The 168lb div was weak when JC was champ but in the last 30 yrs there were maybe a dozen guys at 160 -168lbs that would have beaten him.

Calzaghe never even came close to being considered for such an award. Roy earned it because he was simply the best and his quality of opponents far exceeded anyone Calzaghe ever fought. Look at their records, it's fairly simple to understand. I'm not a fanboy, both fighters will go down as legends of the sport, but Jones is next echelon.

JC was a reasonably good champ at best. and by no means was he a great. He had some major weaknesses but he made the most of his strengths and at the end of the day you can only beat the guy that's put in front of you - and JC did that.
Yes RJ was well past his best and on his way down he didn't just decline he disintegrated. But RJ took the fight so if anyone is to blame for unjustifiably bolstering JC's legacy or diminishing RJs- it's Jones himself.

1. JC was the world champ in only one weight division and wasn't even the undisputed champ.
2. Rather than face the IBF's undefeated mandatory challenger for the title in 2007, JC gave up the belt for an easy fight with the mediocre Manfredo Jr.
3. JC never attempted to unify the 168lb division by taking on a very good champion in Bute.
