@eclipse245 I'm sorry but that is not entirely correct. The heading indicator (DG) should be syncronized with the magnetic compass every 15 minutes or so. Basically, it shows magnetic heading. To find true course (track as you say) you will need to factor in wind, magnetic deviation, and magnetic variation.
Remember, the pitot tube is only utilized by the airspeed indicator and no other instrument. The static Port how ever is utilized by the altimeter, VSI, and the airspeed indicator
About the way that the light switches are setup, When the engine is running, the following lights should be on: Beacon, Nav, and Taxi. Strobe lights are should only be used when: on the runway and during flight.
@jasleil No lights are required during the day. Normally the beacon should be on while the engine is running and must be on in low visibility conditions. The others are at the pilot's discretion.
One question tho, at the end you mention the slip indicator, if the ball is left or right of the center, you need to 'step on the ball' (meaning if it's left you use your left footpedal to adjust, if it's right the exact opposite)
If I'm right, if you adjust this way with your rudder, won't the nose tend to go down?
that part about the altimeter, vertical speed indicator and that the air speed indicator rely on a pitot tube is not correct. The VSI and the Altimeter are using to measure height or vertical speed a static vent. The ASI uses a static vent and a pitot probe. So that the total pressure comes into the system and the static pressure into the capulair. Total pressure minus static = dynamic pressure and that's how an ASI measures it speed.
Yes, actually. I am going to start getting my rotorcraft PPL next year, and work my way up the ladder of ratings, until I am a CFII. I'll then log hours until I am a marketable pilot. My dream is to fly offshore, and I plan to chase that goal as best as I can!
That's the plan, anyways.
Creating these videos and sharing my knowledge with fellow simmers is a real joy of mine. I can't wait for the day I get to do it with the real thing!
hmmm, im still trying to figure out what i want to do exactly with aircraft piloting as far as a career goes, i just know that i want to fly fixed wing aircraft. ill probably go to college and get a degree in aviation and get my PPL eventualy, and mybe get into a military career with flying since that seems like a good option right now, and the military will train me at the taxpayers expense :D and still get to do what i want to do, fly.
Thank you. The idea of getting paid to fly an aircraft is an awesome one. Personally, I think that helicopters are the way to go. The way I see it, the airplane market keeps seeing a drop in jobs, while the helicopter openings keep rising, and expanding. There are so many different types of jobs available for helicopter pilots.
Anyways. Thanks again. I wish anyone who pursues a career in aviation the best of luck. It certainly would be a way to make a living.
I definitely want to be a helicopter pilot but I just don't have the money to get in (unless I just milked the money out of my grandparents and mom), so I'm probably gonna have to suffer with a career I won't like as much =P
Well, the military (at least here in the States) is basically free flight training. It looks like a good alternative. The only downside, or so I've been told, is that they are very picky about who gets to fly their million dollar helicopters (which makes sense).
My advice to you is to research like mad. Search through every possibility, and try to find the path that is best for you. That's what I started doing not to long ago, and now I have a chance at making it all come together.
have you looked at the military, you could be an army chopper pilot. You have to be an officer to be a pilot, so you have to get a college degree, aviation would probably be the best to major in. :D Then once you have a college degree thell let you be an officer and then you can fly blackhawks, or apaches, or whatever chopper you want to fly.
I've discovered that now a days, the two names have become almost interchangeable. Some manufacturers advertise as clocks, digital clocks, digital chronometers, and just chronometers. However, I should have mentioned the name chronometer. Thanks for mentioning this!
Thank you. That ATC chatter was just an idea to add to the feel of the video. It's not very often you get to just pull up to the runway and takeoff, and we wanted to show this in a very small manner. Of course, since this video isn't about ATC radio communication, we didn't want to get carried away!
Thats kind of off topic but you need to have a VATSIM client like Squwak box or FSInn. You first need to be registred then you go to a airport make sure there is a controller put in all of your info by hitting ALT and starting up your client then again put it in your info and connect to the tower then fly! Kind of brief but hope it helps.
not a single word about EGT or engine temp...

Too bad checking for white on the circuit breakers can't be done in FSX, since it doesn't model circuit breakers.
