  • trippy cover

  • whoever enters the dead sea dies

  • They should've released this as a special single if it was a damn bonus track already ! KUDOS for the upload as I'd never heard it on CD/Mp3 ever....Misery and beauty woven together in the pursuit of solitude as an art form

  • I've not stopped crying since you went away

    You went away

    You went away

  • awesome cover by an excellent band...\m/

  • better than Black Sabbath

  • Don't think any other band in the world could have been more fitting to do a cover of this song.

  • This song drives the soul to a place called Home where no one awaits your return

  • great cover great band, one of the best bands ever.

  • Besser als von Sabbath

  • Oh God. The pain.

  • Love Cathedral and Sabbath. Too bad that Cathedral never had the fame they deserved.

  • Wow, wonderful cover.

  • I love Black Sabbath and this is a great cover!

  • Klasse Cover!

  • "memories I have remind me of you"

  • play this and the orginal at the same time

  • amazing.

  • Good cover!!!

  • This is ok but the Ulver cover of solitude from shadows of the sun album is better.

  • sisi spesak eat your heart out

  • This cover is really great, certainly a beautiful tribute to the original :)

  • Weird I had this tape yet I don't remember this

  • Love how they kept the flute tie ins.

  • sucks

  • Wow, usually covers don't do the orignial justice but in this case well done Cathedral

  • Probably one of my favorite covers ever.

I use this as my 'calming' song.

  • is that ozzy in the background ?

Kind odd but try to listen carefully

  • i am 14, and i hear this song ^^

  • @treidOtreid nobody cares how old are you

  • this song is a very chill song.

  • One of my favorite Sabbath songs, and a great cover of it.

  • My fave cover of my fave song.. Standing Ovation.. oh and 7 people have no brains apparently..

  • keep on rocking in the free world!

  • Great cover. Pantera's version of Planet Caravan was also very good.

  • a drug to my ear and heart

  • I had this album on tape...and this song is even better then original!

  • I had this album on tape...and this song is even better then original!

  • Wow.... Just.... Wow......Beautiful....

  • One of the best sabbath covers of any song out there. that is why i love Cathedral covers.

  • This is simply awesome.

  • Great cover from a great Sabb oriented band.

  • i love this album...classic and awesome

  • I haven't heard this before - it has always held me entranced by BS - this is also great. It's like being a child and having a beautiful dream, it always felt like that to me.

    Great.

  • Good cover!

  • 1996 I met Lee Dorian when Cathedral opened for Trouble at the Mercury Cafe in Denver,CO.

Lee was a very cool, laidback individual. He gave me a copy of the Solitude vinyl record, signed it and answered a few questions concerning Napalm Death. Bloody Chuffed!!!

  • i like the singer, a makes it a little different

  • haunting yet so addictive to listen to agn & agn & agn ...

  • i love this cover, too many memories

  • by far...korifi kai i diaskevi kai to kommati...

  • Did you listened to the Rondellus' version of this song?

  • Maybe the best Black Sabbath cover I ever heard. Not maybe... Even the original record was dark and painful, but it is more.

  • Awesome.

  • beautiful song man i just love it... besides this album fuckin rocks!!! best one of the 3 nativity in black albums :)

  • For some reason I always come back to this song at this time of year (November). Just suits the mood of the weather and lack of natural light really well.

Also remember when this came out - was just before I left home. Me and my childhood mates listened to it endlessly the whole summer before we all went our different ways.

  • 5************

  • This song isn't on the 1994 NIB album...maybe the NIB 2

  • @burningempire666 : Yes, it is, but only in the european version as the last song on the track list (according to wikipedia and discogs.com: the american version doesn't have this song). I had it on cassette in the 90s and it was there.

  • Didn't Candlemass cover this too?

  • @Jackoroth : Don't think so. They have a song called "Solitude", but it has nothing to do with Sabbath's Song.

  • @Jackoroth No they got their own song. It is not the Same

  • @Jackoroth wtf. hahah totally different songs.

  • This Cd was badass when it came out...seems like yesterday. Half those bands aren't even around anymore. rip Pete Steele luv ya bro

  • @lonomac You're right, and I need to go dig it out of the archives. I haven't listened to this in a LONG time.

  • So good ! Doom Folk as only Sabbath could create, and Cathedral could cover !

  • Great kover! ,Sabbath is alive!

  • One of my favourite bands covering one of my favourite songs by my favourite band. Incredible.

  • Truely Amazing

  • rain and this song are why there are so many suicides in seattle

  • Damn this is a great cover, Cathedral were the real deal in their time.

  • The bass player pulls Geezer's part off very well.

  • It's song the best.

  • I love Cathedral, I love Black Sabbath !!!!!

  • The flute in this cover of Solitude sounds Renaissance/Medieval. Cathedral is a damn good band.

  • I feel like crying when I here this song from Black Sabbath and the other Soilitude song from Candlmass both songs are very depressing and true with actual feelings this is music right here music that has meaning and not that emo crap either this is Metal!!!! \m/ ^_^ \m/

  • @666deathghost This isnt metal lol. This is an acoustic track by a metal band. Taken on its own it has none of the features of a metal song.

