  • Take it down already. You said a month ago you would. Also, it's not a memory card you dipshit. The "original" is NOT red. It is the EXPANSION PAK, and it doubled the system's ram, which is why it was included with Perfect Dark, and DK64, since those used more the 4MB. Lastly, the Jumper Pak came with the system. THUS, is why it isn't sold in Nintendo Stores (Not that they exist, fuckwad.)

  • god n64 brings back memories

  • Dun like video? Leave.

    His predictions.

  • WTF is everyones problem? Dont like video? FUCK OFF.

  • An RDRAM based mainboard dictates that the spare memory slot must be filled with either an additional memory module, or a terminator. The Jumper Pak serves as the terminator.

The Expansion Pak not only doubled memory, but allowed the memory to operate in a dual channel configuration, which significantly increased bandwidth.

  • The simplest way to put this is taking out the Jumper Pak or Expansion Pak is like taking the RAM out of your PC.

  • Thanks for the vid! really informative, Im thinking on buying an N64 (yes, on 2012... probably wont find new ones) and I guess I will have to buy the expansion pack! :P THX AGAIN!

  • Ok, you didn't get this video quite right but the expansion pak is a 4MB memory expansion, the Jumper pak is a blank cartridge so it just uses the systems built-in memory with it, nothing else, and the N64 uses RDRAM so that's why it didn't work with neither of them, Super Mario 64 will still be the same, no matter if you have an Expansion Pak or Jumper Pak

  • thumbs up if you were hoping the expansion pak wouldn't make any difference to perfect dark

  • its simple......some games require the expansion pack to play them and others dont

  • biggest fucking retard ever

  • If only you did research BEFORE this.

  • The PS1 is still The better console you get bigger game size and a bigger library.

  • @Tokyo64Shinobi Also means more bad games. PS1 ain't better JUST because of bigger game size. Load times are annoying, and N64 NEVER has that.

  • Lol how old are you i mean as far as i know everyone got the jumper pak and had to buy the expansion pak or get it in a game like Donkey Kong 64 and then change becouse the jumper pak is weaker however most games run perfectly on the old jumper pak i myself have a N64 and i only have a regular jumper pak to play my games and some games lag sometimes but it's barely noticeable. Also DK64 was not silly.

  • lol

  • WOW REALLY? NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THE 4 MB MEMORY PACK? THE ORIGINAL IS ONLY 2 MB... EVERYONE WHO HAS PERFECT DARK AND HAS PLAYED THE SINGLE PLAYER CAMPAIGNS KNOWS ABOUT IT DUMBASS

  • its an expansion pack

  • I need to get an expansion pack

  • You didn't get the point anyways nice games ;)

  • i got it out with a fork :)

  • woooow you must be really really bigtime stupid.....what do you think that "alien voodoo" does? well, its the memory dumpass the bigger the memory the higher the graphics jumper pack has less memory than expansion so it cant play all the games

  • @InsaneRofl yea I know that. And there's no need to be a little shithead troll.

  • the difference between that and this makes a huge difference. yea on 2 games

  • on my nintendo 64 having the jumper pak

  • hey dont listen to these people good work!

    keep up the good vids

  • Pretty much what everyone else already said, please do your homework, guy.

  • this is the dumbest person in the world. stop playing games you are a disgrace

  • @coolguygrant77 Don't you have anything better to do? Like F***ing your mom?

  • @FinalFantasyFan12100 dont you have something better to do than post god awful videos

  • @FinalFantasyFan12100

Is that what you do in your spare time, you incestuous phuck?

  • @MethBound Actually no. This video was just an honest mistake w/ false info. When I learn how to take it down I will

  • The jumper pak came with the N64. the paks provide extra ram thats needed to play certain games just like the one for the Sega Saturn. They don't store data. The menu in Perfect Dark was red because of the lack of the extra ram needed to show the rendered backgrounds. I thought that was pretty obvious though...

Also i'm guessing you lost the little grey spoon-ish thing that came with the expansion pak. You use it to get the expansion pak out.

