The commentaries from the director and people that worked on it say it all.

These aren't aliens with the music from heaven and bright shining light. They are living creatures with credible technology, some machines disfunction or self-weekness, just as us. They are closer to us than any other alien I've seen in any other Sc-Fi movie, and that's why I'm gonna love it to death.

ok, I'm going to explain why I thought this movie was awesome. first of all, the first half of the movie is very mysterious and keeps you anctiously awaiting to understand what exactly is going on, the second half was very exiting and kept you on the edge of your seat for a long period of time. how all the characters fit in at the end is ingenious. you can either root for the aliens or the humans, and the ending let's you decide how you want Wikus's fate to be. that's why I give it an 8.8
