, murder..etc what is common here in the states, is rare, extremely rare in Cairo.

I'm kinda wondering what provoked this amount of attention. I lived in Egypt, and while I suffered sexual harassment daily, it was never anything on this proportion. The only thing close to this was when I rolled up my pant leg riding a bike in a conservative area. Other than that, if this was in the city of Cairo, I can only assume they were walking through some section of the city that is highly conservative. Surprised about the cops though, Mubarak would have their heads for this.

they're not being sexually harassed! I live in Nasr City, Cairo and if men were caught sexually harrassing women they would be beaten by other men. Those women did something wrong or they're being escorted away for something else. There's nothing sexual about this.

I was in Cairo and nothing like this happened and I looked very western..everyone was friendly..except for a few females that gave me dirty looks I had no problems at all,,maybe it was the gorgeous egyptian escort..thye dont like to see us take their men..lol.. but boy is he cute..most of the men there are..sad they dont look like that here.

I lived in Egypt for many years and downtown (west el balat ) cairo often gets crowded like that at night and durring Ramadan..there are several reasons why a crowd would get like that..sometimes political demonstrations, a fight between two men ( which I've seen on several occasions on the crowded streets of cairo ) , a famous personality..etc
I know one thing, rape ,strong armed robbery, murder..etc what is common here in the states, is rare, extremely rare in Cairo.

Actually this is not the first of these incidents. IF you google sexual harassment of women in Cairo this video pops up. The police have the same attitude that you have. Its probably why these attacks continue without repercussions for the offenders.

We were in Hurghada and there muslim girls aren't allowed to walk alone, without a man from their family so when they see singles girls they think bad things about them. So is better to go walking with a man, you'll feel more safe.

I've been in Egypt with a friend of mine ( so, two single girls) but this never happened to us. It's true, the men are very surprised when they see a woman on a street without a man beside her and became very "friendly", but if you not pay attention to them, they will leave you alone.

I worked several years for a humanitarian aid agency in Africa and due to professional reasons my wife and I had to spend some time in Egypt where hordes of men constantly molested her! These sick people do not care a shit about respect!!! Their lascivious behavior and insulting attitude still makes me feel sick. Would they do that to their mothers, wifes or daughters???? After all those years in Africa it never happened somewhere else...

I'm kinda wondering what provoked this amount of attention. I lived in Egypt, and while I suffered sexual harassment daily, it was never anything on this proportion. The only thing close to this was when I rolled up my pant leg riding a bike in a conservative area. Other than that, if this was in the city of Cairo, I can only assume they were walking through some section of the city that is highly conservative. Surprised about the cops though, Mubarak would have their heads for this.

yes there are a lot of ignorant arabs out there. its not as easy for a guy to get laid in arab countries mainly because girls are more conservative and religion plays a big factor sex with out marriage is prohibited. That's probably why egypts percentage of stds is very low. its hard for a man to get married without money a place or a job. O no money no honey. By the way the percentage of poverty in north america is much lower than egypts its either your rich or poor