  • My head aches with stupidity

  • hahaha, I apologize for being a dick. I just thought the video was retarded, it felt like I was watching a monkey try to work an N64.

  • LOL this is the dumbest video I have ever seen. You sir are an idiot.

  • @BeezerBarkhouse im aware of the mistakes I've made and I'm planning to take the vid down and make a corrections video so no need to be a dipshit.

  • Comment removed

  • @BeezerBarkhouse

Hey, don't be a jackass. He just didn't know that the black used to be the standard, and the red is an expansion.

Not everyone is an expert, dumbfuck

  • So lets talk positive stuff, perfect dark enjoying it?

  • the jumper pack is the more basic version of the expansion pak which is a bit more expensive yes but more worth it for a better overall experience and ability to cover a lot more games than the jumper . so . thanks i'll keep my expansion pak .. and dear gods ive a rare jumper too. its actually made for the unit ive got O.O yep matching both together with the right components DOES make a HUGE diff .

  • @the1bytch

mmm the jumper pack actually is .. well nothing. The N64 uses Rimm, RDRAm, that needs EVERY memory slot filled. The expansion pack adds 4Mbyte of memory the jumper pack does one thing.. it connects certain wires.. that is all.

A shame really how these choices ended up limiting the N64. See RDRAM is well.. it has a rather high seek time. So it is quick but only once it is doing something.

Yet I like my expansion pack :)

  • @the1bytch

In the end the N64 couldn't really use the extra 4Mbyte memory that efficient dues to the latencies that RDRAM just has higher then lets say DDR. Or whatever cheaper was used.

Yet the pack did offer us some extra content and higher graphics in some games. Nice!

Again I like my expansion pack because it does helps those games. From a technical viewpoint it was daring and.. not as succesfull

  • wow...... you are fucking retarded. the jumper pack came with every N64 up until the ram expander came.

  • @GarthMcCreery yea thanks captain obvious -__-

  • lol that 64 is like "SUCK IT" to the ps2 xD

  • @GormanBrothers anbd btw ive not ONLY got a n64. ive also got gamecube, ps2 and ps3 , reg 1985 basic nintendo ( yes it still works! ) Snes ( yep it still works too XD ) Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advanced . lets just say i cover a pretty wide variety of games and such . so can't say one is better than the other. when theyve both got their faults and benefits.

  • @the1bytch I'm saying how this guys N64 is above the PS2 and stuff :/, and nice collection

  • To my knowledge, the jumper pack is a terminating resistor pack for the memory. Without it, the loop isn't closed and the machine just won't run. This is the only console that I know of that has done this sort of thing. As for games with unskippable content, EVERY videogame developer should know better than to do that. Sadly, I still see modern games that don't allow players to skip intros and cut scenes. Brutal.

  • If you own the original Box and documents to Perfect Dark,it would have shown you the capabilities of playing with and with out the memory expansion. Playing without the Expansion limited the gameplay

  • THe Jumper Pak is exactly what it states, its a jumper that allows the Nintendo 64 to operate. With out it the Nintendo 64 will not operate correctly. The Expansion Slot was used to upgrade RAM. In Japan Nintendo released The Nintendo 64 Disc Drive which required the 4MB Ram Expansion. Due to poor sales in Japan Nintendo only released the 4MB Ram Expansion for the graphic heavy games that required it.

  • This kid really has no idea what he's talking about. I think now I'm going to play some perfect dark though...

  • the jumper pack was the original unit that filled that thing when it was first released in 1996. its basically nothing but a filler to fill that slot. the expansion pack is actually 4mb RDRAM, increasing the n64's RAM from 4mb to 8mb total. thats why some games don't work without the expansion, they require more RAM and were programmed with the idea that the expansion pack would be there. when the expansion pack came out every n64 sold had the expansion pack instead of the jumper pack

  • yo its cause it doesnt hold enough memory for the story

  • WWF!!!

