REAL SOUL MUSIC.....U DONT SEE THIS ON AMERICAN IDOL..SOUL MUSIC DOES NOT EXCIST TODAY ANYMORE...O YEA//AMERICAN IDOL SUCKS...LOL..AND SO DO THE RECORD COMPANIES WHO MADE SURE SOUL MUSIC DOES NOT GET PLAYED....
I FOUND A RANDOM DISC THAT SAID MARVIN GAYE AND I PUT IT IN THE CD PLAYER AND IT DIDN'T WORK SO I PUT IT IN THE DVD AND THIS WHOLE DOCUMENTARY IS WHAT I FOUND
Greatest day ever.
Also, anyone getting a Michael vibe from his sort of... gentle spirit?
All I can say that God, with all my respect, was selfish enough to take him to His loving home so He could be closer to his voice and soul. He's surely enjoying Marvin's performances every night.
Nothing like hearing artists/songwriters interpreting their music in a solo format. It makes the music so raw that you start to understand their genius in performing, writing, and arranging. Just amazing 'cause I love "Come Get To This" and "Distant Lover". Just wow......
I experienced a SOUL OVERLOAD from 4:48 to 5:26. And when he hit that note on the piano at 5:07 and paused because of the overwhelming soul and passion in the cord he played and went "oooh...come on home pretty daaarlaaain", I think my computer speakers blew!
@ubzuki R.kelly comes closest to me to marvin kellz fell off the last few yrs but he's already a legend out of the new dudes I think neyo, trey songz can get there
it is on DVD. THis is prior the recording off his come back album, "Midnight Love" with ths smash hit "sexual healing".
A belgian prmoter and fan invited him in Oostende where he could rest and give up his drug habits (Cocaine and majijuana) and he did succed during his time in Belgium. ON the DVD, you have a first version of "Sexual Healing".
@UBZUKI Wow...nobody comes close to Marvin...from any era. But if I had to pick the closest from the last 25 years...Brian McKinght maybe. Josh Groban has a beautiful voice, but McKnight's more soulful so that's why I went with him.
Well for me 3 artists , VOCALLY can easily stand up with the late GREAT Marvin Gaye....DONNY HATHAWAY, STEVIE WONDER AND SAM COOKE. Brian McKnight? I respect your choice but he doesn't do it for me in this particular category. I much prefer D'angelo to fill them shoes.
@nikkeljoe It's on a real DVD called SEARCHING THE SOUL and it's available on Amaz.uk... It's not long but it's so moving... Love when Marvin sings in the Church or when he's rehearsing I Want You laying on a sofa while the band grooves!
im so mad that this kind of talent only comes along once a lifetime. my life was just starting as his was ending. Im an old soul been diggn marv since i was 6 and 7 and been emerged n his work since then. people would ask me how do you know that song? or what you know about that?...LMAO @ now that i think about it cuz i didnt know then what i know about it now.
not only was the man an incredible musician but he was a fantastic person, he cared and loved, so many of his melodic songs were political. what a sad loss to the world.
U know that ur the best when u have a concert with urself. Marvin is extraordinary and there is no one who can compare... Marvin why oh why.... we love you...
Im 36 and I miss going to the record store, it almost felt like some grand event, going there and being able to look the album covers which were artistic in themselves. Not the same think as point click and download. Bring back vinyl.
When you grew up in the 70's we were surrounded by excellent artists and songs. We had a smile on our faces and look forward to dancing. It was an awesome time, and I sure miss it.
thaks! there are people, who tell us, how it was and give us motivation to dance, to smile, to surround with GOOD music, not only and only: to earn earn earn money money money! There can be another priorities in life, isnt it?
There was such a sensuality to the music of M. Gaye's era, now all the music is strictly sexual leaving nothing for the imagination and showcasing the lack of skill and creativity the majority of singers out there today have.
And folks ask why I love the 70s.
Speechless at him just sitting down and playing and singing like that...Pure artistry
I wholeheartedly agree, 100% The shame is I wasn't even born in the 70's lol and I cant stand the music of today. 24 years old and this is the music I feel the most.
Thank God I had parents who have an extensive vinyl LP collection and listened to the old school R&B and classic soul station in the car LOL That was enough exposure for me to fall in love with the entire era and genre of music
I love this I love this I love this!!! Thank you...I was thinking about this documentary this evening and decided to see if someone had posted this! Thank you Nikkeljoe!
Let's get a Rapper with just a Beat Box and have Marvin perform with just a Piano ! who's going to draw a crowd! I rest my case> Raw Talent!! UNSURPASSED!!~~

nikkeljoe- love you for posting and hate to be anal but this was early 80's.looking for the full video of his time in Belgium - its called "Transit Ostend" - anybody?!
It is videos like this that should make everybody dance their way into a record store and pick up this man's music. And if you google video search: Remember Marvin Gaye, you can see the entire documentary of when he was in Ostend. Don't just listen to his music, hear it.

Holy S**T. I am a huge Motown fan. Long live Barry Gordy and the Funk brothers
BUT THIS...is just unforgettable, Critic that I am...would have been super cool to hear Jamerson play bass as a duo on this,.
