  • Listened to her music almost everyday since she first burst onto the scene. Amazing songs, videos and an amazing person. Unforgetable :-)

  • Only just re-discovered this song after 20 odd years. I love it.

  • Tori Amos is no Kate Bush. So why do people compare the 2. They are so differant. Kate sings dances writes and so much more and all Tori does is play the piano and sing. I've seen Tori in concert twice and she never changes her show. Tori is so boring and Kate Bush is so awesome!

  • According to a few bios, this was recorded over a two day period in October 1979. Even her "live" performances were recorded earlier and then synced live. All Wogan performances are a very good example...

  • Hmmm, I am not convinced that is a live performance, though it is definitely a different recording than the album. Is it possible they recorded this at the tv studio to be lip-synced with later on the air? The drums sound way too studio isolated, for one, and I would swear Kate's voice is among the backup harmonies. Plus, I see/hear no variance when she moves away or closer to the mic. Anyone got any theories or info out there?

  • @kennywowie I was thinking the same thing. I love the different guitar parts though. To see Kate at the piano is a treat any time whatever the circumstances.

  • I luv her hair in this video really pretty and sexy

  • Lawl Premier Gymnopedie

  • Live... ah don't think so ,, how about mimed!

  • Once again blown away by the phenomenom known as Kate Bush. Its the first time i have heard this song, its okay, but the way she sings it is so beautiful. Just the other day i heard "In search of peter pan" which i found incredibly beautiful. Its a shame we never got the Kate Bush show, like they did with Perry Como, Val Doonican, Stanley Baxter, ect. Kate just sat at her piano, looking beautiful, singing her songs and interviewing guests. Bliss.

  • Do you know what a compliment it must be to that excuse for talent Lady Gaga to be compared to this musical prodigy? Carrying the two in the same sentence is insulting to anyone with respect for music.

  • sorry, but this is not live! It's full playback

  • What I always or often read in the comments here, especially hear in the old interviews on UK TV : "She is such a talented Lady........", makes me angry.

KATE BUSH IS A MUSICAL GENIUS, NO LESS!!!

(From the very first day where she took place in front of a piano.)

I think that many people (also British people) have understood it late !

  • ...but is this really live performance? Seems to me more like TV studio playback show...

  • Wonderful!

  • Still remember this being performed during her British tour in the late 70s.

She sat at the white grand piano while clouds were being projected on to the top as she sang . All those who were fortunate to get a ticket and not make the mistake of thinking,'Oh, I won't bother this time,' will remember how wonderful it was.

Possibly my favourite Kate song, such melody, Kate and band in perfect harmony.

Kate, you are simply the greatest female performer there ever was.

    Love from

    Bigmagic

    xx

  • Wonderful combination of Classic-music and PopRock-music.

  • Wow....I really prefer this performance to her crazy dance numbers. Here we can see just how talented she really is!!!!!!

  • Simply wonderful. A goddess.

  • fantastic!!!!!!!1

  • she was the sexiest woman alive (yeah now she's nearly 50)! I don't need to talk about her musical talent and her w-o-n-d-e-r-f-u-l songs... we all knowm them!

  • Well as a fan for thirty years, I just love this woman. She is the reason why I bought a colour tv in 1977, just to see her red dress and hair in the Wuthering Heights film clip.

She is simply spectacular and I still watch her videos over and over and over and over again! Thank God for Youtube!!

  • Where does this TV recording come from ?

  • Comment removed

  • @Cicilo1983 from a TV broadcast titled "Kate" featuring a number of songs from her and one from her friend Peter Gabrel performed "live" in front of a studio audience, xmas 1979.

  • this is fantastic

    FROM BRAZIL

  • Trois Gymnopedies of Eric Satie..love it..it soothes my soul

  • @muratapo21

    me too!!

  • Pretty vid in so many senses...

  • the package doesn't always have to be wrapped in flesh.

  • there's nothing abstract about sexiness these days. And that says a lot about our intellect as a society. all sex relates to nothing more than carnal desires. no association with love, beauty, gentleness, confrontational honesty or spirituality.

  • a beautiful mind, indeed! ...

  • Oh, Kate.

  • I became sick, sick of everyone saying how sexy Madonna was. This song is 1 million times sexier than any fake orgasm Madonna tried to pull-off.

  • havnt heard this before, kinda grabed me, but i knew v opening bars melody. if this was live it was very good, cheers.

  • franchement...je pense que c'est un play-back. la chanson n'en est pas moins belle.

  • Amazing find - thank you.

  • Perfection.

  • Everytime I hear her, I love her even more!

  • @SpankRamen2 Me too

  • The intro is Erik Satie's genius (Gymnopédie No. 1), the song is Kate Bush's.

  • This is like floating on a beautiful cloud above all the cares of the world

  • I love this song anyway and love hearing her "live" performance

  • Beautiful song, beautifully sung. The painter Wilson in Philip Leslie's novel 'The History of Us' does his best work to this track.

  • Beautiful x

  • I love this woman's work and I love her too!!!

  • I think I'm going to have this song played at my memorial.

  • I can relate to this song so much! Thank you for singing about what we're thinking Kate :-)

  • spend a lot of my time loking for god music, I allwais find in kate bush since hes fist album. kate for ever

  • Its not just the look and the sound, she plays your emotions at the same time- that is art. Amazing lady

  • Happy birthday Kate!!

  • eric satie gymnopeides no 1

  • @gammypage Thank you :)) I was looking for the name of the intro and knew if I browsed through the comments that somebody would know.

  • This is all about Kate's 'terrible fear of dying" which she manages to drive away 'the more [she] thinks about sex"

How does she sing so beautifully about such things, while most others struggle with coherence...?

