my AMD Athlon X2 64 5600+ (2.8Ghz, NOT OVERCLOCKED) idles between 57-62c and 110~120c when playing games (yes, it's true. until it shuts down by itself afterwards).. I checked the CPU slot on the mobo and there is a black stain and there's a burnt pin on the processor.. However, the processor is still working and I'm using it right now. The consequence however is I cannot play games anymore. Is buying another heatsink like Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme will solve my temp problem?
@elLb0i i just purchased Coolermaster Hyper 212 Plus last October 2011. and surprisingly, my temperature idles now between 35~49 degree celcius compared to 59~76. and also for the 100% load, with hyper 212 plus, it never reached 60 degree celsius unlike the stock heatsink (120 degree celsius-thermal shutdown) ! and i'm totally stoked!
@08SiMiS80 Cool air is sucked across half of the heatsink and warmer air is blown across the other half. Both halves of the heatsink have airflow over them. Obviously the same amount of air is getting sucked in (cooling one side) as being blown out (cooling the other side). Why do you say this design is a flaw? Let the numbers speak for themselves.
Check out FrostyTech and TomsHardware's reviews of this cooler.. FT rates it as the second best HSF they've ever tested, right behind the Spire Thermax Eclipse II. His results with HSFs never seem to match the rest of the internet..
Note that FT rates it *above* the NH D14, and Toms' had it running neck and neck with the NH D14 and the Mugen 2. It had significantly lower VRM temps than the Mugen, as well.
Correct app. of TIM when you're using a HDT cooler is VERY important.
Goood Morning passangers, this is American Airlines. Thank you for flying with us today. I will ask that all fasten your seat belts as we will be departing shortly...
Loool did you guys hear the plane taking off in this video? hahhaha
will i think its kinda good with the cpu @ 4gh butt still its liwd as shit thats why i think the v8 cooler master cooler is better or oven yet trow in a peltier cooler (look it up (on youtube))
@Hecket i have the h50! Its amazing..but it looks horrible! lol Looks like a big black beetle thats being sponsored by corsair to have its logo painted on its back, Just Sat on your cpu!
I have the tuniq tower 120 extreme cooling my core i7 940 cpu overclocked at 1.2v and 3.6ghz and I'm idling in the low 30's and loading in the low 60's this cooler is what is says... a tower for a cooler and very extreme!!
Loading in the low 60`s? WTF ! Thats way HOTTTTTT. I have this same cooler with the phenom 955 and at max load ( crysis at max and BC 2 DEMO at max) I get 44`c
take into account that games do not stress CPU's very much, they stress the video card. This is beside the fact that the i7 940 has Hyper threading which does increase the temps while increasing performance AND it is overclocked. Low 60's is great at full load with HT and overclock
pretty much ya lol. However this is the only review I've seen on this cooler that is slightly negative which is a little weird because everywhere else it performs very well.
Prolimatech is simply huge. It's almost Twice as big as the TR 120, and that's far enough to beat every competitors. In high performance cooling, 2-3°C is a large difference. I think a coolers relative performance came from 1/(Volume*Temperature). Cause volume can be very impontant. By examle in some cases with Prolimatech, You must choose between installing a Fan on it, or putting memory in Your MoBo.
i agree that the tuniq sucks, ive read about the megahalems and it is the the best in air cooling, but it only beats the v10 with a small margin, like 2-3'c.. i stand corrected.. peace!
i would doubt that he made a mistake while installing this cooler. I mean anything can happen but i dont see him doing anything that would affect the performance that much other then seating it really really badly.
Actually it performs in line with the top tier coolers in its price range. It has a low profile too, which helps airflow and makes the case safer to transport.
Mine is also very quiet, only the fan can be heard a little.
My friend who has used the H50 said that in his experience it performs just about the same as the Dark Knight. It'll never compare to a true water cooling setup.
So looks are all that matters? You sure are a ricer. Also, cost shouldn't be an issue to people who actually have money, unlike you. Having to buy a quality 3rd party fan should almost be a benefit.
Yes, looks matter, especially if you wish to have an open case and enjoy sleeving cables and such. Is it the only strong point of the H50 cooler? No, like I said it performs just as well or better than the coolers that you've mentioned.
Price is certainly a factor aswell, if not then you may just aswell go with a full watercooling setup.
Having to shelve out additional cash in order to get equal performance, how is that a benefit exactly? It's not.
Also, please drop the shitty ad hominems. My budget for buying new PC's tends to be around $2-2.5k, price is still a concern.
If it isn't, then why don't you drop your shitty TRUE and invest in a proper water cooling setup instead? Because you're full of it, just stop commenting.
Besides, my Dark Knight is virtually silent when idle, running at around 997RPM. The loudest thing in my case is my VF900 which is always running at 100%.
Well my processor (Core2Duo E7300) is cool even on overclocking, on its stadard face. But that's just me using a plastic airflux tunnel and fans on the sides.
Try this Rodney, current CPU temp. in winter is 23*, and in summer it can go up to 39 but its fine by me.
i don't think the base is extremely smooth at all it looks like it was very poorly done with the extra spaces in between the aluminum and copper... i dunno the bottom just looks ugly to me but no one will ever look at the bottom anyways
If anything it helps, remember, you put thermal paste down in there aswell, and those small 'resevoirs' will hold some. It really is very smooth, I'm using one on my HTPC.
I don't know, I usually like to reapply thermal paste onto my heat sink every year and the more surface area the copper is touching with the cpu the better ability it would have to extract the heat assisted by the thermal paste... the small "reservoirs" seem like it would create air pockets and be a pain to clean out the old thermal but im pretty sure this heatsink beats any stock or cheap heatsink anyday
rodney, sorry, but i have to agree, i have a crap py 20 $ heatsink, and i got some tx-3, and i have a phenom II 945 oc'd at 3.6, and i dont even touch 45 c at full load, try using the tx-3, it does wonders, use a lot, spread it well, and apply some pressure, i thought i would max out at 3.4 for a sefe overclock, not even, i could of went farther, but i chose not to, to play it safe
Did you use TX-3? If you did then you should probably try re-seating with more of it. Its so thick you need to use a lot of it and actually spread it out. My 920 is at 4 on this cooler and load is low-mid 60's not mid 70's
Wow, this review is not that good, the TRUE is one of the best heatsinks there are, I hope you actually used the MX-3 that was included and not AS5, and what other fans do you have in the system, open air or what, just because you have temps like this does not mean that the cooler is bad.
how is it a great product if the performance isnt very good. Gives me the impression rodney just says its great so that he'll keep receiving products from them in the future..... come to think of it i cant think of any reviews he's made where the product hasnt been good or great.
if you pay close attention, It's more a "cold" and "whatever"-like Great, the normal Great, Kickass, and 100% Kickass :D so more like: descent, quite good, good! and AMAZING xD
Just curious, but did you test this cooler with stock thermal paste or something else, and could you try it again with some artic silver5 and Noctua NT-H1?
I recommend the Corsair H50. It was benchmarked against the biggest cooling towers. It beat the V10 i believe in the cooling benchmarks. Its really light and it makes it perfect for someone who moves their computers alot. Plus there wont be any motherboard bending that could usually happen from big heavy heatsinks
The v10 is overpriced the megahelm or the Noctua NH-D14 will beat it. IF you get a backplate it will help from the motherboard not to bend. The H50 is good but custom water cooling will always be the best
Yeah, i was just saying that the H50 out of all the Big coolers is the best option and is about the same price. Only downfall to it is that you lose a fan slot, it works for me since i have a HAF 922, i just mount the radiator on the side panel with a custom quick release mount my uncle made for me.
I just got mine. How the fuck is any human being supposed to fit their hands in to put the top screws on?