  • alright heres the difference between a JUMPER pak and an EXPANSION pak .

a JUMPER pak is more limited in what it does no matter what version it is as opposed to an Expansion Pak which allows you to do much more and for your system to play much more details than what the jumper pak would allow. Majoras mask is especially one such game that NEEDS the expansion pak and can't run with the jumper. so improved graphics, smoother gameplay, why wouldn't we want the expansion pak if we could have it ?

  • @iljcop you mad bro i had every console on the date of their release ,

  • Holy shit my brain can't handle all the derp.

  • can anyone tell me if all n64 games need a jumper pak or memory expansion to save?

  • He could have saved a lot of people a lot of time, by reading up about the differences between the N64 Jumper Pak (which came with my console when I purchased it), and the N64 Memory Expansion Pak, before making this video. Looks to me like he is a spoilt brat to, to have so many consoles at his age. Probably had everything handed to him on a silver platter to. Get back to school.

  • Comment removed

  • :areyoufuckingkiddingme:

  • @kidjc9 your right

  • Every n64 came with a jumper pak the expansion pack is for more memory

  • Most People Can't Get Jumper Packs These Days Because Jackasses Sell Most N64 Consoles Without One.

  • On a side note... The N64, rocks. I was def in the Nintendo camp in the 90's. "Get N or Get OUT"

  • Also, the Jumper Pack does not make the game play in a "beta" mode, its just the filler for the expansion port, and all N64 systems sold had it in there when u bought the system. You can find lists of games that utilize the full abilities of the Expansion Pack online. With certain older games, like Mario 64, it makes no difference. But Rogue Squadron for example, you can play the game in a higher resolution if you have the Expansion Pack. Check it out man, I'm sure you'll have fun with it.

    .

  • The Jumper Pack was never sold individually, it came with all N64's when you bought them retail, and it came with a special tool to remove it , it never enhanced your game, but it is required to play all games. The Expansion Pack, added RAM memory to the console, essentially increasing the power of the N64. Some high resolution games actually required it. Perfect Dark and Donkey Kong 64 for example, require it, which is why you get a limited experience when all u have is the Jumper Pack

    .

  • I'm hoping to get an N64, but not exactly sure all I need to start playing. I had one when I was maybe 7-8 years old? Memory is totally blank. Obviously the console, games and controllers are needed, but what else? Thanks for your help x

  • youtube.com/watch?v=Jkw7GQn2204

  • perfect dark is my favorite n64 game

  • what a nice room.

my room is no place to put many videogames. so envy you.

unfortunately I actually have no Nintendo 64 ever. this movie as just a trivia for me :)

  • theres a label in mine saying "do not remove". is that the expansion?

  • 0:22 that's what she said

  • @Mega911Gamer lol

  • what a rich guy xD

  • @dazSToNeYclK im not rich.. i just got a lot of Video game stuff lol

  • @FinalFantasyFan12100 lol me too. i have lots of OLD consoles but idk why people call me RICH xD

  • Of course the N64 will not power on with out the RAM expansion pack or Jumper Pack! RAMBUS has to either have a complete set of RAM or be terminated (Jumper Pack).

  • jesus christ i have never seen such a slow poke. you my sir, are an idiot. and you missed out on the best video gaming years that will never be had again

  • he is saying you are 14 becasue your voice broke in the beginning of the video bro. also, there was the jumper pack, default with the system. 4 mb of memory, then the expansion pack, 8mb of memory. herp derp, everyone knows about that jumper pack homie, you are about 48 years late. the systems dont work when theres no pack installed

  • Dude you sound like your trying to prove that Nintendo has an evil mastermind at the helm... Anyone who has ever owned an N64 knows about the expansion pack. the Jumper pack was a RAM cartridge that you could take out and replace with the expansion pack.

  • @KryptikKash The Jumper Pack wasn't a RAM cartridge, it was simply to terminate the empty RAMBUS connections, as the type of RAM the GPU used required it.