  • @punkmanjon Well Doom Metal contains acoustics and plenty of it so I got confused a little.

  • @punkmanjon Sabbath actually recorded the way Cathedral did this, but I'm sure you know that already.

  • @uofm97 What do you mean? They both recorded analogue?

  • @punkmanjon Well, yes, Sabbath did and this sounds live and analog too (not sure, so don't quote me as fact), but I was actually referring to the instrumentation and arrangement of this version versus Sabbath's original. It's virtually identical, which is my personal preference as far as covers go. I don't care for artists that add or subtract sections to the song or instruments that weren't in the original when they record covers.

  • @uofm97 Ok. No offence but why did you tell me that? A) I already knew that and B) It has nothing to do with the previous comment I left.

  • @punkmanjon You asked me if they recorded using analog techonlogy.

  • @666deathghost Not actually metal, but definitely depressive and very well executed.

  • awesome song!!!.... great cover... best cover !!!

  • vary cool :)

  • Great version.

  • Awesome. This is one of my favorites songs by Sabbath, and I'm proud how they covered this song.

  • @Ancutzamica1 -What a great feeling give me this song,not lyrically,but musically.

  • This song is just beautiful...

  • so wonderful and so haunting at the same time. i have 2 different cd's with this song on it. Was bummed that the import Nativity in Black didn't have a picture accompanying this song like the other ones got, just a mention as a bonus track.

  • Doom metal masters Cathedral with a gret version of this Sabbath classic. Cathedral were on tour with Sabbath in Europe some time ago...and they gained rave reviews for their excellent doom metal music. Great band... great cover.

  • This whole album is filled with bands doing great Sabbath covers; if you get a chance, get the album!

  • can anyone help me get some accurate bass tabs for this song?

  • @alec12 have the same problem, well its a cover so of course its harder to find. The bass is a 100 times better then In the original tho.

  • Cathedral fucking rule, brilliant cover, and shows the guy can really sing

  • The first time I heard this song was in 1996. A friend had just bought the Nativity In Black CD. He was a fan of fantasy artwork (as I am) and had a few DragonLance and Dungoens And Dragons calenders laying around, with awesome artwork for each month. There was one in particular that had attractive handmaidens outside an old medievil cottage in the woods. Now, whenever I hear this song, I think of the woods and cottages, like from a fairytale.

  • Come watch my video SYMPHONY GUITAR RIFFS. Its got tons of classic guitar hooks from the likes of Led Zeppelin, Nirvana and Pantera all played back to back to create a rockin' extravaganza!!!-_-!!!

  • Sounds a bit like Jethro Tull with the flute.

  • Virtually the only track on that album that does some justice to the original

  • Lee has such a beautiful voice in this song...

  • holy shit... i never knew there was a bonus track on this disc...

    this is great!

I will assume there was a second release for this CD?

  • LOL! hehe... All mysteries reveal themselves in time! :)

  • its a nice song

  • Perfect...it made me CRY.

  • i love this it sound like depressing doom

  • i remember that this cd was new

    god im old

    but fuck it

  • Yeah, it was released in 1994. That was like, 100 years ago. Dude, you are soooo old and wise...lol.....

  • your comment just saved my day, thank you!

  • @abaday9 Don't worry dude, I had bought it on a tape...great album

  • @abaday9 - I was thinking the same thing.

  • @abaday9 I remember buying the original sabbath tracks on vinyl, now that makes me feel old when you consider that was in the days before cds. lol

  • @abaday9

never too old to fuckin rock!

  • @Rammsteiner92 i am 14 XD

  • the flute is awesome in this song

  • Love it!

  • Trevmeister got it right... And Simple is sometimes the best style....

  • One of the best ..if not the best Black Sabbath Cover Albums of All Time.

  • ... WOW!

  • This song, along with "Planet Caravan" from Paranoid always make me think of hiking in the desert. I love the desert too, so its a perfect mix.

  • this precious song is a paradaise lost

  • Beautiful cover.

  • nice cover so fucking relaxed and sad

  • it reminds me of good days

  • THIS SONG ALONE is worth the purchase of the ENTIRE CD....FANTASTIC ! Cathedral picked the right song for it.

  • This is a very true to form version, I commend Cathedral for not blasphemizing this song

  • This is one of the best BS covers ever. I used to think cathedral had become a Sabbath rip off in the mid nineties, but it's more like an extension.

  • Comment removed

  • Not many coverversions are that good....this is one of my Favorits....fine work..thx for posting

  • I love this one and CoC's covers, they are beyond excelent!

  • wha´s up man and wath do you say abuot white sombie, slayer and megadeth you suck stupid boy

  • White Zombie's cover of Children of the Grave would be tolerable if they didn't put those stupid Manson sound clips in there. Slayer and Megadeth could've covered something else. Pantera's cover was the only one done right.

