I always have Jim and Maury close in my thoughts, memories and wherever I have access to play music. Each time I play their music it strikes me differently.I cannot even clearly say what song is my favorite because I find magic in each and every song! There will never be anyone I hold more dearly in music than Jim and Maury. Their music and memories will always be dear to me!
Jims words, maurys special guitar licks and it just all came together to makebeautiful music that still grabs a hold of your soul! We need more footage and DVDs released of jim and Maury! What a perfect musical combination of talent!
This man has class. "Some women are lovers, some got no sense, but a woman like you oughtta be ashamed...don't come knockin' 'round my door, I've heard your lies before" I love it.
The original version of 'bit**es ain't sh*t but ho's & tricks'
another example of croce's genius...beautiful to-the-point storytelling, and maury's guitar and harmony is brilliant as usual. I can't believe how understated this song is - only 36k views on youtube!
What a great song of Jim's! He was a great song writer, and always had good hook lines in most his songs! And Maury always had the right "fill in licks" to play in his songs. It is hard to decide which of his songs was my fav. since I like them so much! It makes me kind of sad whenever I get the guitar out and sing & play one of his songs! I was only 12 when he died, but was already playing, writing songs and learning his songs. RIP Jim, wherever you are!
By the way, he wrote that song himself, sat down and the two of them played it live, probably with limited rehearsal, and you can hear how easy he made it seem.
That's the real thing folks, and you didn't get it that often anymore.
He had eyes as black as coal and as a 14 year old girl I was completely, irretrievably head-over-heels in love with him when he died at the age of 30 after his plane crashed upon takeoff, leaving a gig in Natchitoches, LA. When I watch the old footage from those days, I feel like that 14 year old girl again and it still holds the power to make me sad….but oh how I love to watch it anyway.

In 1980 I ran to Jim's songs to help heal my broken heart. 30 years later I run back and have a listen to this song for the first time ....... what a shot in the arm this is towards accelerating the healing process. It feels as though he personally wrote these songs for me !!! LOL Thank you Jim .......Sincerely , One of millions upon millions of lives you've help stand and face the wind !!!!
@zaachaary He's just saying that sometimes it's the female in the relationship that might be at fault, or
use the other. Is that not possible? Does he not have the poetic license to say that? Guess it's just misognynous to you. I doubt Jim wherever he is, if he's anywhere but in the memory of the people close to him and those that appreciate his music (is that too deep) is worrying much about it.
An incredible songwriter & crooner of heartfelt ballads. This one just about rips the heart to shreds.
Folks just seem to remember "Big Jim", "Leroy" & "Soggy Ol' Shoes", but JC's real genius resided 'way down deep in his very quiet ability to touch our souls.
The thing about Jim Croce, is that his songs are one of two things.
They are either just plain fun, or they hit you right smack in your face.
Jim had a way with writing, and moreover, an intimacy with his audiences, and fans. I cried the night the radio brought the news. But I'll bet he still plays on to an audience of Angels.
Jim, thanks so much for this one. I never heard it till recently, but I have to tell you, its just what i needed to hear right now. Growing up, you always seemed like a good friend who knew and understood what I was going through. I grew up listening to your songs, and thought I had heard them all. This is like a gift from the past that I never opened. God bless you Jim.
The blend of Jim & Maury's guitars are incomparable. They are so key to their legacy. Jim could really sing before audiences with a special quality that didn't suffer because he was in a state of the art recording studio. He could truly carry it LIVE.
U can pretty much cut and paste my comment from the "these Dreams" video to this one
This is an obscure album cut that I happen to LOVE from the "life and times" LP never knew a video clip existed for this song...THRILLED TO FIND IT HERE!
Thank you for posting this. I have been listening to his music since I was a little fella and it has accompanied me since. I am sad that this song is just now finding me but grateful it finally did.
I first heard Jim Croce about 6 years ago. I randomly came across his video being played on PBS. I am very thankful for that day, his music makes me happy.
Beautiful.
