I own a 3L2 gardner, with 150 hrs on total rebuild, currently in a classic wooden boat but soon to be removed. Looks near identical just more cylinders. Nice to see it's baby brother. I'd say that unit's got a worn crankshaft bearing by listening.
This was made to be a lubrication research engine. As such it has probably been rebuilt a few times in its life. I personally would use one of these engines for power generation.
