  • ok i got the picture on my tv. but its not on my media express. any ideas?

  • @d34m0nh3 That usually means you have something in Media Express set incorrectly.

  • I watched you video and read your description. I did exactly what you did but nothing was showed up in Blackmagic Media Express. Please help me. BTW, I was trying to capture PS3 through component. I have Blackmagic Intensity Extreme on mac. Its exactly uses same software for windows. I have no Idea why its not working. Help me please!

  • @Mohd1986s Try 720p or 1080i as your resolution, and try the different settings in Media Express.

  • Okay, so the problem I am having now is that on the Media Express program when I click capture it stays at a black screne. I have downloaded every option of the CD that it came with, but the USB 3.0 Desktop Video installer wont finish downloading and is giving an "Error 2753" What should I do? Ive tried figuring out how to fix the error, and trying to install an updated driver like you showed. Nothing changes and when I clicked on the USB 3.0 Host Controller Utility it came up with "Not Found"

  • @fireblaze1992 Search for a USB 3.0 controller on your computer first of all. If it doesn't show up then you might not have USB 3.0

Also, download the latest Black Magic drivers from the website since the ones on the CD are horribly outdated.

  • HELP: I have an intensity pro and its hdmi in and out I have followed all the steps and have the correct settings. On the log and capture tab there is no picture and I have set them both to 720p. It doesn't show up on my TV either. Thanks in advance for any help. :)

  • @TheFazedReality PS3 or 360? PS3 needs Component input, 360 should be fine with HDMI.

Also, are you using the Shuttle or Pro? Are the settings in Media Express good (and have you tried others?)

  • @SpaceTopGames Works like a dream with 1080i. Thanks

  • @TheFazedReality Weird, should work with both. Oh well, 1080i's better anyway.

  • Thanks!! You helped me out a lot!!

  • can you make it full screen?

  • @Mohd1986s Not the preview window, no.

  • Im using hdmi. and it will not record sound but it will for video. ANY HELP????

  • @AgapeHaloful Make sure the Black Magic control panel is set to detect sound from HDMI, and that your console isn't outputting audio through Optical Out or RCA or something.

  • How I hide the time bar at the top of the screen?

  • @P33PINGTOM I don't know what you mean, in Media Express? On your TV? What time bar?

  • Is there any lag from the xbox through the card/computer to the tv?

  • @AbsolutexStatic NOT to the TV, There is a lag on the preview window on the PC, but the card does a direct passthrough back to the TV

  • @AbsolutexStatic Depending on your computer you might get lag on the preview window, but there should be 0 lag when you're playing on the TV.

  • Hi wondering if you can help , if i dont have media express fully open as in the front program on my screen or if i minimise my tv just goes black yet if i bring media express back to the front it works again , strange and i have no idea why

  • @WillzPs3 In Media Express settings if you check the "allow playback in background" box, or something like that, then you can do other things with it open without it going dark.

  • Have a Question i Got the Intensity pro installed on my computer and Everything but i cant get it to apear on my TV or Computer and i Got It to work last Time and Everything was Good but the Audio was bad and now i cant do it again please Help

  • Damn issues with my HDMI input.. Any thoughts of why it will not work HDMI in from my xbox? I tried many different drivers many different things..

  • @TheLiQuiDTaGe Is it in the right port (sounds obvious...) and is it set right in the BMI Control Panel? Also, is your Xbox set to 720p or 1080i, and same with Media Express?

  • @SpaceTopGames Right port, Compontent in HDMI out works.. But just cant get HDMI in... Like I tried different drivers. I switched in control panel and have it on 720 with 59.94. So last thing to do is try anything with hdmi just to see if it works at all. Cause there is nothing else I can think of at all would cause it not to work.

