  • I loved the 4th this year, but then the last space shuttle launched and there goes that American dream...I, like you, went back to my cynical ways of thinking. Then two high schools friends were shot down in a chinook helicopter in Afghanistan. They were good guys...they gave their lives for you, and for me. So I will fully take advantage of the fireworks next year. Hopefully you will, too.

  • My birthday is on bonfire night and ive never like fireworks

  • My birthday is on the fourth. I always felt like I was being overshadowed by my own country... I'm just kidding but great video.

  • THAT WAS DEEEEEEP.

  • You should come to New Zealand, Its freeking awesome here! :)

  • This vlog made me think of a John Green thoughts from places. You were very eloquent :)

  • New Zealand is a nice place..

  • @wierdowalsh I mean this in the most respectful way. Please watch you language, people don't generally like to be cussed at, and personally it makes me want to just keep going. Luckily I had decided to let it go before you commented.

  • Only 235, makes me feel old

  • The very large boxes with Harry Potter written on them in the background are quite distracting...

  • Your videos usually make me happy, but the beginning kinda ruined 4th of july for me, even if you did say happy things after it.

  • we couldnt have anything like this in britain. you get branded a racist for just having the union flag in the window, believe me.

  • I love the fourth of July and I think it's kind of unfair that people, when they're critical of parts of our country, to say "America" as if it's really the country's fault.

The solution is simple, at least from where I sit: elect better representatives to positions of government! Ah, the beauty of democracy!

  • It is funny to look at this because, as I am german, I never celebraited ANY country, because we just don't do that in germany, look in your history books for reasons. But i think it is a quite good thing to do, as you realise one night that you are all part of one community and one group and that you all belog together, in a wired, crazy way. I like that, i am kind of missing this feeling in germany, but that might just be me.

  • On Independence Day you just need to be proud of your country, of all of its achievments, because you have a whole year afterwards to complain about it xD

  • I totally agree with you, Kayley...I went to my boyfriend's family and their celebration...and it must have been 10 families who bought like a $200/$300 dollars of fireworks apiece and I kept thinking "I'm studying abroad this fall, and all this fire in the sky is more than enough to pay for it *sob*"

  • I use the 4th to remind myself of all those who tried to make a better country, a better life and a better world for everyone. Then I am reminded that that is now my mission as well. USA - still a great idea! Happy birthday!

  • I must ask is Tardistacular reviewing Torchwood Miracle Day cuz I have to say it was freaky at times.

  • I feel slightly envious watching this video. As a white- Australian, the only 'birthday' my country celebrates (Australia Day) is the date the white settlers landed in Australia- and considering all that happened as a result of that, it's not something I feel like celebrating.

  • If you like reading. . . (i don't know because I'm a new subscriber to your channel) but you should read GONE by Michael Grant! - Then make a vlog about it! PLEASE!?!?!?!? - Did I mension that I subscribed?!?!!? :D

  • great video! I feel the same way, and it really made me understand the fourth of july and enjoy it more.

  • Hahaha! I never thought about that! I'll never look at fireworks the same way again!

  • A very nice video, the voiceover is really good!

  • After this video I spent about half an hour trying to guess what could possibly be in that harry potter box hidden in your cupboard.

  • I agree with you (not that I'm american :P) that I never used to like fireworks. When they were finished I always saw the smoke afterwards and felt bad for the ridiculous amounts of pollution they created. But now, I try to tamp down on that guilt, because it's not like it's going to change and at least if I enjoy the fireworks, they might not have polluted in vain x

  • you don't like fireworks?!...... That's it ...The Wedding is OFF!

  • Independence Day always makes me appreciate this country, and everything that it has accomplished. It's the one day that I stop and look around and think "This is a beautiful place."

  • I never really thought about it, but it's true that it brings people together. This Fourth of July for some reason practically half of my church ended up sitting in roughly the same spot to watch the fireworks. It was kind of cool seeing people who don't normally interact with each other talking to each other about their days and what not.

