you cant dual boot a windows server, you have to install over a current os

I saw you guys are having some doughts here, I'll do my best:

1. Windows Server 2008 requires about 2gb or more of ddr2 RAM memory *I recommend 4gb

2. Wndows Server 2008 should NEVER be used as a Desktop Computer, because you'll never be using all the resources of your computer due to the Server Services (IIS, AD, ETC...)

3. Windows SUCKS. Unless your Corporation is ready to pay like US$300 per computer for Microsoft products licesing and CALs, you should try Linux and Opensource alternatives.

I think I'll definitely do this to my server I'm building at home. I know servers should be running as efficient as possible but it doesn't have to look completely like ass to do it.

Seeing how it won't be utilized to it's full potential I can spare some ram and processor time to accommodate a decent look for my 08 server.

gosh why do people feel the need to get windows 2008? y not stay with the OS that actually changes each year... y would you use windows server?it is practically the same each year and it doesn't come with eh computer

well just think: That would mean schools would have to install the OS on every single computer...That would take months. Why not install it with a few clicks with windows server? It is also much easier to manage that configuring every single computer.

yes i have windows 2008... but i do hate! with a passion WINDOWS 7 yuk! anyways my school bought abunch of dirtcheep computers with vista on them... and GASP THEY INSTALLED XP OVER EACH ONE OF THEM! they are idiots! and we have atleast 800 computers ber building (excluding laptops) witch also were running vista and had the same thing done to them

I just started using WinServer2k8, and I happen to like the eye candy Vista has to offer. I scoured Google for a few hours finding the first few steps, but none of the tutorials explained that you had to enable the 'Themes' service and had to start the service. This tutorial made it work flawlessly and saved me some headaches trying to figure it out. Thank you.

THis is a good idea! You can download the trial for free of 08 server, and itll be like getting vista for free! Backup everything, and after 60 days reformat and reinstall.

i remember why server themes are needed.

most windows administrators & users have no clue how to accomplish anything useful and so the windows guided tour with the fancy themes are needed.

Do something useful today and learn linux.

linux is easier than windows evan without pictures so it is to stupid to buy it and putting up a new OS on a computer is extremely stupid as it messes with the settings in the computer

why does a server need themes ? here are some thoughts of mine

maybe to play games

maybe to sit at the server and gaze at areo.

maybe to say my server is looks better than yours.

maybe to high def images of logged in users.

maybe to provide admin with something to click on

when i sit at a server the last thing my client want me to do is fart assing around with themes.

Do something useful today and learn linux.

linux hold the server market and there are no glass themes neither.

Yes, it is Camtasia... but everything is recorded in a virtual machine using VMWare, so the host pc can record the virtual pc when it is shutting down and starting up.

Naaa... Win2K8 has the Vista look and feel, not XP.

Very nice but it's just the simple Windows Vista theme not the Aero. To Enable the Aero Theme you need to have a nice GPU and the latest drivers for it. Then you can enable the Aero itself. It'll be nice glossy transparent and just like on Win Vista. ;)

Actually, the theme is 'Aero' and what you are talking about is the 'Glass' effect for the Aero theme. If your machine Win2008 has the resources, you can still have the Glass effect, but I do the videos in VMWare, so I cannot show it with Glass turned on.

for all you people that are having trouble with this...if you browse the net you can find a file that lets you download the vista theme - you will also be able to find the transperant thing as well for the progreams and all that.

sorry i have forgotten the site - i used it when i had XP on my old laptop. :( it made it lag alot cause i added the cube thing that lets you have 4 diff screens =D. lol

i was woundering i got my laptop upgraded to windows vista home premium and it told me that it couldn't enable windows aero and flip 3d due to my graphics card and is it possible to upgrade my graphics card ? My laptop is an hp pavillion dv2000 plz some1 reply i need to no.

you could try downloading new updates for your graphics card or you could just buy a new graphics card.

i graphics card is a standard and replace it with 1 that is capable with enabling aero.

Aero isn't the issue... It is the Glass effect. If you get a card that can handle it, you should have no problems
