  • WHATS going on with magic ISO.. been on google on youtube for hours .. no one seems to be able to explain what file is needed to make the disk bootable

I am trying to make BT4 iso bootable.. but when it asked for the file to do that..("from bootable image file") there is NOTHING mentioned to help you find what file that is !!!

  • The stupid rtl8187 only is detected on the latest Ubuntu but not backtrack 4 R1.

Cannot extract all the files from .gz, can't use "make" for anything without getting error 1 or error 2, cannot detect ethernet so I cannot use apt-get install build-essential subversion module-assistant to supposedly get passed the "make" errors.

Since the Alfa 500 056h is the only means of connecting to the internet, how do you install let alone make the drivers?

  • @juanmoreno2007 That means there are no DHCP server's on your network.

  • aff

  • @cyberjackcyberjack Usb install and live install are not same, and you need more space for it, i used 10gb 1st time, and as i can see it's ok.

  • Great video..... but i get stuck in the part when i have to ask for my password and log name during the installation it doesnt ask for log-in and password so when i get the command part right after the restart i cant get through

  • @jehovy Try user - root password - toor, that's the default for BT, and from there you can make an account in the OS.

  • great video, helpful and to the point, thanks :)

  • hi i installed backtrack 4 final with dual boot xp after install my windows xp won't start properly, it start at first then show blue screen for 2 second and reboot , i tried google and many site is there a solution for it thanks

  • @kanishixan did you partition your hardrive? And did you install backtrack on a seperate partition?

  • You can find a lot online tutorials about, and yes you need wireless adapter for it.

  • I wonder a thing is it just for me to install backtrack4 on my laptop and use it to crack wep keys or is there some components i need or can i use my standard wifi ?

  • I love this operating system. (Codename pwnsauce] xD

  • can you put back track on dvd cd or no

  • Thanks

  • can someone help me from the 4 step it goes to 7 step and i can't make an acount :S

  • same here....

  • There is no step 1,2,3,4 on this video,if you are having problems installing i can make it a lot easier, did you get the file from a backtrack official website,if you have not, then don't trust it,there are distributions from Russia and other places out there that are not safe to use,i can make it pretty easy to install,i can send you the information for an easier install, and its small, the only thing that is expected is patience,it takes a while to download and install,it requires patience.

  • can you boot into backtrack now from the boot menu without the liveCD?

  • Any idea as to why during the install it skips steps 5 and 6?

  • Cool it works...!!!

  • Mine did not ask the WHO YOU ARE? Stuff......

  • What if it's installed? Will it be a dual-boot? Or something else?

  • If you install it onto a separate partition to your other OS grub will automatically detect them and make it a dual boot. But you of course have to set up the install process to not wipe your whole hard drive.

  • how manual install ?????????

  • What's the difference with the Pre Final version??

And IS THERE ANY WAY we can run our internal wireless card on BT4??? 3??? Anything!?

  • GUI installer. Now u can install to your HD without problems. And mny other things, be active search forum.

  • If your internal wireless card is compatible with Linux drivers then yes, you can. If not, then the answer is no.

I have the intel chipset in mine, and it is fully functional with backtrack. Depending on the make of your internal card, it may or may not work for you.

  • KDE 3.5? and blue? mine isnt like that

  • how do you get blues screen ant first with KDE? coz mine is black

  • thanks ive beeing fooling around with this for a while lets see if this works!

  • man I run it from usb and I cant install it..... it says all the things it says to u but when I type clear and than startx it says that it was not found error and shit.

  • o i have found it nvm sorry

cuz it aks for: [sudo{ password for nasdreas: ???

    i dont have it

if i typ my normal account password is sais its wrong how do i set a new root password like you at 2:38

  • the sudo password for backtrack is "toor" if i remember right.

  • I tried to install it coz it said that it wasn't on the system, so I needed to connect to the internet, but I don't have a wireless card plz help

  • OMFG ITS SO EASY KNOW!!! THNK GOD!

  • yeah beacuse, it's ubuntu.... i hate ubuntu, backtrack must remain with SLAX/SLACKWARE kernel based!!!

  • In my opinion this is a very universal distro.. pros and amateurs can use it. I have had NO linux experience at all besides a high school class about shell scripts which i dont remember a thing. I use this on my 2nd comp to crack the WEP keys in my neighborhood for fun. Also i like taking my EeePC to wal-mart and kicking all the handheld scanners off the network hehe

  • Hm. They re-added the GUI for installing it now; interesting.

  • Yes, BackTrack 4 is't not just security testing OS, now every Linux user can use and learn from it.

  • Question is, does every Linux user need to?

In my opinion, frankly, this OS had a tendency of separating professionals from amateurs. Not implying that those who lack the knowledge should be deprived of such an opportunity, although if an amateur who doesn't have much of a clue of what he is getting himself into, that sort of GUI feature could be possibly hazardous; considering of course, a number of different worst case scenarios.

  • good tutorial good video quality! i just edit my bt4pf iso installed to my 4gb usb.

but i want to dual boot and make a manual install from my usb is there a way to do this? because UbiQuiti installer is good if you want to start all over and i need help with manual install

  • Go to remote-exploit forum or IRC and we can help you !

  • i want to do this with an external 4gb hdd. can boot from cd and use ubiquity?

  • Yes, you can !

  • tried, didn't work. connected 4gb 2.5" drive using ide>usb adapter (powered). booted from live cd, bt4 didn't see the hdd. only local hdd was detected.

  • I've tried to install backtrack 4 on an external 4gb SD, but it require more space...

  • U can't use USB for your hdd.U need to try to set from BIOS, usb hdd for second hard.

  • yes i figured i can connect internally, it will be recognized by bios as IDE0 or IDE1, then use ubiquity. but if i install that way and then remove the drive to be used as external with ide-to-usb adapter, pc may not boot?

  • Yep, but if you want to use BT like this, use Live CD or WMware image ISO to boot from virtual machine.

  • Yep, if you use new ISO image you need to have 8GB for fine install !

  • Hey, i did this and when it shows the partions, it didnt show any?

  • I don't like SD solution.Take some Kingstone 8gb USB and u can do what u want.

  • Take Ubuntu linux and when u learn how Linux work,u can try BT etc..

  • ok but i have loads of questions and for some reason i cant PM u so im gonna post several comments now.

    1download the iso image.

    2. burn it on a disk big enough.

    3. turn of my computer and boot using the disk.

    4. run the commands u did (startx etc)

    5. a\run the installer now here i am confused. firstly do i need to download something additional to run hte ubiquity installer ??. also when i install it do i have to save it under a directory like when installing any other software? and lastly do i do all of the above on linux or XP/vista...........

  • (i have all 3 for some reason) and also if it works best on Linux i can still run it on my vista machine without useing the VMWare workstation? ty so much

  • and how do i decide where i want to install it?

  • how do i make the Iso file into a live CD and how do i boot it??

  • sorry im a uber noob at this so can somebody please explain to me what i do with the downloaded file ? (yes im at that level) thanks in advance