  • I feel the same way =). I'm really environmentally aware, so sometimes ways that other people celebrate celebrate special occasions really rubs me the wrong way. But at the same time.... there is something magnificent to look up and see gorgeous colors exploding across the sky, and feeling is huge sense of pride for all the good things my country stands for. <3

  • The sky is full of red balloons... *sings*

  • I'm not form the US (form the UK) but I sometimes think of this on bonfire night. The money could be put to much better use. Although, I think this tradition will carry out in plenty more years to come. I can't see people not celebrating with fireworks in the future, well not our future.

However, the community gathers together to watch the fireworks and lots of money is donated to charity so some good comes out of it.

  • @owlssayhoot Touché. No disrespect intended :)

  • I think you are overestimating the forces "tearing apart" the US. I don't know how you formed this opinion, but the United States for all its faults is a very unified nation. Using the words "torn apart" is a bit drastic. I feel as though you see other nations through rose-coloured lenses, but the United States is a much more unified place than for which you give it credit.

  • @juliaforyourthoughts I didn't mean actually torn apart. I mean torn apart in the sense that everyone is constantly tearing apart every move they make and picking it to pieces and overanalysing it. And usually hating it. A bit like how you're over analysing a random two words in a youtube video. xD

  • This video was quite good. I think John and Hank would be proud!

  • You were at Gasworks too! Ah the Lake Union show is so amazing. However, I too couldn't help but grimace over how much it must have cost. Good luck with the Final Cut Pro :]

  • I like to think that even though the fireworks are so expensive, at least the money is going to please so many who may not normally get to see big celebrations. It's also going into the economy & not just being locked up in some rich person's account for generations.

I wasn't in the States for this 4th. I had spent the morning petting kangaroos when my friend pointed the date out to me-strange feeling. I've never been overly patriotic but the 4th is my favorite holiday because it's so uniting.

  • It's a shame, we could never do such celebration in my Country... :(

Noones a proud German without automatically beeing a Nazi..

  • It is a shame, I studied Nazism after learning about my favorite Nobel Prize winner (Kandel) he was 8 years old when the Nazi soldiers forced him and his family out of the apartment and move in with someone else. He was later taken to the Americas because his father was a soldier in WWI. Kandel stated that before the Nazis, Germany was a place of great art : music, paintings it had culture and most of the Jewish people contributed to that culture...if only people could loose their prejudice..:(.

  • @Coffeeisnecessary Yeah, I wish people could, well, not forget the past but at least not associate being German with being Nazi :(

  • I live in New Zealand...XD

    It's not that foreign...or is it? ;)

  • To Americans, New Zealand is foreign! I remember back when NZ released some commercial for KFC and everyone in Texas got mad because they didn't know that New Zealanders didn't have that negative stereotype that Americans have.

  • @Ferretgal200 Well, foreign just means any country that isn't ones own. Any country that is not America it technically foreign to America, haha.

  • Fireworks a pointless but I'm a pyro so I love them =)

  • Your town definitely has a better fireworks display than mine.

  • @hippiemarcher Well, those were Seattle's fireworks, not my towns.

  • @owlssayhooot Lol, ok. You might have said that in the video, I was having sound problems in the beginning.

  • The fireworks that you have on this video are wwaaayyy better then the fireworks I have in my town... hahaha

  • @RainbowAccent That's because they were downtown Seattle. :P

  • I've never though of fireworks that way! I guess it is because I'm young (ish), but they really are pointless. I do like to watch them though! Thanks for making this video to celebrate our country! All the haters need to run away.

  • I'm glad everyone can put their differences aside, for at least one day, and celebrate the birthday of their country.

  • hey so revelations yogurt is having a harry potter night for the midnight showing at the edmonds theatre! you should come! :D

  • i celebrate what this country stands for, more than what it is.