  • The jumper pack is the original RAM cartridge that all standard N64 systems came with. That's what most games were designed to run with. Around the end of that system's sales, they released the expansion pack which simply allowed for more data to be loaded at once. Games like Donkey Kong 64 and Majora's Mask required this extra memory because of the enhanced features they utilized. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if certain games that were put out there later had extra features.

  • @JaysonSR

And it is a nice way to ask for an extra 50 quid.

Nintendo loves to milk the cash cow.

  • lets point out the flaws.

1 its not a memory card its a ram expansion pak. ffs

2 it doesnt work without exp. pak because the blody thing completes the circuit

3 jumper pak was released with the system. foolish child.

4 you shouldnt have 23 likes, you should have none

5 no game will work without jumper / exp pak you fuckface.

    oh the flaws are endless.

  • @TheRavingReview you are wrong about one thing broski. it is a memory card. RANDOM ACCESS MEMOERY or ram as you just called it, are in fact memory cards that do store and load data. you cant point out someones flaws and be wrong yourself dude

  • @TheRavingReview

    Calm down, dude.

"no game will work without jumper / exp pak" No game will work without an expansion pak? lol at you.

  • @TheRavingReview Thats because I didn't know what I was saying when I made this video. I've known for months now because of all the F*cking annoying hate mail you guys send me. so yea...

  • i have a pink jumper pack (lol im a boy and i dont realy like pink :3 )

  • good vid though

  • yeah dude jumper pak and super mario 64 came with ur system so you wont see change to that game witht he expansion pak

  • Hey buddy... great video.. Just wondering if you could upload a video of Star Wars: Rogue Squadron with and without the memory upgrade please?? Cheers

  • a Big Idiot Detected!!!!!

  • Is Not "memory Card"..!!!!!

    is: Jumperpack & Expansion Pack

is a extension memory for nintendo 64...

  • the jumper pack came with every n64 to complete the electrical circuit and nothing else without it the n64 wouldnt work the expansion pack witch came with donkeykong 64 or sold by its self also completed the circuit and added 4mb of ram witch allowed you to play donkeykong and majoras mask they were the only games that had to have it perfect dark used it for single player and a few other games used it for higher resolution and its not a memory card as it cant save game data or anything else

  • I ONLY GOT THE JUMPER PACK BECAUSE I GOT THE N64 WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT AND I NEVER SEE THE EXPANSION PACK BEFOR

  • Final Fantasy Fan : The Jumper Pak was the memory used for the game to run with the Jumper pak, the game run with 4 mo of RAM so the Memory Expansion was an Upgrade of the Jumper Pak and make games to run with 8 Mio instead of 4 so in other words, The Single Player can't run because there's not enough RAM to make it run (and on top of that, i think this game was made to release on the 64DD who required the MEP

  • @Luirio

The Jumper Pack had NO RAM at all. There was nothing inside it except a blank PCB, the connection pins, and the traces on the board to complete the electrical circuit.

And Perfect Dark was not designed for the 64DD. By the time Perfect Dark came out, the 64DD was long dead. It was released in Japan for a limited time only to save face.

  • @Draknfyre Arrrg my bad it wasn't Perfect Dark but Banjo Tooie (a system of switch cartridge was supposed to bring Bonus between Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie but because the failure of the 64DD, the accessory never came out of Japan.

  • LOL no your facts are wrong dude, Jumper pak came with every N64 and played most of the games but expansion pak came later so that you could play all of the games (games that needed EP obviously camme with or after it) but well.....you sound young probably around 13, not your fault, everybody makes mistakes :P

  • you shouldent take as long to explain

  • Comment removed

  • @tucker041593

So much wrong with that comment.

You don't "save" anything to the expansion slot. Games that saved with a memory pak saved to the memory pak ON THE CONTROLLER.

Mario 64, along with almost every first-party game, saved to the cart itself.

  • 1. It's not a memory card. It's a memory expansion.

