@govlover What IS the message you got from it? I've seen it. It's just that people always talk about "messages" and I'm never sure if they actually got one... apart from some watered-down after school special message like "slavery is bad and I'm glad it's over."
@tcutie87 I saw it only once, but what stood out to me in that first sitting was the reality that capital owners run things ( those who own assets and money in vast quantities ). Second, the slaves were not 'freed' in true form, but only physically allowed to choose on their own who they will hire themselves out to. Did you notice how the trade store was brought to the slaves, onto the master's property? With the introduction of money ( which they had no clue what it was ), now the slaves...
Respond to this video... the slaves were paid a pittance ( they thought it was a good wage ) and sold goods at exorbitant prices ( they did not know they were getting ripped off ).... and to think about it, isn't this what is still happening in the inner cities and throughout the world? I personally have first-hand account of the mentality to rob the ignorant and have witnessed the ignorant robbed. The chicanery depicted in this movie is still alive today. The slave mentality too.
aww i miss seeing nicole kidman in this movie. It seems so wrong for someone else to be playing that role.... well. I'm sure she's an excellent actress as well~~
@Rosstacular sup G :) nah I didn't end up watching it, I started but I felt too unsettled lol I couldn't make myself sit through another one of Lars von Triers movies unless I had someone to break down & discuss the movie with me :)
This was a powerful movie, great idea with the minimal use of props.. not for children to watch, but important messages found herein.

@tcutie87 I suggest watching the movie... it is pretty powerful. The lack of props doesn't take away from message.
