Good video. Using the proven TKO Method of measuring Power, The Walker and Dragoons with the right Powder, like 777, Swiss BP,KIK BP and Black MZ and with the Right Projectile like my New VKV 240 and 255 Grain Bullets are capable of exceeding 357 and 41 Magnum Power with more sectional density and a bigger hole!! Videos demonstrating my bullet are on my channel and Mr. Hovey Smith's Channel.
tsafa1- sounds like the tollerances on your Walker are very tight. You'll have to keep it extra clean as BP makes lots of fouling. As for not striking the caps, you might very well have a cap fragment stuck down inside the action. Good luck.
I need some advice now. I shot my Walker for the first time. After the 6 rounds the cylinder became very hard to rotate. I have not experienced this with my other BP revolvers. I have no misfires until after about 24 rounds. Then it acted as if the hammer was not hitting the caps. I never experience this with any other BP revolvers either. What do you think?
I do not understand the vid quality issue with this one. I have uploaded all of my videos the same way, but they never have a consistent quality once they are in the system?! I upload as MPEG-4, is there a better format?
Tried to rate this video 9. Is this a first video? I don't even have a camera, but this image is broken up a bit. Does it need a better quality camera? Loved watching the Walker Colt shoot. Keep shooting and filming!
Not entirely. It's a Colt 1847 Walker. The Colt Walker was used for a bit, but the cylinder had to be sized down a tiny bit due to exploding cylinders (too much powder allowed) and the (ramrod? pumping rod?) would often fall down after firing, so they made a spring-bit on the end to hold it up. The result, was, as you mention, a Colt 1848 Dragoon. Good guess though, the guns are virtually identical.
Not likely, the bullets are cast in soft lead and would flatten out when they hit the armour. They would however release all of their energy which would most likely result in serious blunt trauma injuries.
With a maximum load it's just a shade less powerful than a .357. So, short answer: At close range with a pointed, hardcast bullet, it could probably penetrate light and maybe even medium body armour. The stuff that's designed to stop rifle bullets though... not likely.
Just did a bit more shooting today, snow and all. The new video is being uploaded tonight and should be available tomorrow. More detail, 9 minutes long, and much better resolution.
I also have this excellent revolver. I built mine from a kit. You should try a 60 grain charge on the next video (also could you make a more clear video) please post more video's on this gun thank you
I use Pyrdex P which is equivilent to FFFg black powder. So far I have only used a 50 grain charge. I have been told you can go up to 60 grains. I have not fired it much but at about twenty yards I was suprised that I was able to hit a Coors Lite can with 3 out of 6 shots. Pretty good I'd say. If winter ever ends I will do more testing. Wonder how that can got there????
owned and loved mine for years . Mine is an old Eurarms/ Brescia . I open the powder flask , and fill each chamber to 1/8 to 3/16 from the top with 3F . That won't leave much room at the top of each chamber for grease ...( I use Vaseline ) , so watch for chain fire . Awesome weapon . Also own a .58 Zouave , another bad boy .
You would probably be better off with crisco or lard. Petroleum + black powder fouling = glue.
Also, as long as your bullets aren't undersized, you are much more likely to get a chain fire from a bad cap. Make sure the ones you use don't fall off (uncapped nipples are a disaster waiting to happen) and it's best if they don't explode into lots of little pieces.
Oh, and don't pour from an open flask straight in. That's how they invented the grenade. Fill the spout, close the valve, then pour.

enough trauma to knock em back and re-aim for a wicked one-handed side-ways head-shot, lol!
