@CalJennings Long story short; the Warners weren't happy with the $400 million this made at the box office, plus DVD / HD DVD / Bluray sales, plus merchandise. So instead of letting Singer do a sequel that would've had action out the ying yang like he wanted to do, they decided to reboot the ENTIRE franchise. AGAIN. As if the 15 years of development hell it took for Superman Returns to come out wasn't enough.
@CalJennings I've heard they're planning on a new Superman movie, but it's a reboot not a continuation from Superman Returns. Worse, it sounds like they're going to bring back cheezy elements from the first motion picture.
I always saw Clark Kent/Superman as the everyday hero that exists in each one of us, a pure manifestation on every level of "our capacity for good." He doesn't drink or smoke, he never lies, even his physique and movie star appearance reflect the impeccable character within. I think the notion of Superman stirs and touches a longing inside a lot of us, and that is why trailers like this give chills. Great, great stuff :)
I think the movie was good. It introduced some plot lines that need to be further developed. It also portrays what would likely happen if Superman lived in this day and age.
If and when they make the next Superman...they need to have him fight! Seriously nobody was smashed through walls or nothing it was almost no contest for him.
It's a super hero movie! This isn't the passion of the christ where the main character isn't expected to fight. Superman, even in the comic strips and tv shows, has always been percieved as such. He respectfully asks them to leave and when they don't, he beats some ass! That's the superman I want to see again.
Fights are an insignificant, but sometimes necessary, part of Superman's life. He works on many levels trying to make the world a better place. It's not all about beating someone's ass.
I don't have time to listen to the whole CD right now to find out. I'm working with a bunch of different musicians right now and having to listen to their tracks. If I can remember to get around to it, I'll see if I can find out which track they used.
Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster (the creators) say that any references to their Jewish heritage (like Moses) were unintentional. I think they were intentional, but more in a subconscious way than a deliberate way.
As far as the Christian metaphors, they're definitely present in "Superman Returns". But Singer is Jewish as well, so I doubt he was trying to make a "Christian film" but instead was just drawing parallels that he felt would be powerful and symbolic.
Believe it or not, some Jewish people actually understand the love and peace that Christ tried to teach. It sounds to me as if you are being a bit of a generalist in your judgment. Just because a person is black doesn't mean they can sing or play basketball.
No, I understand that and was not being a generalist. I'm sorry if you mistook my wording as such. All I was saying is that I think Bryan Singer is of the Jewish faith, meaning he doesn't believe in Christ as literally the "son of God".
But then I said he was probably drawing parallels to Christ because he felt it would be powerful and symbolic, meaning that he understands the love and peace that Christ represents, even if he doesn't believe in Christ as the son of God.
I'm sorry if you are offended. Actually, im not sorry. Im a racist. did you not see my page? I hate black welfare fucks, or any black scum of the earth of that matter. Sorry you came across me. Actually, im not.
I pity you. You just don't have your eyes open enough to see the truth. People who hate, whether black, white, or whatever other race are people. There are bad in all races, but there is just as much good in all races as well.
Thanks for posting this particular Superman Returns trailer. I first saw it in front of the Kitson store on Robertson Boulevard in West Hollywood. I saw the movie and loved it. When is the next one coming out? Hey Brian Singer.... direct another one!
I thought this movie was....okay. Not incredible, like I hoped it would be, but okay.
Anyway, Superman is NOT a representation of Christ. He was drawn up by two Jews, both children of parents who ran away from Europe to escape Hitler. He is a representation of the immigrants who came to America. I mean, he IS an immigrant.
That was after the 1980's revamp of his story. Superman had a lot of his powers taken away, Lex Luthor became a business man, Etc, Etc. Anyway, he was revamped by DC, not the original creators of Superman. DC named him a Methodist to clean him up.
The original author(s) always has the final say in what their work represents.
i think he is a representation of the Christ, but more the second coming The Christ was a Jew.But he wasn't religious, not compared to people of his day.The "el " in Michael means from God, thats why they named him " Kal-el ".He should be British, only Britain stood alone against Hitler in the Battle of Britain not America.
Superman and his connection with the sun... more related to some pagan stories than Jesus... Too bad this video is copyrighted and the person whom posted it can't make his own material, instead he goes around making negative comments on everyone else's
I just learned about a pagan alternative to the Christ image near Christmas. The Christian music store received information from the Superman Returns film company telling about the relationship between this Superman and Christ. Also, Superman was written as a Methodist in the comic books.
Not everyone has the resources to start making their own videos right away. I have made several of my own videos. As far as negative comments, I have made very few. To what are you referring?
superman as a representation of christ might work, except for the part where superman depends on the sun for energy, ..in the christian paradigm Jesus is seen as the source of all life. So I would say its a little different from that standpoint....but the parallels otherwise is undeniable
i love superman, ..and this last release was not bad, ..i loved especially the parts where this dialogue was happening between superman and his Father. Great.
Good trailer shitty movie though

so what if the new superman movies come from Smallville? I think it'd be pretty awesome considering they're ending the show this year.
LOTRlover100 10 months ago
@LOTRlover100 Considering how horribly, HORRIBLY lackluster the finale was, doing anything to continue Smallville's continuity would be a mistake.

@CdrChaos I totally agree. I take it back--I said that before I actually saw the finale--which sucked btw.