  • I really agree with you in this video. I went see fireworks with my best friend, boyfriend and sister this 4th of July. And while at first all I could think about was the pollution being needlessly shot into the air and the college scholarships that my town could've provided instead. By the end of them something about the way that my best friend's face lit up watching them and the vast amount of people in our community who had come to look up in the sky together and celebrate our country and th

  • Haters gonna hate. Good video. Thoughtful, but not too deep. Oh, and there were pretty colours too. :-)

  • That AWESOME moment when you want to watch this video and a Deathly Hallows ad comes first. ksjdhkfhsdjkf.

  • Wow, talking about the fireworks, you totally reminded me of Natalie (Tran)

  • There is a part of me that completely agrees with you about the cost of most fireworks displays, and another part that just watches and says "Oooh... pretty!"

    It's a fine line sometimes.

    ;-)

  • Kayley, your video raised a really good point about questioning what your country does and what it stands for. All countries have their good points and their flaws, including the good old US of A!

  • are you not going to re-dye your hair red? i noticed its turning brown/blonde !

either way you are beautiful but i was just wondering

  • @projectrunwei I can't really afford to constantly redye it. I redye it before big events or when I have the money.

  • "'Oh! Yup, that was my university tuition.'" That made me LOL. This video was really nice. I, personally, have never witnessed the celebration of the State's independence, because...well, cos I'm not from the States. It looks like fun, though. :) Glad you enjoyed doing whatever it is Americans do on Fourth of July, haha. I wish you the best of luck with FCP and all. May the Force be with you.

  • @SuperMCstudios ...The whole point of the video was about coming together and celebrating this country. The point of the video was honour the country. My god, did you even WATCH the full minute and a half before jumping down my throat and being rude? Maybe you should listen to people before coming to conclusions and assumptions.

  • Please don't be discouraged by small minded people who can't see past their own views. I am really into backstage work in the theatre, so I've become very aware of all the work you never see in entertainment, and I see a lot of work in this. Keep on working with Final Cut; I've heard so much good about it! There will always be someone who appreciates your point of view and the effort you put into videos for every hater or troll. Thank you for voicing your opinion: it's what this country need.

  • Hey Kayley, your blog post about the response to this video showed up in my RSS, but it was already gone when I tried to comment. I just wanted to apologize on the internet's behalf for all the hate you've gotten. Personally, I completely agree with you, though I find it increasingly hard to forgive this country's mistakes. When I watched the county fireworks show on Sunday, all I could think of was all the chemistry that went into fireworks instead of cancer research.

  • I'm Canadian and find this absolutely charming.

  • hey do you have twitter :D

  • I've always wondered what Americans think about America.... It just seems so big to me its hard to imagine being part of it, I love this video and how thought provoking it was :)

    Kayley; you are brilliant

    xox

  • but everyone isnt clubbing together to buy you a holiday, and it could equally be said of a lot of money waste

  • thats my favriout thing about certain holidays and soecial days of the year i like how everyone is closer in a senae :)

  • I really liked this video. :) Very thought-provoking, I love it. :]

Our town couldn't afford fireworks this year (we're very rural) but our parade had lots of tractors in it!

  • @theawesomepineapples when American's officially got their independence from Great Britain.

  • The colour of your walls is gorgeous :}

  • If I have to watch a frikking ebookers ad on a video one more time... -___-

No offence to you. I don't mind people having ads on their videos. I've just seen that ONE advert over and over again and it's getting so annoying.

  • excellent video

  • I honestly don't know why there's so much hate on this video, because what I see here is what Kayley often does in her videos: making something beautiful out of a celebration for a country that has a problem with excess (which understates it) - which I think is something beautiful in and of itself.

  • I was born in the same town as you and we always sort of made fun of our little town but then when summer comes and we go to the saturday market or the parade suddenly we remember how lucky we are and how awesome the little place we come from is. When I walk past the theater down to the beach, sometimes I cant help but think that Dumbledore would totally love it here. We live in our own little Godric's Hollow (sans the violence) and that makes me really happy.

  • PREMIER TOMOROW!! EXCITED!!! :)

  • the 4th was my birthday toooo! :')

  • I read on wikipedia the other day that Disneyland spends $30,000 EVERY SINGLE NIGHT just on Fantasmic alone.