    2. NO game works without either the Jumper Pak or Expansion Pak inserted, It completes an electrical circuit.

    3. Jumper Pak contains no memory, it's simply an electrical connection.

    4. Expansion Pak ONLY came with Donkey Kong 64. Otherwise it was standalone or bundled with a system.

    5. Perfect Dark and Donkey Kong 64 both require the extra RAM. PD lets you play multiplayer which doesn't if you don't have it.

  • @Draknfyre 4 - it also comes with Majora's Mask

  • @eklipsegirl

Not unless you got some special package deal. I got Majora's Mask at launch, and it didn't come with it.

  • you are a retard buddy! Poorly constructed video.. terrible!

  • Comment removed

  • do u need the memory card that goes in the back of the controller?

  • Bought a N64 today thanks for this vid now I know why I can't play perfect Dark single player lol

  • The N64 has 4MB of RAM built into it. The jumper pak is needed to play the system but it really does not do much. The expansion pak adds an extra 4 MB of RAM giving the N64 8MB of RAM.

  • holy crap, i'm almost twice your age, and *I* grew up with the N64.

  • Ummmmm no, the jumper pack has RAM, you can't run a system without RAM

  • No WAY! I bet NO ONE has ever known this before!

  • I swear to god I played donkey kong 64 without the exspansion pak

  • he's a wwf fan :D

  • i got a pack like this but i think i have the standard, where it says "do not remove this pack etc"

  • @andify96 Yes you have the standard pak. If I were you I would get an expansion pak. Many games can not play without an expansion. They are cheap and can be found on ebay.

  • @andify96 yes i know but why does it says that it shall not be removed?

  • @andify96 LOL you sent your comment to yourself. They probably did not want people to fuck with it when it was first released. The N64 needs have have either the Jumper Pak or the Expansion Pak to work. At the time of initial release they were not selling the Jumper Pak on its own. That means if people took out the Jumper Pak and broke it then it would be a big hassle for the consumer to get another one.

  • the jumper pak was never sold seperately, it came with the system. the expansion pak was released later and enhanced some games. donkey kong 64 and majora's mask needed it to work. also, the jumper pak is not a memory card. the jumper pak is only there to terminate the ram. the expansion pak enhanced the memory of the system.

  • @tucker041593 im sorry, it was aroun 67-68 games that supported it not 20. but 2 games still required the E-pack before they would work (Zelda MM, and Donkey Kong 64, so that means even if you had the stock jumper pack installed those 2 games would not work. 2 of thos 60+ games had limited gameplay if you didnt have the E-pack installed and was using the stock jumper pack.

  • i have a jumper pack

  • @tucker041593 The Jumper pack is not a memory card. You dont save anything to it. The majority of N64 games saved directly to the game cart, a few of them would only use a memory card (the memory card goes into the slot on the bottom of the controller. The jumper pack only served one purpose, it connected the system ram to the system (hence the word jumper was used) its just a Ram terminator. The expansion pack added 4mb of system ram. only 20 or more used it, 2 games required it.

  • wait nevermind...

  • what is the difference between the black pak and the red pak ? my n64 has the black pak but it can use full res on top gear overdrive ?

  • @sonicadx I dont think it was the jumper pak but it could be

  • @sonicadx I have the nyko booster pak which which is basically the same thing just when i Looked it didnt have the red top

  • I just noticed it even tells you Perfect Dark has limited options when the expansion pack isn't present. :|

  • If you looked it up on Wikipedia you really should have noticed "It serves no functional purpose other than to terminate the RAMBUS bus in the absence of the Expansion Pak."

  • eh........ dude i dunno about you but most of the n64s came with a jump pack and had to buy the expansion pack separately, the expansion pack its not the regular one (well maybe at least for me) since its the one that increases the ram on the n64 the jumper pack its less powerfull than the expansion pack.

i just tought i tell ya.

  • "i couldnt belive what i just saw its the challanges menu" lol

  • This kid is making the Nintendo 64 sound like some ancient artifact he's just discovered and is trying to figure out. Thanks kid, for making me feel old.