  • @TheLiQuiDTaGe Yea that's weird, it should work for the Xbox. The PS3 and Wii need Component but as far as I know there's no issue with the 360's HDMI

  • hey SPACETOPGAMES do you mind helping me through this on skype.everything with my computer is updated everything is more than enough to and compatible with the intensity shuttle but for some reason i keep getting a black screen idkwtf to do and im going crazy ive tried everything im using 2 hdmi plugs.. PLEASE HELP ME ... because im thinking about sending it back

  • @theeBADassBEAUTY If you're sure everything's set up correctly, send Black Magic a message. The only thing I'll be able to tell you is what I've already said in the videos, and if there is a problem with your card BMI or who you bought it from are the only ones that can help you now.

  • @SpaceTopGames ok thanks im going to do that right now!

  • so I have mine all setup and i cant get my monitor to get picture on my xbox. it is saying there isnt an hdmi plugged in but it is. can you not run hdmi in and hdmi out? on the bmi shuttle

  • @fireblaze1992 You're 100% sure your computer is compatible with the Shuttle, and that the 360 is set to 720p or 1080i, the BMI control panel is set correctly, and the settings in Media Express are set correctly?

  • Hey I have a BMI Pro and it's great for streaming but when I capture a video, even like a 10 second video, the file is HUGE! How do I fix this? (10 Seconds of 720P Halo Reach was 200 MB)

  • @R2theallix You don't, I think I mentioned the file sizes are going to be huge. If you record in AVI Motion JPEG, they're a lot smaller than AVI 8-bit, but they're still going to be huge. It's just the way the software records and the way uncompressed video works.

1TB HDD's are around $150 (should be going down soon) and last forever if you need space.

  • the pic doesnt show up in black magic media express :( only sound works , im using ps3

  • @TheQueenYuliaBeckham Are you using an HDMI cable for the inputs? If so, you have to use Component, you can't use HDMI to capture with the PS3. You can use an HDMI output cable though, incase your TV/Monitor doesn't have Component ports.

  • @SpaceTopGames yh thts wat i did but idk wats the problem

  • @TheQueenYuliaBeckham Is it set correctly in your Control Panel, is your PS3 set to display in 720p or 1080i, and is it set correctly in Media Express?

  • @SpaceTopGames yh everything but i couldnt find the usb 3.0 updater in station website , so do u think i can uninstall my usb 3.0 driver and download another one tht it exist in station drivrs? or my laptop dnt need it?

  • @TheQueenYuliaBeckham You're using a laptop? That might be why..

Drivers for a different hardware won't work if your hardware is different.

  • @TheQueenYuliaBeckham i have the same problem!?

  • cant use hdmi for ps3?????

  • I have a Fresco Logic xHCI (USB3) Controller FL1000 series. Is the renesas required? Or is there a chance the shuttle will work with this.

  • @Hellraiser717 I would ask Black Magic about that one. I'm pretty sure it can work with different controllers, you'll just have to make sure it's fully updated and that your chipset on your motherboard is good enough.

  • @SpaceTopGames They aren't quick to respond :/

I'm connecting it to the USB 3.0 port, and it connects and disconnects over and over again. Know a fix for that? If blacmagic does, they are taking their time to tell me.

  • @Hellraiser717 same here

  • @Hellraiser717 I have that problem with one of mine- and it's the USB cable.

  • @Hellraiser717 They're a big company, they take a day or two to respond, sometimes more.

If it keeps doing that, it's either the USB cable, a problem with your computer's USB port, or the capture card itself. Try the port with other USB devices, if it doesn't do it then try to get a different USB 3.0 cable, and if not it might be the capture card.

It might also just be your USB controller, I've only ever used Renesas for it.

  • @SpaceTopGames Port works with other USB 2.0 stuff, don't have other 3.0 to test with though.

When I first plugged it in, it was able to install shuttle software (Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle and Shuttle Audio or something), so the cable and capture card are not completely broke.

  • at 6:37 I think you mean the other options a %100 UNcompressed video, right?