  • Kayley, thank you so much for making this. I was feeling kind of apathetic about the fourth and this reminded me of how it can have meaning for me. I really appreciate it. Stay awesome.

  • haha, I SO said that Disney fireworks are the only good fireworks in my video! everything is better in Disney.

  • I noticed a lot of the same things. I wasn't fortunate enough to see any fireworks because of the camp that I'm working, but it was nice to just remember that it's not all bad in the country. There's a lot of good and community out there, no matter how much we are torn apart by [*ahem* @baddogonline *ahem*] partisan politics. Sometimes it takes celebrations like that to bring us back together.

  • People waste money all day long. When ever I see a movie and an entire building gets blown up or a car gets trashed, a small voice in my head says "What a waste". But they have the right to do what ever they want.

We give and give all the time and where do you draw the line? We could give more and forever and it still wouldn't be enough.

I say LIGHT UP THE SKY!!!!

  • I have the same feeling about fireworks BUT THEY'RE SO PRETTY.

  • I like the idea of the overlaying fireworks at 00:20. I would have made them all equally spaced across the width of the frame and feathered the edges. I would have made them slide in from the left and then fit into the space. So the first one would be full width the next one would slide in and they would both take half and then the next would slide in and they would all take a third of the width. You should have leveled the audio at the end. Good first FCP video. Hope you're having fun with it.

  • @vinnyrose That couldn't be done because all of them were centered, so they would have been covered. I had to crop and space them out in the way I did. Thanks!

  • Anyone else spot the Gryffindor tie in the background?

  • @rachelfrench1992 Lanyard, not tie :)

  • @owlssayhooot Ah, right. It looked like a tie haha :) I'll be wearing my Gryffindor tie next Friday :D

  • definitely a more impressive looking (with great content too) video than my first attempt at final cut.

  • I thought that this vlog was insightful. I'm not really sure why everyone is going crazy... I liked the way you edited it as well. I would call your first foray into final cut pro a success!

  • this reminds me of an old communitychannel video....

  • "It's easy to forget that anyone has a sense of nationality..." Not for outsiders, I do not know any other nation where the people are more patriotic than in USA(sometimes even bordering on insane amounts of patriotism)

  • I live in the UK, so I played diner dash all day for 4th of July.

  • I can't believe all the negative response this video is getting. Who cares about fireworks? Independence Day is not about fireworks, it's about a great achievement in this country. Kayley, I personally thought your views on the fourth were spot-on.

  • Hey Kayley. I watched this video yesterday and really enjoyed your thought provoking commentary about the fourth of July, but I didn't leave a comment. I rarely leave comments on thought provoking videos because they usually leave me thinking, and getting lost in thoughts, and I don't also have the follow through to write those thoughts down. I read your blog today, and would like you to know that your video is thought provoking and really enjoying to watch.

  • @goingforthegold "It's easy to forget what it was like to be a child and see this country as home." We are very blinded as children. Not knowing much besides what we are told. It's interesting how the fourth is a reminder of the blind allegiance, ignorant celebration. I only ever feel proud of the US when we voted Obama into office, or pass a bill of equality, or any law that helps people. I rarely feel proud on Independence day. I can see how that sense of community really resonated with you.

  • I too have been spoiled by Disney fireworks shows and often find the local ones pathetic by comparison. I loved you comment baout how much they cost. It isn't something that people think about too much. It is nice to put all that out of your head and enjoy the moment though.

  • When I've seen videos about independence day over the years, it's always surprised me that vloggers often say something along the lines of 'sorry to the British, I'm not trying to offend you' etc, because I never knew anyone here in the UK who vaguely resents the 4th July in America, or even recognises it as an issue: it's just an annual, community celebration.

So I'm really surprised at some of the comments reacting to this video: you highlighted the important aspects really effectively.

  • I imagine that if my birthday wasn't the fourth, I wouldn't care less about Independence Day, but since I was born then, my mother always made a big deal about it and kind of sucked me into it...