  • To be honest, as a kid I didn't like Perfect Dark, I'd just prefer GoldenEye 007 cause it was before Perfect Dark got released, at least that game didn't have the Expansion Pak problem. But I'm still keeping my Expansion Pak to play DK64 and when I might get Majora's Mask

  • I don't know why this video has so many dislikes. It's not bad.

  • @wightknight121 this video has dislikes because my facts were wrong

  • @FinalFantasyFan12100 fair enough. But you can't always expected to be right.

  • @wightknight121 werdd

  • @BadBoyz4Life3478 Werdd? Learn to spell mate.

  • @wightknight121 Because this is not memory card, is expansion pack.

  • @wightknight121 Because the kid is a f@cken idiot

  • @evilamish im not a kid I'm 14. -__- what reason would you have to call me an idiot anyway? oh right i forgot...NONE

  • @FinalFantasyFan12100 Your a foolish slut.

  • @TheRavingReview Prove it

  • the jumper pak came with everyones n64...it didn't do anything...they didnt sell it in any store...it was just to fill that space in there until they had something like the expansion pak that would take its place...you sound really young so its not your fault ...and yeah the expansion pak gave it twice the memory from 4 to 8 so it allowed perfect dark to be played because the normal amount of memory wasn't enough for that game...that is the only game along with dkc64 that you had to have it

  • @poopedcheetah2 Well im not THAT young. Im only 13 (for now)

  • that black one is well known its in the saytem when it was brandnew

  • final fantasy fan the system will not work if the slot is empty that orignal black card is a ciruit completeer for the system the circuitry becomes disabled for any game you put in

  • people n64 had this by defualt as a jumper its actualy memory of the system but the one that has the red thing ontop has more memory in it

  • What was this. This is really boring. No wonder this video has a 100% dislike. It's REALLY stupid.

  • hey i have a question, ill turn on my n64 and itll play then itll go to black screen or reset on its own. is there a short in a cord somewhere? can you help me?

  • @shawnslide sorry i can't help you. try to buy different wires or a new system. it might be broken but i dont know.

  • what would happen, per say, if your n64 die and it had a memory expansion and all your game data was in there and then you bought a new n64 WITHOUT a memory expansion. if you bought a memery expansion for the NEW one, would all your data from your OLD n64 games still be there??? plz reply

  • @MrZincSaucier Well I'm not really sure. I guess if your N64 dies with your expansion pack in there, Your Data shouldn't die along with your N64. So if you buy a new N64 and put your old N64 Expansion Pak in there It SHOULD have all of your data saved. That's my guess I never experienced this before.

  • The Jumper Pak serves no purpose, other than to tell the system that there is nothing inserted in it's place, allowing the games to still be booted up.

  • The menu's you see in Perfect Dark without the Expansion Pak inserted, are completely normal, and are not caused by the Jumper Pak. The game can still be played without an Expansion Pak, but in order for you to get the full potential of the game, such as campaign, you will need an Expansion Pak.

The reason you see no difference in Mario 64 is simply because there isn't a difference. The game doesn't utilize the Expansion Pak.

  • Do some research before posting a video like this man.

The Nintendo 64 Expansion Pak added four megabytes, totally of 8MB of memory to the system, thus allowing the system to run richer textures, and more expansive environments. It was an upgrade to the system.

Certain games required the Expansion Pak, such as Donkey Kong 64, and Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. Other games required the Expansion Pak for maximum gameplay, such as Perfect Dark.

  • @LordXaero I DID do research and i think 1 comment is enough you dont have to give me a whole history lesson thank you very much ... -__-

  • @FinalFantasyFan12100 Well, you deserve a history lesson for making such a useless, and non informative video, thank you very much. ^__^

  • @LordXaero you dont have to be mean i get it my video is pointless and its crap i apologize I just wanted to post something i guess...

  • @FinalFantasyFan12100 Wasn't trying to be mean, until' I read your response to my comment. I just thought I'd give you some information that you probably didn't know, and you ended up taking offense to it. If somebody did research for me, I'd be greatly appreciative. No hard feelings man.

  • @LordXaero yea k