  • she is not a "pop star' she just wants to make music , Kate doesn't want fame ,she just makes music . She is not out to impress anyone... just listen to her CD's and appreciate a BRILLIANT unique ARTIST... her albums are ALL made by her in her own studio, she aint no Kylie or Madonna she dont need to flash her ass to get anywhere , she has talent and doesnt need 100's of people around her or any exposure , she is the one and only KATE BUSH !!!!!!!

  • She is and always was a completely individual aberration at the time when fame was the be all and end all. I remember she was slated by the newspapers at the launch of The Kick Inside, because she kissed every man in the queue to buy it. She said it was in appreciation of men who were buying an album for and about women. She didn't know the reporters were there, she actually kissed one..

  • Since i was a child i have loved and appreciated this lady,a rare artist indeed. SHEER BRILLIANCE.

  • wish I'd been in that queue!

  • Kate is a precious person!

  • i love her so much , her work is brilliant !!

  • that was the best rant ever :D

  • @PirateSkip4 Damn Straight!!

  • she has a beautiful insanity

  • Beautiful

  • It's Satie

  • She is just incredible, she was and still is incredibly beautiful and man what a talent!

  • Io ci perdo la testa, sembra un cesto di morbidi gattini, è una favola, un sogno, troppo fantastica per essere umana.......

  • You watch this lovely performance and it breaks my heart that it's unlikely that she'll ever tour again. I've heard a rumour that she's back in the studio with Del Palmer again so maybe some we may get some new material.

  • Kate Bush. Words cannot describe how perfect she is. So I won't try. I shall sit here and be amazed by her...time and time again...

  • She's amazed me for the last 20 years and have yet to find a female singer that matches her talent.

  • is there any live recording I can hear to? I'm starting to think she was an studio singer!

  • This is a live recording.

  • She's using that directional mic and sometimes she's not even looking at it. I find hard to believe this audio could be from this live recording, at least I think so ...

  • Yeah, as I watch it over a few more times, I think you are right... The live piano and other intruments seem to be there though, if I'm listeng right. Maybe they dubbed in her studio vocals later...?

  • However, there are quite a bit of live performances of her out there. Her voice is always perfect, but usually the sound recording methods were flawed, unfortunately. Were you looking for this one in particular?

  • @troyincanada There isn't any femle singer that can match her!

  • @troyincanada any singer full stop :D

  • @troyincanada have you been looking hard enough ? :) Try Tori Amos , PJ Harvey or Laurie Anderson

  • @Tiloczek I love Tori, but it is so obvious how much she has been influenced by Kate. I have no problem with that. Just saying. I am glad to see someone carry on a beautiful style like that.

  • @zack11993 You know let me tell you something: That was the smartest sentence ever.

  • super,wspaniale

  • She's SO fantastic. Love You Kate.

  • I love Kate Bush.

  • "For now I know that I'm needed for the symphony."

    Wow. That's Great???

Kind of begs the question though, what, if anything, am I needed for??

Look how happy she looks knowing that she's going to live forever, while the rest of us schmucks with no talent or looks die like miserable swine.

Love her anyway, and mean it from the bottom of my heart when I say that her music has certainly brought a lot of richness to my dreary existence.

Thank you Kate, for being talented and eternal.

  • you think you're a nobody. But I think you simply are not aware or conscious of your true value and power.

  • are you conscious of yours?

that IS a good point - Kate is conscious of hers - who wouldn't celebrate that?

  • Yes, I am...though the nature of my value and power changes with age, environment etc.

Does your SN have something to do with Demeter?

  • yes it does!! i want to change my sn now, though, without signing up for a new membership. i wonder if that's possible?

i'm not really sure of my value to others or the universe exactly, but i am sure that i value many, many of the moments in my life, the bad and the good.

living and learning has a lot of value to me, and my feeling is that what ever value i may have to others is expressed in a piecemeal fashion and not readily discernible.

    can you articulate your value?

  • Beautiful beautiful voice!!!

  • This is one of my favorite songs. I wish this was a real live performance but it's nice to see her perform even if it's lip syncing.

  • i think the bass player would argue your comment. This IS in fact a live performance.

  • I hate to dissapoint you (or the bass player?) but this is not a live performance. The giveaway is the vocal presence staying the same despite her going on and off mic constantly. Not to mention the backing vocals being Kate herself and her hands not moving for the first bar of the piano intro. The recording differs from the album but it was not uncommon to have different mixes for tv performances. She most certainly could have performed this live but the show probably wasn't equipped for it.

  • There were background singers, if you look at more video's of 'Kate: The Christmas Special' you can see them standing there.

  • Yes, there is also an entire band. That doesn't mean they are actually playing live. Listen to the background vocals at 2:48. That's Kates backing vocals from the record. They are lip syncing and pretending to play to a prerecorded track. It is a very common thing to do. I love Kate Bush.

  • ya it's a pity she seldom does live singing... when she does though it's so darn awesome

  • It's not a live recording unfortunately. She did record it, but the TV programme makers decided to dub the prerecorded track over the video for some reason.

  • A bit of trivia: the guys in the violin suits are her brother Paddy and a friend.

  • Kate always seemed to be having so much fun when playing with her K T Bush band .

  • A note; the first minute of this is "Gymnopedie No. 1" by Eric Satie.

  • Fantastique! Magnifico! This woman cured me of my depression induced insomnia and paranoid schizophrenia! Literally! She soothed me with her lyrics and music, and brought me back to health! I LOVE THIS WOMAN!!!!!!!

  • exactly , me too , different kind of medicine

  • The correct title is: "Symphony in Blue"

    without the 's' :)