  • your thoughts are so beautiful (: loved the split-screen-fireworks bit too! ive had final cut for a few months now and i still have not figured that out...

  • Yay for Final Cut Pro! That is what I used in college to edit all my projects...I miss it now :/

  • I'm so excited for you to use more Final Cut stuff in your videos. :]

  • I had a similar experience with ‘The Royal Wedding’. The public were whipped up into a sort of patriotic frenzy, told to spend money on being patriotic for no real reason. We were encouraged to have street parties and to celebrate being British. Don’t get me wrong, I love my country, but I believe the days have gone where people would genuinely die for it. Maybe. That’s what I think anyway. I might have miss read you video.

  • @McKnowledge1000. No offence my dear fellow; but with atrocious grammar and spelling, like you've displayed right there, I'm not sure why you expect anyone to take your opinion seriously. Apart from your terrible use of the English language, all you've done here is make a massive tool of yourself by attempting to make a point through blunt sarcasm but failed miserably and then totally got owned by @owlssayhooot in a rebut. I'd think things over more thoroughly next time buddy.

  • Now I feel bad that we don't get an independence day. We just get to watch everyone else celebrating how amazing it is to *not* be part of our country...

  • Now that you say it that way...

  • lol im birthday is on the same day as americas indipendence day and even thougth i live in england i ve allways loved the fact that it is on the same day :)

  • Wooo go New Zealand! Love our little country!

  • This was quite a poignant video, for something that was actually pretty simple - although I don't understand why all the comments are getting het up about an opinion on fireworks. To me, this video was about unity, and the one weekend a year when a country gets together to say thank you.

Unfortunately, my country does this much less infrequently, and needs a vastly OTT wedding to pull together. And even then, the haters carry on hating.

  • I guess it's just like John Green once said, it's not just about decreasing suck levels, but it's also about increasing awesome levels.

  • I think I'm too disillusioned to come together and reflect on positive things about this country, although I did feel a sense of community yesternight as people of all ages and backgrounds stood together in the dark on the beach with their families, equally in awe of the fireworks, waves crashing behind us. Btw, I was brought here by your blog. I'm sorry people are stupid. I hope you feel better. <3

  • I'm not someone who feels very patriotic or gets excited when my country's national day comes around, but this makes me feel that I could, for one day, celebrate everything that makes my country and people the way they are - both the good and bad because no country is perfect and I belong to this one :)

  • @eddplant - i live in australia. we're like the worlds annoying youngest sibling.

  • Lol your country is only 235 years old

  • I liked the idea of this and the way you put it together. This country has many imperfections and flaws. For instance, the amount of money spent on fireworks. However, one day a year to recognize the good this country has done isn't too much to ask for. One day where people can think of all the wonderful things America has been a part of, what it has accomplished, what it's people have accomplished. I think you were right, it's bigger than us.

  • Kayley, you're of course welcome to use any of my music if you so please. <3

  • @officialravenzoe Aw, thanks Raven! Hope you're well! <3

  • Comment removed

  • @McKnowledge1000 I think you missed a few history lessons there, pal. Also, try actually listening to the video and you'll know that this wasn't some sort of "go team America" video. Keep your uneducated opinions elsewhere, please.

  • Comment removed

  • @McKnowledge1000 your a punk dip shit!!!

  • i'm english so... i don't really know how much it costs to support the day etc. Buuuut, i DO think it;s a good idea, ok, it has it's flaws yes, but england totally lacks any kind of patriotism. I think it's nice to see so many people be proud of their country :D And it's not as if they would actually spend the money they spend on that as care paclages being sent straight to africa. I hate the poverty in this world :'( but i;m still in favour of independance day ^__^

  • @TheElectricfish1001 totally know what you mean i was just in Australia and they too have more patriotism in one finger then we have in the entire country...what happened to this country to make it so jaded, i envy the u.s for their indepence day and how much they genuinely love being american.

