  • Is there perhaps an element of The Day Today in this? Just a couple of years before it was made far all...

  • I think they should bring this back- a good mix of news and other programming. Nowhere near as silly as The Big Breakfast was. What is even on Channel 4 in the morning these days?

  • @thelyniezian After the failure of RISE they just gave up and now resort to filler. I don't even watch C4 that much these days. The schedule is packed with awful, cheapo programming that's almost identical to Channel 5. C4 should bring it back but won't because the station sold out its cutting edge philosophy a long time ago. C4 realised they could make ca$h with crap. On the launch day of The Big Breakfast, a viewer called in and said the entire premise was insulting lol...

  • @JayArgonaut Sadly, I very much suspect the "making cash with crap" philosophy has been the inevitable result of increased competition. It was after all the era ('92, when this got taken off for TBB) when we had satellite TV becoming mass-market, and that probably meant being more "aggressive" in trying to retain viewing figures to make enough from adverrtising. I dare say having a "cutting-edge" format doesn't really work too well if it has to be funded by advertising- too risky.

  • Really, this programme was very advanced for its time. Rather than mimic TV-AM or the BBC, I think it tried to be a visual-version of the rolling in-vision Teletext service. I mean the magazines are handled in millitary precision.

  • No it's not! Now see how EuroNews is very similar to this...!

  • This pre-dated EuroNews by over 3 years. EuroNews didn't launch until 1993.

  • @citymediaproductions That's right. I know ITN had a little influence to supply UK content to Euronews as a shareholder.

  • Rip indeed :(

  • 500 presenters in two hours... everything lasted for 3 minutes :-)

  • RIP Carol Barnes you are sorely missed.

  • I loved it to bits.

    Sadly missed.

  • Yuppy TV, very of its time. Ace theme tune though!

  • ........ and then there was Chris and Gaby!!

  • whirlywiz - I got up for the cartoons, I found the format quite fresh at the time. I think it was a TOO sharp-edged ..hence Big Breakfast which was v. opposite in style i.e. colourful, entertaining.

But I loved that, MarkPBerne that COMIC BOOK clip!! Don't remove it?! :D
