Sometimes I think they like death metal and play death metal just because it is brutal and normal people shrink from it. To be more pactific, slipknot is melodic death metal. Everything required for that genre slipknot have. Death growls, solos, blast beats, the lot. Sure, slipknot are a bit heavier then melodeath but that's just their unique sound and image.

@StretchDouche have you heard rap and turntables in a cannibal corpse or kataklysm song? or better yet, do you know the difference between DEATH metal and NU metal? slipknot is not death metal. it's just the same as calling lady gaga hard rock... they are not the heaviest band as what they have "said," and they are no way near extreme metal. extreme metal is death, doom, black and (maybe) thrash metal. you call yourself a metalhead? >_>

@StretchDouche hey, if it sounds death metal to you, it doesn't mean that they are actually one. and one thing: if i say i'm the best guitar player, would it mean that it's true? NO. do some research and listen to REAL DEATH METAL: Decapitated, Nile, Death, Possessed, Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, etc, then compare it with slipknot. then tell me if they are still death metal.

I do listen to death metal and it's name is slipknot. I know what death metal is thanks, and I can tell you foremost that slipknot DO sound it. You wouldn't say cannibal corpse are smooth jazz now would you? Sure, I've listened to bands like those you mentioned but I prefer my music heavier. AKA, SLIPKNOT!

@StretchDouche Well, I know some nu metal and it's name is SLIPKNOT. they can be alternative metal, heavy or nu metal, but NEVER close to death metal. blast beats? dissonance? DEATH growls? you haven't heard of melodic singing in death metal right? heavy music is slam death and brutal death. but if slipknot is heavy for you then fine. but it doesn't make it death metal. not even an inch from it. and i don't know what's wrong with you if the bands i mentioned earlier is not heavy for you.

To be more pactific, slipknot is melodic death metal. Everything required for that genre slipknot have. Death growls, solos, blast beats, the lot. Sure, slipknot are a bit heavier then melodeath but that's just their unique sound and image.

@StretchDouche nu metal combines elements of heavy metal with other genres, like grunge and hip hop. It consists of rapping, turntables (and rich people who have tough lives). name other melodeath bands with those characteristics (except for sonic syndicate: they turned into bullshit). and corey doesn't do death growls. it's a method called "shouting" or "yelling;" some of their songs are also basically a mesh of rap with some metal influences, commonly called "rapcore."

Nu metal is bands like limp bizkit and linkin park. Slipknot are nothing like them, they're more akin to death industrial acts like korn. Besides, slipknot have never rapped in their songs, name me one.

Glad you agree with my that slipknot is not nu metal. But you need to realize they don't rap. Compare a song like duality with 50 cent. Completly different. But if you think lyrics that rhythem = rapping then it means %99 of artists are rappers. I'd compare duality's sound to a death metal version of paranoid by black sabbath, but knowing you you'd call them an R&B band.

@StretchDouche now i didn't say that they aren't nu metal. and did you see the SPEECH is capitalized? it means that they sound like talking along with the beat, and not the music and lyrics. it can be easily compared with eminem rapping to a heavy metal accompaniment. and again, it's a characteristic of nu metal. fast passage of lyrics are not spoken in death metal but rather GROWLED or SCREAMED (e.g, cannibal corpse) and doesen't sound like rap (or slipknot). again, still not death metal.