one flaw that i can notice on this cooler is the fact that the fan only blows onto one side of the heatsink.

poopguypenis2 2 years ago
It's not s'posed to compare to a water cooling it's s'posed to compete with the CPU coolers in its price range, which it does.
Unless you're going to overclock it won't make much difference which CPU cooler your pick above $40-50. Your temps will be low enough.
s4jt 2 years ago
@s4jt
There are still much better solutions over the H50 such as the TRUE 120, Noctua NH-D14, and the CM Hyper 212 Plus.
poopguypenis2 2 years ago 8
Actually the vast majority of review show the H50 performing at the same level of these coolers, if not better.
Most TRUE kits won't come with a fan, adding to the cost, or a 1156 bracket, adding to the cost even further.
Noctua NH-D14 is an extremely heavy cooler, the color of the fans is ugly aswell. The H50 is the best looking by far among these.
s4jt 2 years ago
@s4jt
So looks are all that matters? You sure are a ricer. Also, cost shouldn't be an issue to people who actually have money, unlike you. Having to buy a quality 3rd party fan should almost be a benefit.

Hey 3DGAMEMAN, I like your video reviews very much, you really know how to present us these products, but I have a quastion:
That fan controller, what's the use of it?
I know what is a fan controller, but shouldn't the fan controll it's speed bu it self, from the motherboard?
My cousin got a Core2Duo 2.66GHZ cpu and it's fan increases it's speed by the usage of the cpu?
So what is the use of that fan controller, oh, in expansion slot :))?
mariatereza007 2 years ago
@mariatereza007 you can usually disable the motherboards auto adjust feature
Xalies 2 years ago
The fan controlled is for manual adjust, but you can just connect the fan into the motherboard CPU fan header if you want.

