Punisher: War Zone Review

I had a blast watching this with a friend when we were drinking pretty heavily. I recommend that you watch it with that mentality and atmosphere and you'll have a good time with this. It's a loud stupid movie similar to a Steven Seagal flick. Take it for what it is, it's a fun body count movie if anything.

And the Dark Knight sucked. All The Dark Knight has going for it are Heath Ledger, some interestingly minimal soundtrack choices, and that scene with Tiny Lister getting rid of a bomb. The rest is just a foundering morass of overbearing editing, terrible camerawork, Christian Bale growling, and confused morality.

The only thing I didn't like about War Zone, was the fact that it gave off the MAX series vibe, yet the actual movie is much more like the original War Zone series from the 80s. Very over the top, nothing like I was expecting. I was expecting something hardcore, gritty, and realistic. I got something completely different, that actually reminded me of movies like Commando and Rambo First Blood Part 2. But, it is still a great movie. It is my favorite Marvel movie, with Thor as a close second.

300 was the same movie as Punisher War Zone, a little story & manliness which in the end was just an excuse to show people dying in various different ways.

WANTED was trying to actually go for a story & I unfortunately didn't enjoy it as much as I should've since it took itself too seriously and 300 and Punisher WarZone didn't take themselves too seriously although both of them were unhappy but in the end cool

I agree, Wanted failed miserably, because it wanted to be taken seriously and be über-cool at the same time. And although you are right in that Punisher didn't want to be taken seriously, I still hated the main character, which I didn't in 300. I just think that if WarZone was close to the comics, the comics are probably shit, no offense.

The 70s, 80s Punisher comics sucked complete ass.

The late 90s-present day MAX comics by Garth Ennis though were great. Heck, there was this one hilarious alternate reality one called "The Punisher Kills the Marvel Universe & it's fuckin' hilarious. He nukes all the X-MEN, shoots Spider-Man & more.

That move just failed in every way. It might have been close to the comic (which I'm not a fan of) but it didn't deliver as a film. Visuals sucked, acting was lame, characters weird, lame unsexy sex scene, boring action scenes that made Showgirls look like Toy Story

um, ok, then we must have totally different tastes because that is my favorite movie of 2009 so far (havent seent District 9, Moon, Up and some other highly regarded movies).

I never read the comics but it did deliver as a movie. the visuals were breathtaking, the acting was very good, the characters were outstanding, I didn't care too much for the sex scene and the action was concise.

WarZone was an unintentional comedy, and not even good at that. and since when is "mindless" a good critaria?

War Zone was an intentional B-movie while Watchmen was a visual disappointment.

The fight scenes sucked, story was weird & sex totally ruined it. If I want sex, I'll watch porn because I want a story & it didn't deliver on that part.

Anyway, people who are saying it's the best movie of all time clearly haven't seen too many good movies or haven't seen the Dark Knight by the best filmmaker Christopher Nolan. Haven't seen District 9, hmm? Then see it or The Informant or State of Play: All good

Chris Nolan is great, I agree, he has not failed one single time so far... but when you watch his movie you can't help but notice that there are always TWISTS and then another TWIST, he should work on that

I am more of a filmbuff as opposed to comics so I didn't like Watchmen because it's story didn't do much for cinemas nor was it anything you haven't seen before. Alan Moore's V For Vendetta was way better

Being a huge Punisher fan, this movie really does brings the MAX series to the big screen. The one from 2004 was decent, but the plot where the Punisher tricks Howard Saint into killing his best friend and wife was asinine, he would have killed them on the spot instead. This movie was character heavy, and they could have (and should have) done without LBJ, he wasnt even in the comic to begin with. The lighting was a little Batman and Robin-ish, but thats just nitpicking. I give it a solid B+

I agree with these guys on it being totally gory, violent, and a good shoot em up movie for a bunch of guys to watch..however, I didn't think it was a bad film at all.

I mean the story is as simple as Punisher continuing his role of killing off bad guys, but this time around a family is involved. Whats wrong with that? Simple and sweet.

Also..the whole gang warfare thing at the end was just awesome.

Stevenson was awesome in this movie he actually slightly trumps the comic by bringing a slight shred of humanity to his scenes particularly when he is with the little girl who reminds him of his lost daughter. The way he switches into kill mode is part of the brilliance the reviewer is right a film with a few script and casting flaws but any MAX pun fans will drool over it but even non fans will love the crazy shoot em up action.

just saw punisher warzone and i have to say i loved it.. i also love the one with thomas jane as well.. both movies did really well.. but warzone was more promising with it over the top violence. and ray looks alot like the character from the comics.. now i haven't read the comics but i have seen photos of then and ray is by far the closest. great fill. i give it a 10/10 like the first one.. the one with that russian guy from rocky 4 sucks.. i hope they make another one with ray.. or thomas.