  • @TheGamersHud Yes, I meant uncompressed haha

  • @SpaceTopGames

And what motherboard do you have? because one of the requirements is an x58 mobo or better...and idk if the LGA 1155 Z68 mobo's would be good enough..plz respond! xD

  • @TheGamersHud That's fast enough for the Shuttle, yours should work fine

  • How did you fix it, I'm having the same problem.

  • have they fixed it so its easier yet?

  • @GJUnLeAsHeD I have no idea what that means.

  • When i record (capture) the sound does not work. Why??

  • @ONEshot1KILL4 What do you mean? Does your captured video not have sound, or is there no sound coming from the outputs on the capture card?

  • @SpaceTopGames nvm i fixed it. All good

  • Thanks for the demo, very interesting! Much appreciated.

I have to capture uncompressed 1080p 30fps video from another PC. (Software capture is not an option in this case.) The Intensity spec says that 1080p 30fps is supported, but in your video you advised against choosing 1080p. Is there any special reason? And, can you please confirm that the approximate required hard drive speed for 1080p 30fps uncompressed capture would be ~ 1920 * 1080 * 3 * 30 = 186 MB / sec?

    Thanks!

  • @rubinhood1 It can't capture consoles in 1080p, which is why I said 1080i. I know it can capture things like camcorders in 1080p, but I have no idea if it can from another PC. You would be best asking Black Magic about that kind of thing.

As for the hard drive, if you plan on capturing in AVI 8-bit 1080p, you'll probably need a RAID 0 setup to get enough bandwidth to keep up with the capture, but again I'd ask Black Magic about it.

  • @SpaceTopGames Thanks!

  • i have eveything done like you said in this video, but i can not change the settings in the control for the black magic so i can't choose to see the xbox coming in to the black magic any ideas?

  • @Mreilly321 That usually happens when your computer isn't detecing the capture card. Are you using the Shuttle or the Pro?

  • hi i do everything you say until i have to check if i have the latest firmware and it just says usb 3.0 host controller not found?

  • @Keeirrr Then you probably don't have USB 3.0. Do you have a Blue USB port as one of the ports in the back of your case?

  • @SpaceTopGames yeah i have it but i just found out my motherboard isnt compatible :/ oh well.

  • Did you ewver have problem installing drivers? I got my bmi today and I cant make the drivers work... I have windows 7 and core i7

  • @TheFr1ch I've had some issues with using the newest driver sometimes. If the newest one doesn't work, try an older version or the version I use in the video

  • @SpaceTopGames ive tried the 8.0 ones. do you think I should try the older ones? the newest ones glitch my comp and freezes some times. THanks for the reply. im worried that my comp (even though its really good) isnt compatible for a bmi

  • @TheFr1ch What are the rest of your computer specs? If it's freezing there's something else wrong

  • @SpaceTopGames Its a Gateway FX6860-UR20p Windows 7, Intel core i7, AMD Radeon HD 6750, 1.5TB hard drive, 8GB ram. I dont think its my comp?

  • @TheFr1ch No that wouldn't be it. What exactly happens when the drivers don't work?

  • @SpaceTopGames there will be an error that pops up saying that the drivers on my computer saying cannot be fully installed, please restart your computer and try again. so I restart my computer and my mouse and programs that I try to open and the audio from youtube or anything else glitches out and I try to shut down my comp and it wont let me. I emailed black magic to see what they can figure out the problem.

  • @TheFr1ch Are you using the Shuttle or Pro? Make sure the Shuttle is unplugged when you aren't recording if you're using the Shuttle. If it's the Pro then Black Magic will be able to help you out the most.

  • @SpaceTopGames yea its the pro.. thanks for your help

  • I have a question: Can I hook up a Ful HD camcorder to the Intensity shuttle and set everything up as an HD webcam?

  • @raidentheninja This capture card was originally made to capture from HD Camcorders actually, so I'm sure that would work as long as it has HDMI or Component.

  • Hi there what are you using to record your desktop>? I tried to use my black magic shuttle to capture my PC games but i don't know how to do it using the shuttle, is it possible?

