jblund, i have to disagree with you, bill walker is a former top 5 draft pick, but now a diamond in the rough, yeah hes had his injuries but saying he is a poor defender and terrible ball handler is a false statement. He has the ball handling to create his own shot, his defense is pretty good actually, especially guarding paul pierce and ray allen on a continuous basis. Once he is 100% healthy he will easily be an 8th man right off the bat. The guy will be a force within the next couple of years

I like Bill Walker aka Black Haley. It's hard to dislike the guy. He's fun, happy to be there, has huge team spirit and just loves being a Celtic even if he plays less than a min per game.

But you guys saying he needs more minutes have unreasonable expectations of the guy. He's not a good player. He's not a good ball handler, he's terrible on defense, he has no range and he's not nearly athletic enough to make up for his weaknesses. I like him but come on, he's a natural born 12th man.

i was at celtics camp and this guy reminds me alot of paul pierce now. his mid range game looks like it improved tremendously.

are you speaking strictly of strength? speed? his first step is fast, and he sees lanes.... pierce isn't exactly fast, or graceful, but his moves (and his awesomeness - not putting walker in his league) allow him to get done what he needs done. those, are quick. decisive. confident.

i can see those qualities in walker. i agree the hype about starting is way overblown, but methinks you're being just as hyperbolic.

It's amazing that a guy that played such few minutes already has a highlight reel like this. He needs to be a better defender (I don't think he is bad) and develop range. I have no doubts that he will; he needs playing time though. He could get it too. If Marquis plays the 1 allot, he''ll have his chance. His game is very similar to Pierce's.

Doc Rivers never seems to give rookies much burn, even though grooming young players is supposedly a strength of his. But he put Walker ahead of Giddens in the rotation last season and I expect that to expand from that this season.
