An interesting translation point... in the French version, Q ends his verse with "O, Lucifer let me just once run my fingers through Esmeralda's hair," Frollo sings about opening the door to her garden, and Phoebus about plucking the flower of her love. In the Russian version all three end with "I'd sell my soul to the devil for a night with you." In the French version, Q's desire seems a lot more innocent than the others'!

That's what I thought. I like the French lyrics more because they describe the more innocent kind of love (even though they sing about looking under her dress at some point O_O) but I totally can't imagine, Quasimodo wanting to spend a night with Esmeralda, as opposed to just being noticed by her -- ie have a simple chance to stroke her hair. The beauty of the French lyrics is in their simplicity, I think that Russians tried to be overly poetic, translating this song, which wasn't necessary

I think Petckun makes a great Quasimodo and is both hot and horrible at the same time. Golubev has a great voice but simply looks too young and childish to play Frollo. And I think Mackarskiy is one of the best Phoebuses I've seen.

Madonna is I think Italian for what in French is called la Notre Dame - Our Holy Mother Mary. Except the use of the italian word for it is very common in Russian literature.

This was a good version of "Belle", but I still think the French is better. I find nothing wrong with the voices or acting; in fact, I think that Quasimodo's voice here is far better than in the French version. It's just the fact that it's in Russian. While I like Russian music, and the language itself, a song like "Belle" sounds better in French, the language of love.

I don't like the russian version, i understand both russian and french, and those russians singers are nothing compared to the french ones in the musical, and Esmeralda doesn't look like Esmeralda at all but Helene Segara is perfect .

I'm Russian, myself and i dont wanna sound biased but i feel that this version is a lot more emotional than the french. I can speak fluent french, and i find the russian lyrics more touching, especially the part "v raba muschinu prevrashayet krasata" which means "beauty turns a man into a slave"... and Quasimodo sings more about himself and how his horrific appearance is a cross he has to bear... so I must say I like the russian version more
