Look bottom line we choose to live the way we do. We chose to sign the honor code. Its a contract, we agree to live the way that our leaders believe is the best for our future in return for the best education they can provide. With every contract there are consequences, if you break your side of the agreement then you face the consequences, thats life. If you were to break a legal contract you'd be sued, so by your logic being sued is also a dictatorship? No.

The reason BYU is not a dictatorship is simple. You have the choice to go there. You have a choice whether or not to sign and live by the honor code. BYU is a private university. They have the right to set their rules. Like it or not, BYU is owned and operated by the LDS Church, and thus the institution, its employees, and students represent the LDS church.
If one chooses to go to BYU they agree to accept the honor code. IF they don't want accept the HC, then they can go elsewhere.

As a matter of fact we subjugate ourselves to rules as a society all the time for the good of our country and to prevent anarchy.
