I can't beliver Jayson cant play thoes "crossovers" in time????why did he even try? he lost time bad, the sounded like amatures. Jayson is not his did, he needs to find his own ID as a drummer.....There has nevere been a drummer IMO who grooved like Bonham, and NEVER had to play the same ting twice! LOOK AT PEART! 25 years and still doing same ecact solo
He definetively screw the crap out, man this is so bad, just cause bonzo dead, Led Zep was over, cause never would find someone with the same chemistry.
Hey..don't get me wrong..I wasn't ragging on Jason as drummer in general..I just pointed out that he f***ked up this particular segment of this one song, I don't mean to suggest that he screws up all the time, or that he isn't a pretty good drummer. He is (in my opinion) no where near to his pops level, however very, very few rock percussionists are.
Jason messes up here SO many times. Yes around 0:52, but Page moves on, skips the usual segment that normally fllows the ext lead break, to smooth over the miscue. But the REAL trouble begins AFTER that at 1:06! Page is like "WTF!?" and turns his whole body around to face Jason, and is actually prompting Jason by emphatically SHOWING him the chord progression! Jason is SO confused and lost that he actually STOPS playing at 1:11. Bonham & Page were SO dynamically in tune..it WAS the MAGIC of Zep
Sorry to be so analytical, it just all seems so familiar. Anyone ever been in a garage band?! It's the kind of thing that happens all the time when you introduce an element of improv into the music, as Zeppelin always has.
I actually find the miscues starting at :52 kind of quaint. It's a textbook example of a "trainwreck" with one mistake cascading to into others.
If you consider that the power chords are supposed to start at :52, then yes, it's Jason that ends up a figure behind with his fills. The thing is, it's Jimmy that initially fails to pick up on Jason's really clear intro cue. It's as if he's trying to give Page a "do-over", kind of mentally restarting the power chords at :57.
"quaint" ?!? Dewd That word should NEVER.. be used to describe anything about Led Zeppelin's music! Even their famous acoustic sets which have powerfull ranges of emotion, could be done ANY justice by utilizing the word "quaint". "Quaint" is definitely NOT a word that will EVER fit into the Led Zeppelin lexicon.
it was jasons fault even watch the lights. the light man starts that crazy light shit when the triplets would start, but quickly stops it when jason doesn't come in to the part.
jason never made the mistake, he made the change at exactly the right time. It was Jimmy who fucked up, trust me. I have listened to enough versions to know.
MOST Zep fans has heard "enough" versions. Do you assume that your the ONLY person that has bootlegs?? I 've been listening to boots (I have about 90 full shows) since I was 13 (20 yrs ago). You have the right to your opinion. But the way Zep ALWAYS was, and the way Page has ALWAYS been with ANY drummer, most ESPECIALLY with Bonzo, to end his extended solo breaks..is that : He turns his head to the drummer, gives a head nod. Jason TOTALLY messed up here, whereas his pop WOULDN"T have -trust ME
Dazed and Confused was originally released as a folk song w/ nothing but acoustic guitar. Jimmy then did an acid-rock cover of it with Yardbirds which remained relatively unchanged when he moved to Zep. However, the dotted quarter note bassline is not what I was referring to. Listen closely to the bass guitar under the guitar solo.
Song was originally by a folk singer Jake Holmes. The yardbirds saw him perform it live somewhere on long island in the late 60's and they did a rock version of it. Consequently, ended up on zeps 1st album.
Songs was originally played by Jake Holmes at a bar in USA, jimmy heard the song while touring with the yardbirds and he only changed the lyrycs, add the viola part and inserted the solo which was from another song of him
ha, at 1:06 paige messed up, he was suposed to go back to the main guitar riff. either that or it was jason...i dont think ive ever seen him mess up b 4 though...but who cares. the guys is friggen amazing
yeah, bit of a fuck up, but Page wasn't great on the night at all either...The whole of dazed and confused is played badly by them I think...HOWEVER LED ZEP are the masters of rock n roll and the best band ever in the history of the world
man, i dig jason bonham a lot, but he REALLY fucked this song up. at 1:06 he goes into that signature bonham fill a measure too late which throws off the rest of the band. if you watch the zep DVD with john bonham you'll see the "tells" that page had when bonzo messed up parts to songs, and he had the same exact reaction when jason screwed that fill up. and what sucks here is that half the audience knows the songs better than the guys on stage do!!
Yeah. 1:06 is bad and it's an awful drum timing. I mean I can't understand how Jason figured to do the fill at the same time as the transition guitar solo, which is supposed to be alone.
and i read all the time how jason bonham spent months and months listenng to only zep songs from live and studio performances to get ready for this tour. i'm an ADEQUATE drummer but nowhere near his caliber... but i can count to 4! i wish somebody had interviewed page or JPJ after this gig to get their reaction to this mistake. they played it off okay, but that's only because they're such a great improv band. poor guy must have felt like shiz...
Jason is as close to bonzo as we get... so they picked him so they could have the closest thing to the original lineup... I would die from the amazinness of this concert
Want the best BEST SOUND and VIDEO? Go to my page and check it out! I took all the video I could find and a GREAT sounding audio track and made a nice MULTI-CAM edit of this song and others from the show. I am also working on more songs so check back!
I have a sound recording of this show with very clear audio quality (but not enough bass unfortunately), and I can assure you that they kicked ass on this song from start to finish. There's a lot of subtleties to Page's guitar and Plant's voice you can't hear in this camcorder version. Hope a DVD comes out so you can all hear it.
Behold, son of John Bonham giving it a worthy shot on his [brand new?] Ludwigs. Hm, nice drums, Jason. Play all of Led Zeppelin II! But they may play most of it.
OK, not looking to heighten the tension here, but keep in mind Jason played with Page Plant in 95 and 97 on the Page Plant tour. Think about how freaked he has to be for a myriad of reasons, filling his fathers shoes and taking his place as his son. we can all think our favorite drummer can do better, my pick would be Mike Portnoy. They chose Jason for a reason long ago and he is good and deserves the right to play. Page said he was blown away by how well he is filling in. 'nuf said. Peace.
Jason did not play with Plant/page in 95! It was Plant's drummer, Michael Lee, that started with him on his 93 fate of nations album. Also Page and plant toured in 98 not 97
Hi, you are correct about it being 98 not 97 -sorry, I just looked at my ticket,Lee didthe No Quarter tour 95. IN 95. Jason played hall of fame induction and others, Jasons wedding 1990 page, plant bonham, jones all played. Outrider tour Page - he toured w/ him... 98 PAGE PLANT Tour too. The Point was, there is history and he had the right to play and he is good!

