i know bones are very beneficial to dogs but my dog has this habit of swallowing big chunks of food kinda like a goose would do instead of chewing or ripping smaller pieces off of it.at first i thought i dont give him enough credit but i tried giving him bones about the same size as the dogs in the video have and i ended up having to pull the whole thing out of his windpipe cause he was choking on it
@TheChainsOFMisery You know, theres always one! The rule is, give big chunks so they have to break it down into swallowable pieces which 99% of dogs do naturally without thinking... it's in their nature. Dogs do bolt their food, again it's their nature to do so but If your dog just can't adapt then stick to raw tripe and minced meat on the bone waste to still get balance in the diet and the amazing health benefits. Hope this helps.
yeah when i first got my pup i went to the pet store and they highly recommended taste of the wild they said it was everything that all of the other product weren't so ive been feeding her it for about8 months now but then i came across your videos and new i had to make the change, thank you very much
ok so i just got back from the store and bought a weeks worth of raw food i bought chicken thighs, marrow bones and fresh beef honeycomb tripe they didnt have green tripe i went to several stores so i finally settled with the honeycomb is that going to be an issue with my dogs diet.
@DemonorAngelx4 Hi and well done for taking control of what your dog eats. Honeycomb tripe comes from the reticulem or second stomach chamber of a ruminant such as a cow which is just fine but it must be raw and uncooked. Is it bleached or white looking (which I'm presuming this is). This makes it nutritionally useless for your dog. Look for the green stuff on the net?
The rest is fine.
Yes we'd all like a taste of the wild but not out of a packet-incredulous!
@DemonorAngelx4 Walmarts fine, just get clean meat on the bone ie not meat that has been preserved in any way. They always do soon to be expired deals, so between them and the butcher you can feed very cheaply and better than over priced premium kibbles/canned.
well my dog is about 55 pounds a year old and i feed her "taste of the wild" with a meaty bone or two a week and my mom throws in an orange every day i want to switch to raw i just cant find a local butcher that i trust i know of one but it doesnt look like its a very clean place and i already asked them if they had green tripe and they didnt even know what it was
@DemonorAngelx4 That was quick! "taste of the wild"... marketing hype I'm afraid. Yes make that full switch, make a world of differnce. Dont worry too much about the cleanliness of the establishment, as long as the meat/bones are not foul it's fine (a dogs stomach acids are very strong). The tripe you may have to find online.
hi i really enjoy your videos i have a question about feeding my dog an orange because i want to know if it is okay to give it an orange daily because its been about two weeks and my mom has been giving my dog an orange everyday as a treat my dog loves them but i want to know if there are any long term damages that it would do, please reply thank you and godbless
@DemonorAngelx4 Hi, Thanks for the thumbs up. About this orange... a whole one each day? How bigs the dog? I'd say it's ok if the rest of the diet is raw based? Let me know some more details on the overall diet.
thank you very much i really want to give my dog the best food available i do have one more question tho; raw meat and bones with green tripe should i feed her this every day if so is there anything else i should give her like vegtibles fruit ect...
@PUEBLO707 Hi, Just one meat & bone type each day...and just the one meal daily, eg. Mon: Chicken, Tues: Lamb, Weds: Tripe etc. If your using tripe several times a week then this will cover your veg needs. If giving a little fruit just go by what your dog likes. The core elements of the diet are the meat-on-bone and tripe.
i have a question is there any type of raw meat or raw bone that are not healyth for a dog(pitbull) i went down to my local butcher and asked him if he had any scraps of meat and bone so i can feed my dog and he gave me a bunch of meat and bones for free i want to give them to my dog but the bones just look so big and shiney i dont want my dog to choke and die...what do you think i got her on puppy chow
@PUEBLO707 Hi, if you can get mainly the scraps with plenty of meat attached ie chicken frames, lamb ribs, pork trotters ect, it's better than the big shiny beef knucles and shanks. Like any marketing hype (now they have human puppy chow!!?) it's garbage. Your pup needs raw now and they are adept at handling bones by 10 weeks of age.
All you need is at the butcher even butchers rough mince (made from scraps) other than this get raw green tripe-great stuff.
greetings! what are you opinions on the walmart 'raw dog bones' such as the knee caps, knuckles, hooves, and larger bones. they look like something cut strait off the cow or bison or something.
i have a young female rottie and want to give her the best chewing experience, but im worried about splintering more then having too much sugar or something.
@karooyomitoheagato Hi, if they are not preserved in any way and just frozen then fine. As long as the bone is raw and either frozen or fresh from the butcher or other meat counter it's fine and no need to worry about splintering as raw bones are generally just fine. Just watch your dogs enthusiasm to check she's easy going with it. 99.9% of dogs know what they are doing with bones... they're not stupid! The stories that get peddled about invariably involve hardened cooked bones.
@karooyomitoheagato Raw feeders generally avoid what are known as weight bearing (rec) bones, cut bones, and bare bones. These bones you are describing sound like all of these things, so I would generally avoid them. When feeding bones it is best to feed raw MEATY bones, meaning the bone is covered in a decent amount of meat. It's OK to give rec bones as something to chew on, supervised, but NOT to be consumed. Eating bare bones can cause your dog to have an intestinal blockage or constipation.
@candidomoreno666 Hi, yes dogs love what comes natural to them, they can feel the positive effects of the food after consumption as it makes them energised. The big reason dogs will consume highly processed food from cans and packets is because the food is artificially enhanced to fool the senses with artificial flavors, palability enhances and a host of E-numbers. Does not make them feel the same way after and another days chemical attack on the immune system leading to future health problems.
I have personally removed raw bones from the throat and stomach of a dog. Raw bones are not risk free. I'm not going to tell you can't or shouldn't give your dog a bone (I give my own dog occaisional 'recreational' bones), I believe there is likely some benefit to the mechanical grinding action that chewing on them provides. Also, there is a 'mental' aspect of it that can be important for some dogs, but recognize that they do come with risks, and some dogs just can't take them.
@ibycus314 Hi thanks for stopping by to comment. One dog in perhaps a thousand will get it wrong, life carries risk for all of us. Compare this to half of all dogs having a miserable tim on commercially fed diets with disasterous outcomes. One example is cancer hitting 1 out of every 2 dogs over the age of 10!. Thats where millions of dogs will end up from a life spent on mush laced with additives. Dogs although tough have sensitive body systems that only raw food compliments period.
@danscott888 I appreciate you taking the time to reply to my comments. A lot of people in your position would just ignore them, rather than engage in a discussion. I have to take issue with your stats though. I would hardly call "1 out of every 2 dogs on commercial food" miserable. The vast majority of dogs presenting at any given vet clinic are healthy and presenting for checkups. Similarly, take a look around the dog park. What fraction of dogs there would you classify as 'sick'?