  • @Merlanthous Fraps is the best software to use when capturing PC. If you use Windows 7 or Windows Vista, Fraps can monitor your Aero desktop, so it can record that too. Using the Shuttle to record your PC might be possible, but it isn't really all that practical.

  • Hi. Can you make screenshot in media express of some game and upload it ? I want buy shuttle, but i need to know quality of screenshots. Please)

  • @isupov In the Media Express you can capture Still Frames by pressing two keys, of which I've forgotten, but it's in the "Edit" drop-down menu. The quality is as good as what you get on your TV.

  • @SpaceTopGames Thank you, I got it, now i want intensity)

  • Do you need usb 3.0 for intensity pro?

  • @MrMythicmelon No just an open PCIe port

  • Nice tutorial. Also where did you get that sweet background for your google page?

  • my project video fromat says native(progressive) and my video format says h.264Mp4 I can't choose any other formats please help im using the shuttle

  • @DEag1e50 What Operating System are you using?

  • @SpaceTopGames windoes 7, it let me choose formats before i updated my drivers to allow the shuttle to work, now the computer says the shuttle is ready to use but i can't choose formats now. also in media express it says that no device is connected when the computer says there is, i don't think the software can find the shuttle

  • @DEag1e50 It sounds more like your USB 3.0 port isn't detecting the Shuttle. You have on-board USB 3.0 and at least an x58 chipset on your motherboard right?

  • @SpaceTopGames Good news actualy i fixed it, my computer for what ever reason didn't have an up to date usb 3.0 firmware so every things fine now thanks your video helped alot

  • Hey where do i save my drivers to? It asks me where I want to extract it

  • Please make a video on how to update the usb 3.0 driver!

  • hi...where is possible to download the blackmagic intensity shuttle's drivers?? i bought once today but i don't know why haven't the drivers inside the cd :(

  • @dubstepNeon Go to the website, there's a link in the description.....

  • Comment removed

  • I have usb 3.0, 12gb Ram, Intel Core i7 750, 3.07 Ghz, and it doesnt work....

  • @whosMyZtiC What about your chipset? You need x58 or newer. If you do, ask Black Magic, you might have to go with the Intensity Pro.

  • @SpaceTopGames yh im probably going to buy an intensity pro, would it work on my pc?

  • @whosMyZtiC As long as you have an open PCIe port it will work.

  • @SpaceTopGames i think i have, because I havnt installed anything xD

    thx

  • Does this work at all on laptop?

  • @NexusARC If you have a really powerful laptop with USB 3.0, and if you ask Black Magic and they say you can, then most likely. Otherwise no, you can't use this or the Intensity Pro on a laptop.

  • ok thanks helps alot i just needed some type of of idea to buy an computer for the blackmagic intensity pro or the express i think but thanks this helps!!!!

  • which desktop do you have because I'm thinking of buying a desktop i just don't know which one to buy someone help?

  • @haroldjr16 I built mine. If you have the time and attention span, research how to build your own and research the parts that suit you, you'll save a lot of money by building your own computer. If you don't want to do that or don't have the time, usually $400-$700 computers are good to buy but it's hard to suggest one. That's also not the point of this video, so I won't be saying much more on the subject

  • Can you help me? I installed everything perfectly fine all of the drivers went in fine and I have all the latest as according to black magic design, but when I plug my shuttle into the USB 3.0 it says that the USB Host has ran out of bandwidth, which really makes no sense I run a lot of things through them generally. Anyway my PC was built this year and the motherboard is a... GA-P55A-UD3. Cheers. I am also using the Xbox with HDMI in and HDMI out.

  • @XxCH33SEC4KExX You have a P55 chipset, which might be the problem. As far as I know, only x58 or P67 or newer will work, and since yours is older, that could be why. I would ask Black Magic support if there's anything else you can try, if not, send it back and buy the Pro.