@3DGAMEMAN But will the Fan be controlled by the motherboard? Or will it just stay at one constant speed?
Thanks

Wow, this review is not that good, the TRUE is one of the best heatsinks there are, I hope you actually used the MX-3 that was included and not AS5, and what other fans do you have in the system, open air or what, just because you have temps like this does not mean that the cooler is bad.
DaMirrorLink 2 years ago
how is it a great product if the performance isnt very good. Gives me the impression rodney just says its great so that he'll keep receiving products from them in the future..... come to think of it i cant think of any reviews he's made where the product hasnt been good or great.
RemnantsOfBeauty 2 years ago
if its not kick ass dont buy it =D
AllYouHearIsSwoosh 2 years ago
When he doesn't say its kickass hes telling his fans not to buy it.
cyrax1311 2 years ago 2
performance.. and yeah he give you a advise to buy a excellent tested hardware
ntzx9 2 years ago
his valuations are great and kickass. so bad and good.
xhimiz14 2 years ago
very sly of him to do that. Keep the manufacturers happy by saying its "good" or "great" but actually meaning its not very good at all.
RemnantsOfBeauty 2 years ago 2
if you pay close attention, It's more a "cold" and "whatever"-like Great, the normal Great, Kickass, and 100% Kickass :D so more like: descent, quite good, good! and AMAZING xD

I would've expected this thing to be one of the best; it can't even beat my Dark Knight!

at 0.20 you can see Rodneys Desktop^^
I have the same Wallpaper!

Just curious, but did you test this cooler with stock thermal paste or something else, and could you try it again with some artic silver5 and Noctua NT-H1?
NullH3ad 2 years ago
I recommend the Corsair H50. It was benchmarked against the biggest cooling towers. It beat the V10 i believe in the cooling benchmarks. Its really light and it makes it perfect for someone who moves their computers alot. Plus there wont be any motherboard bending that could usually happen from big heavy heatsinks
bigrigross 2 years ago
The v10 is overpriced the megahelm or the Noctua NH-D14 will beat it. IF you get a backplate it will help from the motherboard not to bend. The H50 is good but custom water cooling will always be the best
juggolo 2 years ago
Yeah, i was just saying that the H50 out of all the Big coolers is the best option and is about the same price. Only downfall to it is that you lose a fan slot, it works for me since i have a HAF 922, i just mount the radiator on the side panel with a custom quick release mount my uncle made for me.
bigrigross 2 years ago
The h50 beat the v10? ;)
The v10 sucks!

I still use my TRUE 120 (p6t has the ability to use 775 coolers)
fickie321 2 years ago
I HIGHLY recommend XIGMATEK's Dark Knight-S1283V over any air cooler currently on the market. Plus it looks good as well.
Athlon X2 6000+ @ 3.3 Ghz 1.5v
Idle- 30-35
Max load- 50-55
ICDWILL117 2 years ago
mugen 2 and Dark knight roughly have the same performance
Megahalem beats the dark knight
The new Noctua NH-D14 is a good cooler. Supposedly it beats the megahalem

i got a question, I got one of those big heat sinks. but i was wounder is it ok to take it off and rinse it with water?
spedknot 2 years ago
Probably not, why would you have to? Get some compressed air to clean it off.
l0lum4d 2 years ago
just wondering, i got one with a lot of dust in between the groves and what not.
thanks though
spedknot 2 years ago
ifn i had it id run cooler fan 110% 24/7 i like my shit cold as ice
Newbpwng 2 years ago
Ehh the V8 is still 9mm taller and looks cooler.
iTehTunePawd 2 years ago
ummm my Xigmatex hdt-s1283 performs better.
But its only a 775 Cooler :D

1366 conversion plate is available and some boards have both holes. Don't worry about it.

i have the older 120 and it does and amazing job, but it was a slut to install

Something isn't right. This cooler performs much better according to all of the other reviews I have seen.

Is Noctua NH-U12P SE2 a good CPU Cooler?
xMExHKSx 2 years ago 2
yes, its not the best overall for cooling. but its very quiet great performance and best build quality.
iheartcomps 2 years ago
Is this tuniq better or noctua se2?
xMExHKSx 2 years ago
the noctua by far. The noctua is a great heatsink its just not THE BEST in turns of cooling in turn to lets say the prolimatech megahelems.
iheartcomps 2 years ago
is the noctua one of the top 10s? not really looking for the best. Looking for one that can cool my i7 860 @ 4GHz. Now i am using stock cooling.
xMExHKSx 2 years ago
i would say so
iheartcomps 2 years ago
Oh okay.
xMExHKSx 2 years ago
ye check the reviews on it...it may not be the best looking but it does an amazing job
kalfreak3 2 years ago
actually it looks awesome. better than most coolers imo :D
stupidguyaabbcc 2 years ago
OCZ Vendetta 2 i couldn't recommend more. Uses push pins rather than back plate doesn't need lapping and cools as good as the TRUE for only £25.
XMattyhewX 2 years ago
Why even call it great if it doesn't perform well? I may be nice to look at (it is), but the main thing for a cooler must be that it actually cools.
jo05dk 2 years ago
rodney you sure you installed that correctly? no offence but those temps just dont look right!
LizzyAston 2 years ago 2
Hey Rod whats the best CPU Cooler ou there right now? Proli Megahalems or Thermalright IFX-14 or ...?
wsbygt 2 years ago
Megahalems and the titan fenrir are the two best air coolers at the moment. The latter being best.