@ibycus314 Fair point and I said 'miserable' and meant older dogs as commercial food ingested for years has played havoc with their system. Dogs never show their missery as they live in the now. Example: I too see a lot of dogs and the state of their teeth and gums in general is shocking. This condition is in my opinion responsable for most of the later diseases that dogs suffer from as gum disease allows toxins into the blood stream to infect organs etc.
@ibycus314 BTW If all dogs ate a raw food diet 9 out of 10 health problems would not exist in my opinion. I have healed many dogs with many complaints, all through diet. The power of mere 'food' is incredible as the animal is now getting the right LIVE nutrients to the required cells for healing, immune system support and general body maintenance and without the burden of synthetic additives which the body just cant process.
Always open to debate, thanks for pushing-it's all about dog health.
Thank you for having such important information available to the widely public. Take care and have a wonderful time. ♥Friends for the love of Animals♥
@LoveOfAnimals Hi Bob, thankyou for your support on such an important subject. Bones are the fundamental "staff of life" for dogs, so so important with powerful healing properties and vigorous teeth cleaning. Peoples fear around bones is self made, fermented by vets and the commercial dog food producers-the dog its self is absolutely fine no issues at all, would just get on and chew them up naturally and become very very healthy. Dogs are'nt stupid let them decide!
finally someone with some sense i work in a pet store and try to convert everyone to a barf diet consisting of muscle meat offal (liver heart kidney) 15% crushed vegetable matter and raw meaty bones its hard though everyone is so convinced that dry kibble is the best thing out there because there vet tells them it is anyway ill keep trying i have some success
@Doomspoon1 Hi and thanks for the thumbs up. "Sense" can be in short supply when vets advocate kibble as the best. While vets are great animal doctors, sadly their nutrition knowledge is extreamly limited. "Because the vet said so" is just not good enough when profit is involved, this is a clear case of conflict of interest.
It's funny, we consult human nutritionists as advised by our doctors but for our cats and dogs we rely on a vet acting as salesman on commision!!! If only dogs could speak!
@Yvonnesings Hi, yes in a nutshell thay have formed from too much mineral salts in the urine and IMHO these salts have built up from all the excess minerals added to commercial dog food plus other additives put in without any real understanding of nutritive canine needs-why do you think dog urine kills lawn grass?
Feed a natural diet and all becomes well again-simple really. Go to my blog and start there-your dog will love you for it : )
@RawFedSkye Hi, raw turkey necks are just fine. Love Bichons, smart, quick and fun. I know a Bichon that takes down rabbits, doves and Squirrels! They are a tenacious dog very much in-touch with their primal past. I know a small Bichon bitch-the litter runt, she has no problems with Chicken drumsticks, tripe, chicken necks and the odd Lamb chop.
Also try Lamb breast/brisket-rubbery bones, pork belly, pork trotter and any vegetable or fruit your dog takes a fancy to. NO tapwater, filtered only.
Oops pushed post too soon. That's amazing about that hunting Bichon. LOL. Mine would just play with the squirrels if he caught up with them. :) I feed Sky raw green tripe often, never tried raw drumsticks... hmm. Thanks for the great tips!
@KRSchannel Hi, that's fantastic! yes it's great to see the dogs coat start to get really glossy and smell free, reminds me of when they are a pup... hugging becomes a delight. Now your on three days a week you might as well go the whole week and remember to make at least one fast day each week giving the body a chance to rest and replenish the immune system, makes your dog stronger for it.
@danscott888 how do you calculate the amount of meat with bone to feet different type of dog or puppy? I have a 16 week old golden retriever and I give me 2 bones of chicken legs everyday and two bones of goat meat, which he eats, and finishes, but I don't know if its enough for him?
@KRSchannel As I state in my book it depends on energy levels and body weight. For your puppy at 16 weeks feed twice per day at around 5% to 10% for the day depending on the dogs energy levels.ie low energy and calm/docile to high energy and excited/frenetic. There Should be a thin fat covering to ribs. What your doing sounds pretty good, add in a little vegetable matter occasionally or some raw green tripe.
@KRSchannel Try crushing, pulping or grating some raw carrot or any veggie you eat yourself. The idea of breaking down the vegetable is to enable your dog to extract the nutrients from the exposed cells as dogs do not have gastric or salival juices to breakdown vegetables but may benefit from their inclusion in the diet.
Ive been on the edge of switching to the raw diet for weeks now and Im finally going to give it a try. I was wondering on just how much to feed my two dobermann? I walk them atleast an hour a day... and the ratio between bone and meat? Our local super market had a butcher and they sell the 'unworthy' cuts of meat and bone for less then a dollar a package.
@wolfstardoberman Hi, Good for you, your dogs will not look back. Quantity depends on age, weight, energy levels. The average for an adult dog of medium energy & correct weight is around 2/3% of body weight p/d in one meal. Mix the meat and bone around 50/50. The cheap sell-off cuts sound good. To really get the full lowdown from A to Z get my book from the blog (book tab) Tons of how to, details, tips and charts... even a resource section. Best of luck, stay in touch.
@ZETASPRODUCTIONS Hi, a dog will get pretty much all it needs from meat, bone, offal and a little vegetable matter-thats it! This is light years ahead of commercial dog food and contains the natural elements your dog needs for great health and a strong immune system.
@godsfiddler Hi, contaminated meat is a non issue, something for vets & dog food industry pundits to grab onto. Your dogs stomach contains acids much more powerful than ours and kills bacteria on entry, that's why dogs can get into the trash or eat at dead maggot ridden squirrels in the park without upset. They are tough animals but not where multiple synthetic drugs in commercial dog food are concerned-this breaks down their immune system and leads to chronic illness and cancer. Check my book.
I started my APBT and both of my english bull terriers on raw diet...It's great!
They get full faster than they did with kibble.I used to be afraid of feeding them raw meat and bones,my vets always told me it was bad for them. What else can they say?...That's why pet food companies sponsor many vet schools...to lie to us!
@ZETASPRODUCTIONS Hi there, Your absolutely right! and thankyou for posting your comments, they are very much appreciated. Once dog owners understand just how unsuitable commercial dog food is and the illnesses it brings about they will take the opportunity to get their loved family pets onto healthy wholesome REAL dog food and never look back.
But how much raw meat should a dog eat at one meal? I got one medium size poodle, 2 chihuahua pups and one big ol labrador female. We call her "mamma", she's a chunkster.
Wow great mix of dogs! That's a lot of detail to go into here for all these dogs. I've replied to you re 'Mamma' but really just get my ebook, it's all in there and then you've got the whole lot covered.