  • OK, so I totally got this working with normal AV cables on my Wii, but I just bought some cheap Component cables for it and I got all my settings right. But I'm not getting a signal when I go to the capture. I haven't tested the cables on a TV yet to make sure they work mainly because I don't want to have to lug the Wii into another room. What do you think it could be?

  • @TheRealPanacamanana In Media Express, set it to NTSC in the preferences (instead of 720p or 1080i) and your Wii needs to be set to 480i.

  • I think I need a better harddrive :( my says its just below being able to do 720p if I do raid 0 with two 500GB 7200RPM would I be able to do 1080i? btw its the shuttle.

  • @lnceptis You shouldn't need RAID, even though it would be useful. One of those hard drives should be able to record 1080i and 720p just fine, if you choose the AVI Motion JPEG format.

  • @SpaceTopGames It wont start up to :( and I can't change preferences

  • @lnceptis do you have skype cause I really need help I can't figure this out :(

  • @lnceptis I need more information.. What card are you using, what console, what connection type?

  • @SpaceTopGames hdmi, Alienware aurora X58 Chipset, i7 920, 12GB of ram, and 500GB at 7200RPM and 1GB video card. and its the blackmagic shuttle

  • @lnceptis Make sure it's in a USB 3.0 port and your USB 3.0 drivers are up-to-date (as shown in the pamphlet-thing that comes with the card), and that the rest of your settings are good. You have ot use component if you're using the PS3 or Wii.

  • @SpaceTopGames So Support said my motherboard is not supported but if I got one of the supported ones do the rest of my pieces work?

  • @lnceptis If you got a new motherboard (which generally means new computer) that is x58 or newer then the Shuttle should work fine. If you don't want to get a whole new computer, I would go with the Pro since it's the exact same thing just a little longer to set up.

  • @SpaceTopGames So wait you would go with the Asus P6X58D-E Pro or just the Asus P6X58D-E cause I bought the Asus P6X58D-E on ebay and if the pro is going to work and is better I can always return the normal one.

  • @lnceptis hey do you have a Skype?

  • @lnceptis I was talking about the Intensity Pro, but since you bought the motherboard it doesn't really matter. Either way, both motherboards are good, it's just a matter of choice between the Pro and regular.

  • @SpaceTopGames So it still didn't work so I'm returning everything and you said you suggest the Intensity Pro but do you think it will work on my Alienware Aurora before I go buying it?

  • @lnceptis As long as you have an open PCIe port yes it should work.

  • Please help i use my black magic on xbox 360 and it works fine i use component on it. but i also wanna use my ps3 but i use hdmi on ps3 and i cant get it to work right idk if its a ps3 thing but i cant seem to get any help from any one that uses a ps3 with the capture card please help i have tried all settings from 720p and up nothing seems to work

  • @crawlingshadow You have to use component on the PS3, you can't record while using HDMI.

  • Great tutorial, but i have some problems...

I'm using a Intensity Pro and my TV screen on which I'm playing Xbox 360 with 720p keeps black.(HDMI) The Media Express preview, too. The Xbox isn't even starting and yes I have checked the cables few times now. My settings in Media Express are 720p 59.94 as u said. I tried it whit every setting, but still same problem...

Do you know what the problem is? I got it today and I'm frustrated now...

  • @CrOaTiAnBeAsT46 Try it on your TV without the Black Magic and make sure it still shows up. Also make sure your Xbox is in the Input slot, and that your settings are set to HDMI for Input. Obviously your computer and Xbox need to be on, and Media Express has to be open and on the Capture Tab.

I'm assuming you already tried that, but I just want to make sure. If it still won't work, contact Black Magic Support.

  • @SpaceTopGames Thank you for your answer^^ I know what the problem is... The Xbox 360 Slim is protected just like the Ps3 on HDMI connection...

  • @CrOaTiAnBeAsT46 That's always confused me, I've had peopel tell me the Slim isn't protected for video games (only movies) and then I've had people tell me it's protected for everything. Either way, they yell at me, which you aren't, just saying past experiences lol.

