  • I had one that was the Emp 5010. It worke great on SSB but it was a whimp on AM. The older Uniden 2510 will blow it totaly away in all areas of performance...........

  • @TheZeke1974 Might have been something wrong with yours because these radios and the TS-5010 are mostly a HR2510/President Lincoln with some differences is all. I find the ANL and NB aren't to great on my 9001 but other than that it works just as good and sounds the same on the air as my late version Lincoln and old version 2510, even on AM. 73's Paul

  • @TheZeke1974 I do remember the quality control on the TS-5010's be very spotty back in the day when they were new. I can't say on the Alan 9001 because I don't remember them being largely available here in the U.S. Since they use the long discontinued MRF477 as the 5010's I would assume they were made in the same time period and likely came out of the same plant. Neither the Alan or the Emperors give the country of manufacture. I remember us joking about that back in the day.

  • cool radio

  • @CbBrOwAr Thank you.

  • This is my radiostation. I love it ))

  • @toxatt2 They are nice rigs. I do wish the ANL and NB worked better on them.

  • Nice rig...

  • @teamfab Thank you.

  • Since your radio puts out over 30 watts on ssb does that mean you can't use an amp with it?

  • @gforce4all No it depends on the amp. Some like an Ameritron AL-811 or most four transistor amps without a drive section can handle that input just fine. There is an internal ALC where you can set the radio at a lower output on SSB for a low drive amp.

  • @262NagantRadios Thank's for the info.I was just wondering because i have a 5010 and I wanted to run it with a small 2 pill amp.I would have to get the pep down to around 2 or 3 watts.Don't know if the alc in these radios will drop that far.

  • @gforce4all I don't know if they will turn down that much and if they did I have a feeling they wouldn't sound right. What sort of amp requires only 2 or 3 watts?

  • I had an Emp ts 5010. Great on SSB but it SUCKED on AM.....

  • @TheZeke1974 Sorry to hear that. Mine works great on AM with a Turner Super Sidekick. It's not blaring loud on AM but I get compliments on how clean and crisp it sounds.

  • @262NagantRadios Yeah it was a lemon. I will never own another. I have my late uncles HR 2510 and it works GREAT on BOTH AM and SSB! I had "Doc" in NY State rework the radio and he did a GREAT job!!!