To really get the full lowdown from A to Z get my book from the blog (book tab) Tons of how to, details, tips and charts... even a resource section. Best of luck, stay in touch.

@wolfstardoberman I've read that a raw diet should be: 80% meat, 10 % organs and 10% bones. (If you don't feed veggies or anything else)

Is fiber a need on dog diet??If so,how can I introduce fiber without ''violating'' the raw diet???

@ZETASPRODUCTIONS Hi, a dog will get pretty much all it needs from meat, bone, offal and a little vegetable matter-thats it! This is light years ahead of commercial dog food and contains the natural elements your dog needs for great health and a strong immune system.

Like I said in another video, we are seriously thinking of raw. I'm wondering about contaminated meat. Is this an issue on raw?
godsfiddler 1 year ago

Does this Actually stop dogs from vomiting and things like that?
Agelesslegend23 1 year ago
Hi again, Dogs vomit for various reasons, but if your dogs vomit up commercial dog food then yes this will most likely stop.

wow, thanks for the knowledge!
I'm going to try that.
But how much raw meat should a dog eat at one meal? I got one medium size poodle, 2 chihuahua pups and one big ol labrador female. We call her "mamma", she's a chunkster.

Hi, sorry for the late reply.
Wow great mix of dogs! That's a lot of detail to go into here for all these dogs. I've replied to you re 'Mamma' but really just get my ebook, it's all in there and then you've got the whole lot covered.