It was totally awesome they let Jason play the drums for this concert, but if they're really thinking of doing a couple of extra concerts like Jimmy said in an interview. Then I really hope they let Phill Collins be on drums. Cause this guy isn't anything like his father..
Right on there man! Gadd would be soo fucking cool on a small tour with Led.. but I know for sure that Phill would have done a 10x better job then Jason did. I'm a guitarist and don't know much about drums but I do however know that Jason sucks!
i agree about the drummer on the page and plant tour: he had massive feel and was spot on, hahaha, what a cut to not be prepared for zep & he is FAMILIY!
i noticed a lot of you are pointing out the flaws of them. Dude it's not like they played together a lot lately. This is great. If they go on tour i betcha that they will be better because they would have time to practice
It's Jason for sure. Just count with Page. When he raises his hand, that's "1." Jason mistook Page's raised hand as a cue. Jason's ahead of them now. Page and JPJ figure out what's happening and catch up with Jason. Jason figures it out but overcompensates. Page, JPJ AND RP have clearly moved on. Jason got caught up in what SHOULD be happening and stopped listening. Then for some reason, he plays too much anyway. However, do check out Jason on KASHMIR -- he rocked! Just like his dad!
I agree 100 percent, he did the triplet fill late at the end of the solo. He stopped listening for sure, that was something so Great about Bonzo always watching always listening. Page said it was almost ESP sometimes, very hard to replace. Shit 5/24/75 bonzo messed up the same part, maybe that is what Jason was going for. LOL they said he knows EVERY bootleg
i believe the brand name of those amps are orange, they were very popular in the 60's and they were reissued in the last 10 years, page also used them on tour with the black crowes.
JAson i great but when they played with phill collins on the drums i think it was in 1985 it was great too! we don't know that much phill collins as a drums player but he is awesome. ALso the drummer who went on tour with page & Plant a few years ago (i don't know his name)is better than collins and JAson.
Yeah, they did lose it for a little bit there, but that's the nature of live performance. It's all about how you recover from the unexpected. They did that just fine. Jason can't be perfect through the whole show, nor can anyone, but they stayed together as a unit. If anything, hopefully they will tour to correct that small mistake
ya I cuaght that,i have the whole(audio)show, think its the only one,but it is a bit improve, they cuaght it,that's how it goes throwing in jams, planned jams, they caught it and tightened up ,that's how they played tight but loose, dangerous but great
that very obvious mistake actually soudns very cool IMHO. Jason playing fills in 4 while Jones and Page play a riff in 6. Page looks at him like "wtf?" but it made for a very cool power chord at the end there...
DORK! THE REAL ZEP? This is as close as it gets to the Zep with the REAL BONZO.. but this one is actually great too! I am very pleased by this performance!! All this bitching is pissing me off....... I am sure Bonzo would be proud of what their doing. He was watching this for sure...
For 27 years everyone has been begging and pleaing for Plant, Page, Jones to do a gig together. Jason is the only rightful person who will ever be able to play with these 3 legends as he grew up on this band, the music and the legendary status that we know as ZEPELLIN!!! the late great John Bonham is smiling down and proud of his son and bandmates for making this come together.
Ouch! Poor Jason! That drum fill is he does at the end of the solo is a hard timing transition to make. I have always messed that part up too when playing along with the recording. LOL!
Jason is still a great drummer. We will let him slide.
It sounds like Bonham missed the cue coming out of the solo... I've heard tons of live performances from them in the past, and the original Zeppelin made mistakes too. They were never perfect live, but what do you think it means when you have to have a lottery to see a band 27 years after they break up and TWENTY MILLION PEOPLE apply?
yeah you're right. I think Jason was a step behind at the point where he's suppose to pause during the guitar solo and Page plays on. You noticed Page turning towards Jason to get him to recognize where he's at in the solo. If they go on tour they can straighten that out with no problem.