  • I agree with everything you said. I hated seeing a lot of my Facebook friends writing that they're going to watch the fireworks. I even wrote as my status that that's money blowing up in the air. So dumb. But I do agree it does bring togetherness and pride. But all that money!!!! And people getting more drunk than usual. It makes me feel America is stupid lol

  • In my town's Fourth of July parade everyone booed the Governor as he passed by. It was actually rather amusing.

  • This is the beginning of the liberal's ideological-war on Independence Day; it's the same tactics used in their war on Christmas. The liberal-control freaks tell us it's offensive to use the word 'God' or 'Jesus' in the public arena. Now, we are supposed to feel guilty for celebrating our existence on the planet. More profit was made at the celebration than was spent on the fireworks; jobs were created, people were employed, and Americans were happy. Why must liberals always try to control us?

  • @baddogonline Are you SERIOUS? "Liberal's ideological-war on Independence Day"?! Please tell you are joking because if not, you honestly need to stop taking me and yourself so seriously. LOL.

  • @baddogonline Okay you've GOT to be trolling. Wow, Kayley is being soooo offensive by pointing out that fireworks are expensive, that the money could be used for other things (just bc she points this out doesn't mean liberals are going to start a petition) and that America hasn't done everything right (which it hasn't) but can be celebrated for things it has a accomplished. If you think America has a pristine record go take a freaking US history class.

  • @baddogonline you used the words "control" and "Liberals" wayyyy to many times....you just need to breath a little bit

  • Well I look at it this way, you spend a lot of time worrying about a bunch of stuff and that small thrill may at least serve as a momentary distraction. Like going to the movies, buying games or whatever. You may think "this movie ticket money would be better used in..." but you go anyway because it's a momentary distraction.

So yeah, fireworks are like going to the movies a gazillion times, but with way shorter playback time :D

  • I've always thought celebrations like this are pointless. I mean, I've always had this idea of not having countries at all andjust having one huge world, and the country names are simply so you know whereabouts on this one unified earth you are, where it doesn't matter what colour your skin is or what you like, everyone's exactly the same and there would be no wars or anything, but sincethat's never going to happen I'll just sit here in England and enjoy the fireworks XD

  • Exactly, I tend to see only the massive waste of money exploding in midair too. I even like when they use the boring fireworks instead of the fancy ones, because that means they spent less money on them, ha. But I try to see it more as promoting tourism to big city displays and bringing people together. Besides, I know, at least near where I live, a lot of families need a reason to feel some hope so I sort of look at it improving the world locally instead of it being a giant waste of resources.

  • i dont know if you already answered this, but what format did you export your video?

  • ppl in America take for granted being in America and all the benefits you as an American grew up with. I've been living here for only 5yrs, and let me tell you - this country is great.Back home education isnt free: you pay for your tuition from kindergarden until the last day you get off college, including every single meal you eat. you have to buy your own books in high school and carry them EVERYDAY to school+notebooks. So for a nation being run by mortal human, America is great! happy bday!

  • You live in Edmonds!?

  • In Australia, we really have NOTHING like America's independence day... Sure, we get a holiday, but most people just have a BBQ lunch at home, and drink with mates...

Such an Australian attitude to everything! lol.

  • I haven't seen fireworks in so long and I keep forgetting how awesome they are.

  • I think it's easier for a country to feel united when it's either a) small (either in terms of population or physical size) or b) has a strong history AND identity.

And generally only when there's something like sports or a war going on. Otherwise it's all regional bickering over who's the best.

  • I hate fireworks. Always have. Thus, even though it should be a celebratory day, I always dread the 4th. Just not my holiday, ya know? x]

  • I love the fourth of july and everything that it stands for. Although this country has many faults I am still very proud to be an american and I think that its good to come together as a country and feel united. I may not agree with a lot of what our country does but that does not stop me from being sooo incredably thankful for being born an American and to be living in this country that has so much freedon and great ideals opertunities that I have in America.

  • @owlssayhooot Oh wow. It's odd how people will shell out money like that for something as trivial as fireworks, but you have to hound them for charitable donations. And very true - that much money spent on exploding colors is ridiculous no matter who pays for it.

