We played this piece in my high school's top band this year, first time our band has made concert finals in about ten years. I was nearly sobbing by the end of our performance. Such an emotional piece, I absolutely love it. Perfect end to a senior year
This is the only decent recording on youtube, great job.
Ronald LoPresti! Now, there is a name from the past. My old, dearly beloved colleague, Bernard Herrmann [yes, the bloke who composed 'Psycho'] thought very highly of LoPresti. That is indeed a compliment.
A guy worked with the band at my school and he said dont do the clarinet dynamics in the beginning put energy behind it without using the dynamics which i thought was a great idea because it makes it more musical. My band director also had the first clarinets bring down alot of the upper upper register down because of intonation
We have this song in band. Cannot wait to play it at a concert it is the best slow song I have heard. Don't even get me started on the fast part.!!!!! (:
this was our marching band's second song out of three in this years show. our show was called vioces of the sixties. it was put together as kind of a JFK rememberance show. im waiting for the season video from our director so i can post it. this is a little bit of a different version than wat we did, but it has the same basic idea. we recieved the highest score in the entire state of iowa for this show. our school is a 3A school, and we beat all the 4A schools with it.
I was a flagete in a highschool band in miami,fl and usually when my band goes to fba my girls an i just hate sitting an watchin the band play we normally fall asleep but one competion while we were in washington this past april they played this song the flagettes were all reading or listening to ipods and i actually was captured by the beauty of this song that hear i am listening to it on youtube. this song is great. And we got straight superiors and grand champs!!!! GO TROJANSSSSSS :)~~~~~~~~
@Evola13 We played this song in my college's symphonic band last year and I almost did cry when we played it the first time. It is very moving, that's for sure.

Beautifully done. Let his flame burn forever more...lest we never forget him. RIP John F. Kennedy.

i think the dynamics could be a little better. the balance is for the most part pretty good though. nice job.
our band did this piece for our last concert and the difference between hearing it live and on youtube is tremendous.

Wow, what a beautiful performance! Way to go!!

BEAUTIFUL performance. Maybe a bit too many breaths, or a little too fast, but the sound is so pure...just what this piece needs.
