I am fairly new to backgammon, and i noticed when i play online or on a little handheld game i have, sometimes when i roll, my opponent steals my turn and rolls his dice! what is this and how can i prevent it / use it?
the most likely reason for this is that you don't have a cube action decision because the cube is either dead or held by your opponent and none of the numbers you rolled are playable or there is only one move possible and the software forced you to make it.
there is a legal "steal" in backgammon when you "steal a point" from your opponent. Its an advanced trick having to do with match score and getting your opponent to drop what should be a take thereby "stealing" a point. You can google it and read more if interested.

LOL I'm regular player on Fibs ( rated approx. 1870 at this time ) and I can tell you that , despite some 'unreal dice throws' once in a while, there's no cheating from the FIBS server : sometimes you get lucky , sometimes your opponent will, but on the long run, only the best players will be getting a significant edge over the others : with over 10,000 points played, I've already seen this sort of dice sequence quite a few times...
You are the one that's totally wrong Faz1983. At 0.25 the correct move is 6/off, 5/3.......and, at 0.56 regarding the 4-2 move, it makes absolutely no difference "equity wise" if you take 1 or 2 checkers off. Black played everything correctly.
The dice numbers that the computer choses or itself has nothing to do with math, although - in general - it is true that it can happen to have specific results when exactly you need them.
In the case of 3dfibs, the program choses, in each case, its favorite roll numbers and uses them. This is not backgammon, it is grand cheating. Imagine they use this program in games where real money is at stake.
An expert backgammon player always appears to be "very lucky". This is not cheating. It is a result of making the best checker play for each dice roll.
YES LIKE GETTING HIM HE GOT 3 PRISONERS all CLOSED BUT ON N HE GETS DBL 3 LAND ON GET U HE GOT 3 OPEN U DON'T LAND everygame can be fucked up easy at a crusial point given the right roll i know what this gane is but i'll play with most people for money on a REAL game but few i know in person i usedto play with for money in beirut ncyprus n greece yahoo n others asre FUCKED FIXED TOTALLY THE REST IS BS i play real games n theyn the better player will win simple
I agree with you, "it's not about winning or losing, it's about doing the best you can with what you got." I have had a lot of fun by playing this way with my wife. And hell, f*ck math, here it's just opportunity to laugh. (sorry my bad english)
The thing I hate about online backgammon is people complaining about how the dice are not random blah blah. Learn math. Random does not mean each roll comes around every 36 or anything close to that. The chances of 4 doubles is about 1/1300 you'll see it every few games. This scenario the hero had about 1/12000 chance of winning by rolling 2 high doubles and then double not aces, and another double, and the opponent rolling no doubles.
So even though the chances of this whole sequence of events was low, the point is the dice don't remember what they rolled last time, so on the last roll he needed doubles to win and had the same 1/6 chance as any other roll to be doubles.
MAN U HAVE 2 ON THE 1N 3 GIVES U 2 1 N THE OTHER PLAUER DBLE 6 U HAVE EVERYTHING CLOSED BUT THE ONE FIRST ROLL HE GETS DBLE ON LANDS GETS U N CLOSES 3 WITH 3 OPEN U WILL LAND after he took most of his stones fixed as hell the rest is BS unless there is a side u pay to play it will never be Random rolls all the care is more players = more adds money FA else years ago all the top players as were displayed by yahoo were greeks turks arabs try now n see the BS rolls yahoo dishes out
come to play on fibs. There are many good players and you can play against world class bots of which there are many all are rated 1900+. As for playing on a real board, you can set gnubg to input numbers from real dice that you throw yourself and it will still play a good game and win just as many games as it did with random dice it generates. The dice rolls are not based on the position. It just looks that way. BG is crazy like that.
BUT random does Not mean u get the roll to do the most damage at crucial points of the game n they get the right ones i had 3 IDs on yahoo gti355 one with my real name n gti 255 all in the red bansd withing weks of playing But Now all of a sudden i can't play its BS man fixed like her 255 i was so si discusted with their ro9lls just kept resigning the other 2 still have over 1900 points each but no 3 or 4 to 1 win ration now its LL FUCKED UP NOW FOR MONEY MORE MONEY MORE ADVERT MONEY
at 56 seconds black played totally wrong should have eaten two rather than playing the two dice and at 25 seconds 2:2 could have been played better thus, winning black the game
It is possible that taking 2 off with the 22 roll at 0:25 could have won the game but I think it would be the wrong play. Usually best to keep the board closed and bear off from the rear. At 0:56 there is an odd number of checkers left (9) so taking 1 off or 2 off still leaves 4 rolls to bear off the rest. Most human players will take 2 off but the computer program only checks winning chances and if they are both the same, picks whichever move is handy.
I paly backgammon online as well and I do not think the randomness of the rolls is that random if you understand what I mean. Over 10 doubles during a game are not very rare and I experienced that on several servers.
No, it was a real game played on FIBS. Recorded the play back on the desktop. I was a click away from resigning (99%+ after the 6-5 roll) I got a good laugh on that final 4-4 roll. Unfortunately my opponent was a bot so I didnt get the full benefit of Schadenfreude but it was still fun.
This is what makes backgammon such a fascinating game. Even though the dice are random, sometimes they take on a personality as if they know what the position entails. It is a perfectly designed game.
at 0:55 why did balck not take out his 2? That move made no sense.