  • Ah hell no... not even a mention of System? Poor lost soul...

  • Oh, you're talking about mallcore shit. Don't fucking call Korn metal, because they are not! SOAD are overrated mainstream "metal" shit, just like Shitknot, Dragonfarce, Lame of God, Avenged Sevenfold, etc. that have effectively stolen all of the credibility off of the name of "heavy metal".

    That and nu-metal and metalcore.

I blame the decline of metal on three bands: Slayer, Metallica, and Pantera.

  • I said metal, not heavy metal. There's no denying those bands are metal. And you blaming the decline of metal on Slayer, Metallica, and Pantera pretty much means you don't know crap about the rise. Keep enjoying the music...

  • Oh, and when did the terms "metal" and "heavy metal" become seperate? It's called nu-metal and it sucks ass! And the rise of what? Mallcore?!? Give me a break! All Slayer, Metallica, and Pantera did was dumb down their fucking music so that even the most delusional asshead could get into them. They were great in the 80's, but something about their songs changed starting in the early 90's and that's what spawned "metalcore" in the early 21st century. Real heavy metal is mostly dead.

  • thank you, man.

  • Legion, listen to Kyuss, Electric Wizard, and Eggnogg.

  • Pantera rips SOADs nuts off. there is no questioning if a Pantera CD is good, it will ALWAYS be good

  • spot on, tera own soad

  • who the fuck thumbs down's shit like this?? i HATE seein a smart mother fucker get a bad rap!!

  • What do you mean you blame the decline of metal on those bands, how so?

  • Slayer and Metallica revolutionized metal in the 80s by combining it with punk and metal to make thrash. you have to be musically retarded not to know that. as for Pantera, they brought metal back in the 90's after grunge hit the scene. and as for dumbed down, listen to Phil's lyrics, listen to Vinnie's drumming, listen to Dime's guitar especially. yes, he did some of the simplist things you could do, yet it fit perfectly for Pantera's style. The only thing i agree with is dragonforce sucking

  • In 1981 a band known as Venom released an album that invented thrash metal, Slayer and Metallica merely followed the style.

  • @Zzwydx ....the created wat would become black metal .....Slayer and Metallica were just inspired by them like they were with sabbath .every one knows the first thrash/speed metal song was created by accept

  • what the hell, your in the wrong place

  • @legionofdoom2009 Yea I don't know what anyone said to make you bash System, but trust me they're not. They were one of the few original bands out there focusing on making their music something of their own design. They combined the sounds of all their influences to bring something new to music and I'm sorry that some annoying fans may make you think they're overrated but trust me: they're not.

  • @yarlzxmyrsh yeah they tried to make something good and special, well guess what, they failed!

  • @SneakyOstrich Well they obviously failed to win you over so I guess they did. However to me and a shit load of other people out there they didn't but I respect that you don't like them. We all have different tastes.

  • @yarlzxmyrsh hehe

  • @legionofdoom2009 all but serj, serj is cool

  • @legionofdoom2009 SOAD is great, Black Sabbath even much better... But you don't have mix the things, if you don't like SOAD then don't talk bullshit about them, don't be stupid...

  • @legionofdoom2009 ...and butter is yellow.

What do either of these things have to do with this song?

  • @Arg0n1t3 System suck. Hugely. What are you, 17?

  • You'll have your preferences and I'll have mine. I tend to lean towards bands with a lyrical emphasis; keeps my brain in tact. Can't stand where metal is going. It's like lyrics don't matter anymore... And no, I'm not 17. With a name like stabyourcat you probably ain't knockin on heaven's door yourself...

  • @Arg0n1t3 SOAD write quirky pop metal songs aimed at a younger audience. Their music and melodies and are elementary at best.

  • Just because you can't understand the depth of their lyrics doesn't mean they're elementary. Oh, and to clear things up, I'm talking about the song Serj writes. Daron does write poppy songs that are fun for the first few listens and then you have to throw them away...

  • beatiful cover song!!

  • Beautiful. I'm a huge Sabbath fan, this is a fitting tribute. I don't want to sound melodramatic, but....... I would like to have this song played at my funeral by musicians, while my corpse is burned to ash and dust in a huge pyre. Preferably on the shore of a tranquil lake, with a forest surrounding it. In mid-October, at dusk.

  • My wife and I love this cover. One day we heard this many crazy things ... kkkk. very good! Greetings from Brazil

  • Excellent cover but you couldnt expent something less from a band like Cathedral.. Those gyus really worship the Sabs..

  • Nice, but I prefer the Ulver covered version.

  • I compared Ulver's version with this cover. I think Cathedral catches the intention and the mood of the original song better than Ulver's cover does.

  • damn i fucking love these song.

  • Comment removed

  • gets better with every listen!,,

  • And they say metal world cannot produce ballads. Such a peaceful and calming song, what do you know?...

  • who says that?

  • what the fuck??? this is amazing! i've never even heard of this band.

i need to check them out.

  • the best tribute to black sabbath