ya I cuaght that,i have the whole(audio)show, think its the only one,but it is a bit improve, they cuaght it,that's how it goes throwing in jams, planned jams, they caught it and tightened up ,that's how they played tight but loose, dangerous but great

that very obvious mistake actually soudns very cool IMHO. Jason playing fills in 4 while Jones and Page play a riff in 6. Page looks at him like "wtf?" but it made for a very cool power chord at the end there...

no Nudie suit for Pagey this time around. But hearing these old familiar sounds could raise the dead! Do you hear THAT Bonham?

These guys seem quite good. But not as good as the real Led Zep. Who are these guys anyway?

Who else but his son can drum to Stairway and the rest? No one, plain and simple

Ouch! Poor Jason! That drum fill is he does at the end of the solo is a hard timing transition to make. I have always messed that part up too when playing along with the recording. LOL!
Jason is still a great drummer. We will let him slide.

the worst part of the night, they recovered well, but jimmy got lost too. Went in to some gritty blues shit. Ok I guess, Plant held it together.
zoso1978 4 years ago
blue shit? since when is blues shit?
yes it ws a mistake, but to their credit they made it sound very cool. It very nearly fell apart
Hektor88 4 years ago
Actual I think it was Jimmy who missed it, he went into the break too soon
zoso1978 4 years ago
It sounds like Bonham missed the cue coming out of the solo... I've heard tons of live performances from them in the past, and the original Zeppelin made mistakes too. They were never perfect live, but what do you think it means when you have to have a lottery to see a band 27 years after they break up and TWENTY MILLION PEOPLE apply?

He did the triplets too late
zoso1978 4 years ago
still sounded fine to me, sure a little off, but it was his first time playing live with this band...

yeah you're right. I think Jason was a step behind at the point where he's suppose to pause during the guitar solo and Page plays on. You noticed Page turning towards Jason to get him to recognize where he's at in the solo. If they go on tour they can straighten that out with no problem.

Bonham completly messed up the end of the solo. Ridiculous. Not the only timing mistake he made in the gig either.

"That was amazing," Grohl told The Sun. "Jason Bonham was fantastic on drums. I think he was even better than me."
So many unqualified opinions on you tube but most experts and fans agree with me so I feel good about my opinion; I loved it.

I agree with you zepfan4life. Jason played fantastically.