Try component then, if it doesn't work you probably have a faulty card.

  • @SpaceTopGames I got it to work the 2nd day after I posted the 1st comment^^ It's really awesome and yeah the HDCP thing confuses me aswell. :D

THX for your answers anyway. Keep your good work up :)

  • Okay, so I am wanting to get a shuttle, but I am using a H67 intel motherboard, would it be compatable? Because I can't find anything answering this question... Also do I need a RAID.0 setup for it if I am planning to capture uncompressed wii component?

  • @guapopollo You won't need RAID 0, but it would be good if you were able to use it. It's completely optional though.

The H67 is almost the same as the P67, and the P67 works with the Shuttle, but I would ask Black Magic Support, they'll know for sure.

  • @SpaceTopGames cool! Thanks!

  • @PyKeSnM You need a desktop, laptop's won't work.

  • Hello. I'm considering upgrading to a BMIShuttle. Not sure if you mentioned it in the video since it's alot of info I'm trying to remember, but if one does Component Input with HDMI output to an HDTV, does the HDMI output show any signs of conversion lag? I am considering using this to capture for some competitive gaming events, but I'm afraid the output may have some kind of conversion lag that would ruin the player's timing (the games requires 1~2 /60 frame timing). Thanks for your videos btw!

  • Sorry for another question again, but does the shuttle allow you to use other software with it? (ie act as a "camera" input for things like wirecast and xsplit? Thank you for any help you can give me.

  • @Nyawu The output doesn't matter for whatever console you use, and there will be no lag anywhere since it just sends the signal through as if it were a single cable, but the card is inbetween to capture it.

If you mean for things like streaming, I'm pretty sure it can. I don't know otherwise. I've never used this card for more than recording for YouTube.

  • @SpaceTopGames Ah, thanks. I was just wondering if it was a simple pass through or if it did some processing on it (analog conversion to digital and all). I decided to get intensity pro after more research, so thanks again for your video!

  • Ok i bought mine a long time ago and i have the old version of the media express. how can i get the update? I have 2.3 and i hear the new one is 3.

  • @samohhTx You go to the website and download it...

  • @SpaceTopGames is that the blackmagic_desktop.zip thing?

  • @samohhTx Most likely, whatever the file is that you download and extract is the one you install.

  • First of all thanks a lot; you helped me out a lot with ur vids. Second, when I played my video back, there was no sound. It's probably something really obvious, but I don't know the software well at all. Any advice?

  • @forshizzall Are you using the Shuttle or Pro, what connections are you using (HDMI, component) and also, what console?

  • @SpaceTopGames I'm using the Pro with HDMI on my XBox

  • @forshizzall In the Black Magic Control Panel is your input set to HDMI video & HDMI audio? Is there sound when you put the video in an editing software? I can't see why it wouldn't record it, unless you have it turned off on your Xbox settings for some reason (muting your TV won't make a difference).

  • Wow right when im looking into buying one of these you decided to upload these tutorials lol

  • @ToxicFlyman Most annoying thing is when you get something and can't find decent tutorials on it, so I decided to make my own. This was just an updated version of my last one though.

  • Best, most thorough video I've seen on this topic. Covered everything from start to finish. Thanks! Do you stream to justin.tv or ustream? Those tutorials would be key for most people using a capture card.

  • @Chronus8888 I haven't tried streaming with these cards, but it's something I want to look into. If I can figure it out in the near future I'll make a guide for some of the common sites, but it'll probably be best for people to figure it out themselves.

  • What happens if i choose 1080P?

  • @RvGFuZe I believe you might be able to get it to work on the Shuttle, you'd just have to try the other 50/60/59.94 to see if it shows up. I could never get 1080p to show up.

1080i and 1080p have the same resolution, so YouTube thinks the two are the same which is enough for me.

  • Damn, how do you have so much gamerscore???

  • @SuperXShapiro Years of playing