  • this video was lovely. thanks for sharing :)

  • You should still go to NZ. I hope to do so one day.

  • I was sort of feeling down on the fourth of July, and this video sort of cheered me up. Thanks! The US is a great country and I'm very thankful and proud to be an American.

  • I've never thought about fireworks that way, & while you make a good point.... they are still fireworks. They're childish excitement and wonder to me. I'm 28, and I look forward to every chance I get to see fireworks. They just seem so magical, like the represent something I'm always reaching for. I think it is hard for some people to forget about the things America has been through and overcome, and it's nice to see that realization in others.

  • @SillyJaime Yeah, but see, all I think about is that there are children dying throughout the world due to hunger and they don't get childish wonders such as fireworks, you know? They are just one of the many random things we could easily go without to help those in need.

  • @owlssayhooot I understand. :] But this year whilst listening to fireworks going off all over town, I thought to myself that the day means something more to me than it did before, being an Army wife. I saw it also as a celebration of what our country has become and can someday be. And maybe there is way to much money being spent on ridiculous things by this country... but as something that celebrates and praises our country one day out of the year, I don't see it as one of them.

  • @SillyJaime When I hear fireworks but don't see them I think about our country getting bombed, then I think about all the other people in countries who we are bombing.

  • @owlssayhooot And it's OK to disagree. :D

  • i kinda feel like this should be a thoughts from places video.. it seems fitting

  • @topographyofmars I mean, they are thoughts and some things happen, but I like to think that people were doing that before John and Hank gave it a name. As much as I love them, not every video with thoughts and places is trying to be like the vlogbrothers. xD

  • I never really thought of it that way. I see the fireworks as just a massive hazard. But you're right- it's good to set one day aside to forget differences and just be happy that we're one.

  • @Timinator232 Luckily big shows aren't a hazard since so much planning goes into them. But drunken celebrations + fireworks = disaster xD

  • @owlssayhooot my fear is actually based on drunken escapades. My friend's mom almost lost hearing when a mortar fired sideways and blew up right beside her. That's why I like the professional ones more. I'm also usually like 2 miles away from them when they occur.

  • YOU SHOULD FULLY STILL COME TO NEW ZEALAND!!!

  • I personally love the 4th of july, but that is just because of my extreme bias because my birthday is also on the 4th :) When I was really young I thought those fireworks were for me so I dont know, they just have a lot of memories attached to them.

  • @filibusterfirework74 Your username is fitting xD

  • @owlssayhooot Yep haha the whole reason for it (7/4) :) I am curious did the space ship say together or did it just fall apart?

  • @filibusterfirework74 ...What space ship are you talking about? Hahaha.

  • @owlssayhooot The one I made with you and kristina at lauren's show

  • That's what I think of everytime I see fireworks. Ever since I watched a film about a group of children in India making fireworks everyday and then receiving less than a dollar for a day of work. I think they called the fireworks the 'tears of the children of India?' This is not precise due to the fact that the film was in another language and I just roughly translated it XD

You're so eloquent and articulate, Kayley. C: I loved the video and the editing!

PS. I love your hair. (as always)

  • I don't know if this will make you feel any better when it comes to money spent on fireworks (though I know it made me feel better) but I recently found out that cities aren't usually paying for the displays, it's often big private donors like radio stations or restaurants. Although it's still an exorbitant amount, I take comfort in knowing it wasn't actually my tax dollars paying for the big kaboom.

  • @beautychaotic Oh I know, but it's money nonetheless, haha. Seattle almost didn't have a show last year, but a ton of private donors made it happen in the last 48 hours or something. But just the thought of all the things that money could go towards makes me sick. :P

  • Those are some awesome fireworks... meanwhile in Canada xD

  • I loved this video! Fourth of July has always been sort of a changing experience, compared to Christmas and Easter that remain basically the same. I never know what's going to happen, but I always end up with friends and family, so it's not too bad.
